Scoop6 – Saturday July 11th This weeks Tote Scoop6 is split between Newmarket and York with the highlight being the Group 1 July Cup at 3.45. No winner’s last week means the Win fund starts at £140,677 for what looks like one of trickiest weeks for sometime. Leg 1: 2.00 Newmarket The first leg this week is a Class 2 handicap over a mile. It was won last year by Godolphin and this time round they are represented by Good Contact. He reverts to a mile after disappointing at Chester last time when a heavily backed favourite. His mark of 95 looks fair enough and I expect a much better run here. Pat Smullen is an eye-catching booking for Western Reserve and he could have more to offer after a decent second last time at Sandown while Oracolo is on a hat-trick after two wins at Doncaster and has to be respected in an open race. Selection: Good Contact 10/1 Skybet (Western Reserve) Leg 2: 2.20 York A Listed handicap over 1m6f here and a strong renewal on our hands. The Southern raiders look to be well represented and Amanda Perrett saddles one of the favourites with Asteronereus who beat the useful Quest For More at Newmarket and was third at Ascot last time out. He goes over this trip for the first time and should go close. Famous Kid was 6th at Ascot after being hampered and he will fancy his chances of reversing that form here. Of the others Montaly ran well at Epsom last time and Lycidas remains a consistent sort. Selection: Asteronereus 11/2 William Hill (Famous Kid) Leg 3: 2.55 York A Listed 5f sprint with no less than five C/D winners in the field and eight horses who have won already this season. The highest rated runner is the 3yo Cotai Glory, he won the Molecomb at Goodwood but has not been seen since his run the l’Abbaye. I like Take Cover here and can see him leading all the way as he did twelve months ago. He was a good 6th in the King’s Stand at Ascot loves it here at York. Stepper Point should also be up with the pace and is one for each way backers while Out Do and Red Baron have been impressive this year and are not out of it either. Selection: Take Cover 6/1 Coral (Stepper Point) Leg 4: 3.10 Newmarket The Bunbury Cup is one of the most competitive handicaps of the season here at Newmarket. We have 20 runners declared and last years winner Heavens Guest is in the line up carrying two pounds more. Richard Fahey’s other runner Rene Mathis is interesting with Paul Hanagan in the saddle and he fits the profile of Fahey’s two winners of this race. Chill The Kite will have his supporters as will the veteran Field Of Dream who won this in 2013. Another one to consider is Bronze Angel who was a decent 7th in the Hunt Cup at Ascot and just behind him was the Luca Cumani horse Ayaar who has Frankie Dettori booked, he was well backed that day and will be looking for compensation now back at 7f. Selection: Rene Mathis 25/1 Bet365 (Ayaar) Leg 5: 3.25 York The 56th running of the John Smith’s Cup and the last five years the prize has gone to Newmarket raiders. Willie Haggas has won two of those and he saddles Homage and Battalion in this years renewal. Of the two I like Battalion who was 6th in the Winter Derby at Lingfield and 3rd in a Group 3 contest the last time he was seen on turf. The Duke of Edinburgh winner Arab Dawn travels up for Hughie Morrison and looks a live danger while Mark Johnston continues in cracking form and he saddles three runners. Of those his Sennockian Star is worth a second look and Zetland Gold Cup winner Fire Fighting is a tough cookie at the top of the weights and can’t be ignored in wide-open affair. Selection: Battalion 16/1 Paddy Power (Fire Fighting) Leg 6 : 3.45 Newmarket : July Cup (Group 1) The July Cup is one most prestigious races of the sprinters season and it has brought together two very exciting horses in the progressive Muhaarar and the Australian raider Brazen Beau. Although the race is full of decent sprinters it does look between the market leaders this time. Muhaarar receives a 6lb age allowance and comes here after winning the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot impressively. He has already won the Gimcrack and the Greenham and now takes on his elders over 6f. Brazen Beau was only second in the Diamond Jubilee but raced all on his own and it was a creditable effort. The jockey got the blame that day and now James Doyle takes over and he will be hard to beta here. G Force may do best of the rest at bigger prices. Selection: Brazen Beau 9/4 Ladbrokes (Muhaarar) https://www.punterslounge.com/scoop-6-betting-july-cup-the-highlight-of-this-weeks-scoop-6
