gogetta
Chapecoense vs Gremio Home-side tends to be more defensive at home but still has key defensive absences for this match. Left-back Dener has a thigh injury and will be out for 2-3 weeks. Right-back Claudio winck just returned to training this week. And central midfield anchor Gil is yet to return to the team. Coach Guto Ferreira could therefore opt for a more defensive posture to cover for these key absences. In contrast, following the shock ejection of the Brazilian national team out of the Copa Centenario in USA, Gremio has got back goal-keeper Marcelo Grohe and midfield anchor Wallace. New striker Negueba will start on the bench. Overall, Gremio's defensive side will be reinforced after the recent weakening that resulted in conceding goals, especially away from home. And the offensive side now has options. This could give the team momentum to push forward more against the defensively vulnerable hosts. And Gremio may seize the opportunity for three points to move up from the third position. Away win and Under 2.5 goals. Santa Cruz vs Figuerense Hosts come into this match on the back of three straight defeats and, particularly, suffering from a lack of goals. But Coach Milton Mendes now seeks a reaction from his team and gets back important striker Graffite, who will galvanize the offensive side. Meanwhile the visitors' Coach Vinicius Eutropio has opted to rotate three players and also misses key striker Rafael Moura due to a thigh injury. Home win. Frankly, I have no favourite team but I got hooked on to the technical quality of the players, coaches and their various leagues. Am particularly enthralled by the quality of the Serie B, and I was surprised when Corinthians (after losing their coach Tite to the national side recently) short-listed Fernando Diniz of Serie B side Oeste as a possible replacement, though the latter withdrew and opted to continue his project at Oeste. Meanwhile Serie A side Chapecoense recently lost their coach Guto Fereira, who opted to join Serie B side Bahia!
gogetta
Corinthians vs Figuerense Hosts come from a 1-1 derby draw at home against Sao Paulo, for which the host team was booed off by their fans and Coach Cristovao Borges criticized for his "dubious" substitutions during the game. Fans are concerned that despite being second on the table, the squad is lacking another defender, a right-winger and a natural goal-scorer - yet the transfer window closed on 20 July without any reinforcements. Figuerense's new coach Argel Fucks will be commanding his second Serie A game, after the recent exit of Vinicius Eutropio. His mission is to ensure the team's survival in Serie A. Left-back Marquinhos is suspended, while the coach has also opted for two other technical changes in mid-field. Team travelled to Sao Paulo with hope because of their previous head-to-head performances away to Corinthians ie 4 wins. Coach Fucks prepared for the game with sessions on set-pieces and attacks. Moura and Rafael Silva will form the double attack while the squad also includes two other striking options - newly-hired Maurides and Ewerton Santos. Home team faces some attacking anxiety, awaiting Alexandre Pato to attain the necessary physical conditioning before he starts. Nevertheless, the team is under pressure for a reaction and need a win of three-goal difference to return to the top of the table. But the visitors have the psychological head-to-head edge and plan to attack. BTTS and Over 2.5 goals.

Our form teacher in high school used to bring in videos of the classic Brazil teams when we were meant to be doing PSE. He'd just sit down and show them to us whilst telling those not interested to just talk amongst themselves! One of the videos he brought in was The Boys from Brazil video you mention! Funny that! gogetta
Figueirense vs Vitoria After an impressive performance away against Corinthians (1-1), Figueirense then had a disastrous mid-week 5-0 defeat away to Ponte Preta in the Brazil Cup. The team conceded early and never recovered. They have had a tense week with added pressure on their already difficult situation; in 18th position (17 points) and without a win in seven rounds (5 draws and 2 losses). Coach Argel Fucks has mainly focused on correcting defensive mistakes as well as finishing. Thus the team is seeking a reaction, for a win at home to gain some breathing space in their battle against relegation. Left-back Pedroso is out injured but important attacking midfielder Carlos Alberto returns from injury. Vitoria comes from a 2-3 home loss to Santos and is also seeking a recovery against a direct rival (two-points difference). Coach Vagner Mancini has emphasized plugging the weaknesses in the defensive system and to create balance in the team's play. Goal-keeper Fernando Michel returns from injury after missing six games. Striker Marino also returns from suspension, to replace the suspended Dagoberto. Both teams seek to win in a relegation scrap, but greater pressure and motivation lies with the hosts. While the hosts have recently shown that they can correct their defensive errors, the same cannot be said of the visitors who have a more systemic problem that stems from a lack of quality in the central midfield (marking) - the visitors' strength lies in employing fast attacks especially via the wings. Home win.

gogetta
Sport Recife vs Flamengo Hosts started the season badly largely due to the quality of the cast which, though experienced, is particularly lacking in depth. The subsequent arrival of Coach Oswaldo de Oliveira saw the evolution of a more compact team and a sequence of five unbeaten games (3 wins and 2 draws), in the lead up to this particular contest. Before an expected full house in the Arena Pernambucano, hosts expect to use home advantage to get a result to improve on their 12th position. But Coach Oswaldo is missing important central midfielder Serginho who usually protects the back four and, in the run-up to this match, the coach's uncharacteristic delay in deciding the replacement indicates a lack of good options. Moreover the expected lift from the return from suspension of key attacking midfielder Diego Souza (responsible for team's offensive plays ie creating chances and scorer of 9 goals so far); was thrown into doubt when the player was a no-show at the team's final training session on Friday. The club claimed the player was simply being conserved due to physical weariness but worried fans pointed out that this explanation was not convincing since he had not played the previous round due to suspension! The visitors, Flamengo, are on a six-match unbeaten run (4 wins and 2 draws) and two points from the table lead. A win will propel them to the top spot, while the other top rivals are facing each other in this round. The key difference this season is that Flamengo has a rich bench compared to previous years. Coach Ze Ricardo has crafted a defensively compact, cohesive and increasingly consistent team. The only recent problem has been the absence of left-back Jorge with a left knee injury and has so far missed four rounds; which has made the left side unbalanced (and could be exploited by the hosts whose strength is swift wing-play with Everton Felipe on the left and Gabriel Xavier on the right). But the visitors have been splendid in away games this season and have not lost at Arena Pernambucano in recent seasons (two wins and two draws). Both teams have momentum but the main difference is squad quality and depth. The visitors will simply seek a result in this round, while the hosts are more likely to adopt a defensive posture and try to play on the counter. Away win. StevieDay1983
Odds provided by bet365. What are you thinking for this set of games lads? @gogetta, any matches taking your fancy? I always love a cheeky bet on Gremio. They've been my Brazilian team ever since a romantic foray with them back on an old football management game when they had Ronaldinho playing for them. For these matches, and for brave punters my tips are: Fluminense - Figuerirense - 1 Botafago - Gremio - 2 Atletico Minerio - Vitoria - 1 Cortibia - Gremio - 2 Palmeiras - Sao Paulo - 1 America MG - Cruzeiro - 2 What you think, about my prediction? I had not looked at the Serie A fixtures earlier bse of the international break. My initial thoughts - away wins against teams fighting relegation (Coritiba, America MG) are potential banana skins at this stage of the championship. Moreover, for me, Gremio's away form this term has not been convincing. Botafogo has improved of recent, so I think it will not be a push-over at home. Figueirense is another relegation battler and has recently sprung an away surprise against Santos. All in all, its a tricky phase but perhaps a clearer picture can emerge later as the majority of the games are still a week away.
