cully
Hello All, Ian Millward has been suspended by all accounts. What are the chances of any bookie offering odds on next coach? I presume they will have to wait until he has been sacked first.
PAULM03
Re: New St Helens Coach (Rugby League) Why do you know something we don't?:D Betfair might do them but i can't see there being much liquidity. I've been expecting something like this for a while, although not quite under these circumstances. Any idea who the front runners will be? :welcomeby the way. Markpl1
Interesting Rugby League News This could well affect this seasons campaign drastically. Ian Millward the controversial saints coach has been suspended by saints due to an incident last weekend. The rumour is that it has something to do with an arguement with a warrington official in last fridays game. Well they will be loving this over the penines in Leeds. Saints look like the only threat to the rhinos this season and this news will no doubt affect saints play. Millward has been out and out success at Saints in the last 5 years on the field. He is rated by many saints fans as the best coach they have ever had (they have a long history to choose from) and his team is very much built in his own image. This must be quite serious as the board would only consider sacking him in extreme circumstances given his popularity in st helens. One of my best mates is a saints fan so thats why my info comes from.
PAULM03
Re: Interesting Rugby League News I can't see that this could be something to do with a disagreement with an official. I can't ever recall any club in any sport taking such drastic action over an employees disagreement with authority. Personally I don't believe that all has been right behind the scenes since the betting scandal, but wether this is anything to do with that is anyones guess. I'm expecting heaps of rumour and counter-rumour over the next few weeks/months but I can't see how Millwards position can remain tenable. Pobby
Re: New St Helens Coach (Rugby League) What effect does anyone think that this will have on the team for tonight's game? Will they want to do it for Ian or will they be p**sed off and underachieve?
Markpl1
Re: New St Helens Coach (Rugby League) Well who knows to be honest Pobby, i expect the reaction won't be good. I think the players have quite a bit of respect for millward and therefore will be fcuked off with what has happened. They are playing York tho so they will still win easily. There has to be more to it than swearing, i suppose no one ever swears in rugby league.:rollin
PAULM03
Re: New St Helens Coach (Rugby League) Imagine if Man utd. took the same stance against fergie's swearing. It's so obviously bollocks its untrue. There are rumours flying around (that have been flying around for a long time) that the board want rid of him for some reason, but this would just be a bizarre way to go about it. Markpl1
Re: New St Helens Coach (Rugby League) Spoke to my mate about this one. Apparantly its all true he has been suspended for just swearing. Paul your right Eammon McManus (Saints Chairman) can't stand Millward and has been plotting to get rid of him for a while. This appears to be an excuse to get rid.Which no doubt will happen. Winrew
Re: New St Helens Coach (Rugby League) Off the Saints web-site..... God knows what happened ....just scroll down. S statement from Eamonn McManus - Newsteam @ 15:48 GMT St. Helens Chairman Eamonn McManus has issued the following statement on behalf of the Club: "The detailed disciplinary charges against Ian Millward are being considered by me and I anticipate that I will conclude my decision within the next couple of days. "The charges are being grossly and irresponsibly trivialised in the press and in particular by Ian's solicitor Richard Cramer who should not be speaking on the matter at all under the legal disciplinary procedures. "I have always had an excellent relationship with Ian and have always supported him personally, professionally and financially. I even stood by him when he last chose a seriously weakened team against Bradford without the knowledge of the Board of Directors and I stood by him when the gambling charges arose which brought the Club into disrepute in the eyes of our spectators, the game and the wider public - but had nothing to do with the Club itself. "The great name of the Saints has been brought into disrepute too often in recent years and as Chairman I cannot allow this to continue. We should be recognised only for our magnificent rugby and the great standards of the Rugby League game and all it represents. "That said, further action will be taken only if the incidents and other matters are sufficiently grave in their own right. Ian clearly knows that and I trust that the fans now know that. "The Club is presently suffering from having to adhere to the requisite confidentiality of the proceedings. Ian and his solicitor should do likewise and honour this as their actions are de-stabilising the Club. At least have respect for our players who are handling this in a professional and business-like manner. "In the meantime the totally irresponsible way in which people and sources are commenting on this matter, some even people closely associated with the Club, is doing little more than unnecessarily damaging the Club and Ian's own case. This must cease until the full facts are revealed. "Finally, the personal attacks on the Saints Chief Executive Sean McGuire and his family is based on wholly erroneous information. This is resulting in vicious personal attacks against him. It is clearly a planned and carefully orchestrated campaign and I personally find it offensive and upsetting. He has personally turned around the club's financial and commercial position in the past two years, and he is a person of the highest principles and acts absolutely in the best interests of the club. He has done so in this instance also

Markpl1
Re: New St Helens Coach (Rugby League) Millward has been sacked. No real surprise, the club simply stating they feel they had no option. I would assume he will be taking a job back in the NRL after this, i know the offer has been on the table think it was Wests (might be wrong).:eyes

Winrew
Re: New St Helens Coach (Rugby League) New Zealand coach Daniel Anderson been appointed new coach of St Helens. The 37-year-old Australian replaces Ian Millward, who was controversially sacked for gross misconduct on 10 May. Anderson will not take charge for Saturday's Super League against Widnes, but he will be at the helm for the visit of Leeds on 27 May. "I am thrilled - St Helens are one of the great names and I am acutely aware of the proud history and the ambition to remain a leading force," he said. Punto83
Re: New St Helens Coach (Rugby League) Not a bad appointment made there. I was going to back widnes against Saints this weekend if a new coach wasn't put in place. As a side note of Millward leaving, rumours on this side of the pennines is all this swearing malarky is a cover up for a serious Mister Meaner of this nature :nana (don't know if banana's were involved by the way :rollin )
Markpl1
Re: New St Helens Coach (Rugby League) Interesting you say that Punto. I believe Millwards family nearly went back to oz, because of his dalliances off the pitch. Tho having been to St Helens i would imagine there was a lot of temptation put in his way (they are not shy).
