Re: Ligue 1 Orange > February 21st - 23rd Monaco – Reims Monaco have looked fairly good of late and are still in the title race just 5 points behind PSG. But this is definitely an awkward fixture for them. Reims have a superb away record and have only lost twice on the road this season! I’ve said many times that they are probably the flukiest side in ligue 1 and many of their good away results have been fortunate. But at this stage of the season its can’t just be about luck and I think they have to be respected. They aren’t the sort of team who often gets blown out, just like Monaco aren’t the sort of side who thrash anyone on a consistent basis. Therefore, a -1.5 line on Claudio Ranieri’s men offers no appeal whatsoever. Add in the fact that Monaco have often struggled in these Friday night fixtures, then there’s no guarantee they will actually even win straight up! If I had to choose then I’d back Reims +1.5, but overall this feels like an easy game to swerve. Prediction: Monaco 1-1 Reims

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > February 21st - 23rd Marseille – Lorient OM and over 2.5 are two bets that kinda tempt me here but overall I’m going to refrain. I still can’t trust OM fully under Jose Anigo, they seem capable of inconsistent things. He lined up with 5 at the back last week against Sainte, but I’d be shocked if thats the system used here. This is the sort of game in which they typically get overconfident and leave space at the back. Lorient are the sort of side who might punish them too, they have a pacey attack force and will certainly ‘have a go’ at Le Stade Velodrome. I really think this’ll be an open game of football and I see both teams scoring. I’d love to back the over 2.5 but I’ve banned myself from taking this line in France so it’s a no bet situation. OM are an ok price but there’s too much risk involved backing them. In the end I think the hosts might just sneak victory, but I can’t be sure. Prediction: Marseille 3-2 Lorient

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > February 21st - 23rd I also really fancy goals in this game, don't know what it is but I smell goals here. Marseille plays pretty offensively lately except for their away game at St etienne last week but that tactic worked pretty well. Unlucky they conceded a last minute goal but it was not a bad move I think. At home they always play offensively and with the suspension of Romao we might see Thauvin from the start again. Or ofcourse the defensive minded Imbula. Anyways, their formation will be 4-3-3 again if their coach is smart. If not, ofcourse don't back the overs but they played like this at home for weeks now. Their strikers are really hot at the moment. A.Ayew is back one of their best players in recent years. Payet is in top form and Gignac is also scoring goals again and with a player like Thauvin on the bench you have great options after 60 minutes or so. I expect Marseille to dominate at their own stadium but Lorient showed that they are really capable of scoring goals anywhere. Unlucky result last week due that early red card. They will be eager to bounce back and their offense is pretty strong this season. They will miss the suspended Alain Traore for this game but he is a defensive player so only favors the over bet. Ecuele Manga regular defender is probably still not fit to start. Marseille played 4 overs in their last 5 league home games. Lorient always creates a lot of chances against any opponent so if they reach their normal level they are surely good for a goal here. I fancy Marseille to edge this one, after last week Lorient's great streak ended unfortunately for them but we might see a drop in form. It's not surprisingly for a side like Lorient to loose 2 games in a row especially when you play away at Marseille. I just feel like Lorient's magical aura is gone for the moment and that they will have a hard time facing an offensive side like Marseille. 1.75 is not a cracking price but would it be so high if Marseille was at the top of the table? Don't think so, Lorient did great so far and Marseille dissapointed a bit. We might see a difference in class today and I fancy Marseille to edge this but I will keep it to small stakes. Marseille won this fixture earlier this season 0-2. I fancy 2 bets for this game. Marseille to score 2 or more goals around 1.80. Small stakes Over 2.5 goals around 1.90 seems juicy to me. Small stakes Goodluck

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > February 21st - 23rd Bastia – St Etienne Difficult one here. Bastia are hard to beat at home, only good sides are able to get 3 points here. Sainte are a decent team though so it’s possible they could win. Bastia have a few absentees for this match which won’t help their cause either. I expect the hosts the defend and target a draw, making themselves as hard as possible to break down. I would say there’s a fairly high chance of a draw occurring, but if either team is to win then I’d favour St Etienne. There’s no bet here which catches my eye so I’ll definitely swerve it. Prediction: Bastia 0-0 St Etienne Bordeaux – Evian Bordeaux have looked awful since the winter break and lost 4 out of 5 ligue matches. They even got KOd out of the French CUp in shock fashion which rather sums them up in the last 6 weeks. They can’t be backed until they show signs of improvement, maybe they might win today but I wouldn’t bank on it. Evian are always capable of turning up and getting results facing higher reputation teams, they enjoy being underdogs. To me, Bordeaux seem like a horrible odds on favourite today and anyone backing them would be gambling that they suddenly return to form out of nowhere. I think a draw or even an away win is possible based on recent form, but I don’t have the bollocks to bet on Evian. Prediction: Bordeaux 1-1 Evian Guingamp – Nice Guingamp have just one win since the 26th October, but I actually think they have a good chance of 3 points tonight. Guingamp haven’t been playing that badly recently, a lot of unlucky things have been going against them. Nice have such a terrible away record and this will give Guingamp hope they can finally end their winless run. For some reason the south coast side just can’t perform on the road, they play some awful football. Nevertheless, even though I do fancy a home win, there’s no way I could back Guingamp at this price. They are in the middle of a bad run of results and their lack of victories is alarming. They are close to an odds-on shot in places, who on earth would seriously consider backing them at these short odds? Not me, although I do think they have a good chance of winning. Prediction: Guingamp 1-0 Nice Montpellier – Ajaccio I think Montpellier will win but taking them -1.25 would be a little dangerous. Ajaccio do have a habit of covering big handicaps away from home and have at least shown some fight recently. Until it looks like they have quit and given up for the season I don’t think its worth taking them on. Montpellier have played well under new manager Courbis but their inability to put away Evian a couple of weeks ago was a concern. They would just be happy to get 3 points here and I have a sneaky suspicion they’ll only win by one goal. It’s worth noting that Ajaccio have scored in 7 of their last 8 games so if they continue that trend then Montpellier would have to score 3 times to cover the handicap. No bet situation for me here. Prediction: Montpellier 2-1 Ajaccio Valenciennes – Sochaux This is a huge match down at the bottom of the table and a genuine ‘6 pointer’ It’s almost a must win game for both teams and it should be a tense affair with a lot at stake. VA have home advantage but in a match like this where both teams will throw the kitchen sink, anything can happen. The odds are completely wrong and VA shouldn’t be this short. They are a slightly better side than Sochaux, but not by this much of a margin. Sochaux +0.5 is probably a value bet, but very risky to take. Les Lionceaux have a 0-2-11 away record this season which is absolutely appalling, But records can sometime mean little in matches like this where motivation will be at it’s highest. I have a feeling this will end a draw. How many times in a ‘must win match for both sides’ does it actually end all square! It always seems to happen! Prediction: Valenciennes 2-2 Sochaux

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > February 21st - 23rd

I guess that's the longest analysis I've ever read for a big NO BET. :) Great work, meatman.
Yeh one of those days where I just haven't seen any value pre match in Ligue 1. Just have to see what develops IR, you never know when a good bet might develop.

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > February 21st - 23rd Well, Marseille played as expected 4-3-3 and with Thauvin too. Pretty offensive but Lorient was once again solid at the back. Marseille won in the end, better side overall but damn bets lost. Only 1-0! Luckily only small bets. I also skipped these other games. Let's see how they will end.

It looks like OM have now started to find a way to be more solid. 2 clean sheets in 3 matches, and let's be honest they should've had one against Sainte last week too. I am relieved to avoid losing in this match, if the goal line had been 2.25 I would've backed overs for sure.

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > February 21st - 23rd Yeah, Marseille found a way to control the game without giving much space away. Starting today even with this line-up. 5 attackers in their first 11 so I thought let's give it a go at home. Lorient normally always good for a goal couldn't find the net but as expected their streak ended last week and Marseille won the game. Maybe should have taken the home win instead of the 2 goals but can't win em all. Metz delivered well today along some great bets out of the UK section in here. Lots of unders again tonight lol, Lille - Lyon should be interesting tomorrow. :)

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > February 21st - 23rd Another day where I don't like any bets. The bookies have just been so spot on IMO this weekend and only tempted punters on some away teams who aren't really worth considering because of the high risk option. Both remaining games today look very drawish, there's just nothing that interests me. Can't remember the last time I didn't have a single bet in a ligue 1 round but this is one of the few exceptions.
