Istanbul Basaksehir vs Gaziantep

The Turkish Super Lig action is drawn out over four days this weekend and the action comes to a conclusion on Monday afternoon when Istanbul Basaksehir face Gaziantep in a 5pm GMT kick-off at the Fatih Terim Stadium in Istanbul. The home side are looking to extend their lead at the top of the table as the away side are simply looking to consolidate their position in the middle of the table.

Istanbul Basaksehir are leading the pack right now but it's tight at the top. Manager Okan Buruk's side are 1 point clear of second placed Trabzonspor who have a game in hand. A victory here would crank up the pressure on the second placed side who would need something in both of their games in hand to keep up with Istanbul Basaksehir. The league leaders come into this game having only lost 1 of their 12 league games at home this season. That solitary defeat was their first home match of the season too. It's now 4 league games undefeated and 4 home wins on the bounce.

Gaziantep have the luxurious, yet not exactly inspiring, situation of neither being a threat to the European qualification spots or being troubled by relegation. Manager Marius Sumudica's men are in 9th place and 14 points off European contention and 11 points clear of the drop. That could all change with a run of bad or decent results. You get the feeling they're more likely than not already preparing for next season. Their away record is bang average at best with just 3 wins from their 11 away league games. No win in their last 3 league games will surely be playing on their minds.

This game weighs heavily in favour of the table-toppers and for good reason. Istanbul Basaksehir are a tough side to beat on their own patch and they're finding their form again. Gaziantep don't really have anything to play for realistically and that could be a problem. I think the home side could win this game by 2-3 goals if they score early but I'm not entirely confident they can keep a clean sheet.
