Re: 2012 Olymic bid Lunchtime update Paris 1.48 London 3.7 Madrid 23 New York 95 Moscow 120 Madrid now stabilised at the 20 mark, but some decent money coming in for London now driving down the price. NY and Moscow really gone out in the odds. Paris still drifting towards 1.50....... Is 1.50 the buy marker? Do you think the IOC delegates will be swayed by the appearance of Blair, Erikkson, Beckham et al?

Re: 2012 Olymic bid I put a lot on Paris the other day, but as soon as I did I got this sickening feeling. London have come on strong, and at the end of the day there's no reason in terms of the bid why they shouldn't pick London. The only 2 factors that give me hope are: 1) Public support was clearly much greater in Paris. 2) Paris lost out last time when they were supposedly a strong bid - they prob won't go for it a 3rd time, but London can go again. So, generally it would be a travesty if London do get it, and not just for my pocket!

Re: 2012 Olymic bid I've just screwed up my book on this. I actually fancied London initially on my analysis earlier, but has the odds on some of the others lengthened the only loser on my book is a London win:o I took 30's on Madrid, and 100 on NYC earlier today, and as Paris's odds have been drifting today I've been trousering odds between 1.42 and 1.48. If Moscow win I'm in deep trouble:loon

If Moscow win I'm in deep trouble:loon
Don't want to worry you Matty but :lol they were saying on the radio that Moscow has a chance because of the fact that the IOC won't want to embarrass any bid in the 1st round. That could see them getting a decent first round vote, and if that happens they might build a bit of momentum. Doubt they'll win, but interesting anyway.

Re: 2012 Olymic bid Paris 1.51 now, what's going on? :loon I know this still indicates about a 66% chance of success, but they've been matched as low as 1.09 (92%). Chirac is a prat clearly, but not sure how much that will influence the end result. Madrid seem to have their supporters in the market the last few days. When all is said and done though, I still don't see Paris losing this. I could be wrong, and feel free to laugh at me if I am, but everything for me still points to them :ok

Re: 2012 Olymic bid I personally reckon this is the old case of the English will win. Happens in every sport we do. Football, F1 (Button) and Tennis, both Murray and Henman. The brits are the big betters and like backing home soil. People just getting excited and caught up in the moment. One winner: Paris

Re: 2012 Olymic bid Personally, I'm on Paris to win the bid. Quite how so many people have decided to dabble on London to win is beyond me as this, to me, is quite simply nothing more than a storm in a teacup with the usual media frenzy and eager anticipation of millions generating all the unnecessary and unwarranted hype for the event. I've seen nothing to believe Paris have lost the edge they'd been having for the best part of a year overnight and the way the UK-based sportsbooks have been reacting have simply been a case of another of those having one patriotic bet too many(as with those mugs who lump on Henman to win Wimbledon every year) - Paris at 1.50(Betfair) is simply massive considering they were trading in the 1.20's for the last few months. Call it what you like, in addition to what's already been mentioned in a post earlier, it's probably fair to say the IOC does have a knack of giving preferential treatment to a city that had previously lost out on a bid as was the case with Beijing in 2000(that remains the biggest scandal in the history of IOC voting as far as I'm concerned), who were eventually given the 2008 games. Obviously, I'm by no means saying Paris have become a bigger favourite than they had been for the last few months, but they have certainly not had their chances reduced in any way either(as the odds drifting will have you believe) - hence, double the value in the current price for Paris to win the bid IMO. The local media had just interviewed an Indian IOC voter who was honest enough to admit "most of us already know what to do and have more or less made up our minds". Having had all the necessary media coverage at my disposal(it's certainly not as politically tainted as those from the countries in the running for the games itself), I remain as convinced as I had been for the best part of a year that Paris still remains the frontrunner to win the games(pretty much for most of the reasons already mentioned in earlier posts - all bar the one about the French having better looking birds :lol ). Re: 2012 Olymic bid Interesting stuff Fools. Madrid still 21 on Betfair? I found this a second ago. Now the IOC loves cities that make a number of bids. This indicates to me that Paris are going to get it. This is their 3rd successive bid, whereas Madrid, London and NYC have not bid before. Rogge Advises 2012 Bid City Losers To Try Again Posted 2:03 pm ET (GamesBids.com) International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge had a message Tuesday for the four cities who lose the host city vote for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games – try again for 2016. During the official opening of the 117th IOC session Tuesday night in Singapore Rogge said, “in view of their assets and qualities, we would, of course, be very pleased to see at future elections the cities not chosen now. They should know that the quality of their candidature file would give them an excellent chance”. He said the losing cities would be “deeply disappointed, but they should know that a candidature, even if not selected, leaves a tangible legacy”. He rated all the five bid cities as “prestigious” saying that they are “all perfectly capable of organizing Games of the highest quality”. Rogge also spoke of his desire to keep the size and costs of the Games under control. “The Olympic Games are today still perfectly manageable but cannot be allowed to grow”. The IOC is to vote Friday on whether to drop any of the 28 sports on the Olympic program. If any are voted out, the IOC will consider adding from a waiting list of five hopefuls – rugby, golf, squash, karate and roller sports.

Re: 2012 Olymic bid You're right Matty, the IOC loves a trier. Bejing had a couple of goes, Athens had 2 or 3 goes. Paris is trying for the third time, if they don't get it this time, they'll chuck it. Those 2 previous failures must have taught them a lot of lessons about what goes on at these meetings. This must help them.. We'll know in 5.5 hours tbw, I took Paris @ 1.43

Re: 2012 Olymic bid Just watching BBC coverage and presenter said that IOC members had expressed that they were unimpressed by the Paris video. This is the final chance and I think could sway many judges. Apparently no passion in the video, more of a tourist vid. I've back London at 2/1

Re: 2012 Olymic bid I'd not worry about it, what we are seeing is the folks in the UK seeing an optomistic slant on the London bid on TV and radio this morning. Mug punters piling in. Nothing has changed, Paris should be nailed on. Time to hold the faith. if anything I might think about a saver on madrid if I can get anything above 20

Re: 2012 Olymic bid Moscow and NY eliminated. Madrid out to 1000 on Betfair so they must be eliminated now too. Paris 1.36 London 3.55. Too close to call. Looks like the Madrid backers will decide it - think they'll side with their neighbours on this one. My betting account is preying on it
