London have come on strong, and at the end of the day there's no reason in terms of the bid why they shouldn't pick London. The only 2 factors that give me hope are: 1) Public support was clearly much greater in Paris. 2) Paris lost out last time when they were supposedly a strong bid - they prob won't go for it a 3rd time, but London can go again. I actually fancied London initially on my analysis earlier, but has the odds on some of the others lengthened the only loser on my book is a London win:o I took 30's on Madrid, and 100 on NYC earlier today, and as Paris's odds have been drifting today I've been trousering odds between 1.42 and 1.48. That could see them getting a decent first round vote, and if that happens they might build a bit of momentum. Doubt they'll win, but interesting anyway. Chirac is a prat clearly, but not sure how much that will influence the end result. Madrid seem to have their supporters in the market the last few days. When all is said and done though, I still don't see Paris losing this. Football, F1 (Button) and Tennis, both Murray and Henman. The brits are the big betters and like backing home soil. People just getting excited and caught up in the moment. Quite how so many people have decided to dabble on London to win is beyond me as this, to me, is quite simply nothing more than a storm in a teacup with the usual media frenzy and eager anticipation of millions generating all the unnecessary and unwarranted hype for the event. I've seen nothing to believe Paris have lost the edge they'd been having for the best part of a year overnight and the way the UK-based sportsbooks have been reacting have simply been a case of another of those having one patriotic bet too many(as with those mugs who lump on Henman to win Wimbledon every year) - Paris at 1.50(Betfair) is simply massive considering they were trading in the 1.20's for the last few months. Call it what you like, in addition to what's already been mentioned in a post earlier, it's probably fair to say the IOC does have a knack of giving preferential treatment to a city that had previously lost out on a bid as was the case with Beijing in 2000(that remains the biggest scandal in the history of IOC voting as far as I'm concerned), who were eventually given the 2008 games. Obviously, I'm by no means saying Paris have become a bigger favourite than they had been for the last few months, but they have certainly not had their chances reduced in any way either(as the odds drifting will have you believe) - hence, double the value in the current price for Paris to win the bid IMO. The local media had just interviewed an Indian IOC voter who was honest enough to admit "most of us already know what to do and have more or less made up our minds". Having had all the necessary media coverage at my disposal(it's certainly not as politically tainted as those from the countries in the running for the games itself), I remain as convinced as I had been for the best part of a year that Paris still remains the frontrunner to win the games(pretty much for most of the reasons already mentioned in earlier posts - all bar the one about the French having better looking birds :lol ). Paris is trying for the third time, if they don't get it this time, they'll chuck it. Those 2 previous failures must have taught them a lot of lessons about what goes on at these meetings. This is the final chance and I think could sway many judges. Apparently no passion in the video, more of a tourist vid.
