Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Oct 5 Three plays for me... St Albans City away at Truro City (7/6 Marathon) There are some signs that St Albans might be shaking off their indifferent early season showings - the arrival of Ram Marwa will help beef up the midfield and there are some signs that they are starting to take the chances they've been creating. They travel down today, although they may be missing a couple of bodies due to work commitments. Steve Massey has been having a poor time at Truro - they've taken just two points from 12 at home and won twice all season, at AFC Totton and Hinckley, who are among the weakest teams in the section (you can add Redditch to that list). Cambridge City away at Bedford Town (Evs, Corals/Marathon) Bedford's two home wins against Totton and Stourbridge have been backs-to-the-wall efforts, and although they performed well in a dismantling of Chippenham away they have not defended well all season - they're conceding an average of two-and-a-half goals a game. Cambridge City have been performing much better than I expected this season, losing only once (n August, home to Poole), and are 2-2-0 away. Despite a fairly turbulent summer, when key squad members moved on, they have a stable squad now, and it'll help that Luke Allen is staying. They are looking happy in possession and organised when they have to defend - that's maybe all they'll need. Ilkeston Town away at Stockbridge Park Steels (13/10 Marathon) Ilkeston have gone off the boil a bit after a good start but that just reflects the relative youthfulness of the squad - mistakes will happen, and in truth they are defending quite poorly at times. They are, however, creating plenty, and Stocksbridge don't offer the physical threat or pace of Grantham and Rushall (who both beat Ilkeston recently) and they haven't won since the opening day (at home to Droylsden) - only Droylsden have conceded more so far this season.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Oct 5 Also backing Ilkeston stocksbridge are consistently poor, don't have much quality with maybe the exception of the ageing Betts who still delivers quality from set plays. I fancy a comfortable win for Ilkeston especially if the likes of Ricketts turns up,on his day is as good as target man in this division and should be to much for Stocksbridges back line to deal with, also Hooton returns after serving his suspension so he provides another option up front. Add the quality of 1 of the best talents in the league in Matt Richards , the price seems a good 1 for me. Fc United 11/10 vs Marine i backed marine through the week, but that was more to do with the opposition being poor oppose to marine being a good outfit. Don't get me wrong Marine have a goal threat in Andy Fowler but I think there league position is a bit false at the moment. I have seen them a couple of times this season and should have lost against Nantwich but managed to snatch all 3 points and scraped a draw against struggling Stafford. fc on the other hand have lost there last 5 out the last 6 games in all competitions but for me still have more quality than marine, obviously recent form has effected the odds a lot but I firmly believe the Manchester outfit are much superior than the crosby side.

That's a good point about Chris Bettney - still class. Nathan Joynes is also doing pretty well also, tucked in nicely among the leading scorers in the section. Alex Callery has his moments too, but their problem isn't creating it's at the other end.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Oct 5 Betway have a full list of FA Trophy Prelims priced up, which I've tried - but failed - to set up as a thread here. A couple of big numbers really appeal - Taunton Town are 4.0 for the trip to Swindon Super. Swindon have done amazingly well this season, but their league position is built on a home results and it hasn't always been as easy as a 5-0-0 record suggests. Taunton are big underperformers this season, but there have been flashes of what they can do - winning at Mangotsfield then slipping to a very daft defeat at Guildford. They've also, incidentally, signed up one of the Dorchester departurees, Tim Sandercombe. They are a sporting price at this mark. I'll also take a chance with 6.0 Aylesbury at VCD Athletic. VCD are tearing up the Ryman 1 North - Dartford's best club at the moment. It's quite hard to pick holes in what they have been doing so I'm not even going to start, but Aylesbury have much more quality than their terrible start suggests. Craig Faulconbridge's side are starting to show what they can do - their 1-0-5 record has become 4-0-5 with three decent wins (though admittedly against lowly opposition). They are nowhere near favourites but they are nothing like 5/1 shots. For a double I'm pairing Royston Town and Folkestone Invicta at home. Folkestone are struggling, but did okay at Ebbsfleet and have much potential. Waltham Forest have lost all six league games on the road. 1.95 Folkestone is value. Royston Town are finding it harder than I expected to get going but they've only lost once to leaders Daventry. Visitors Three Bridges started the season in fine form but they are slipping back into midtable, where they will probably stay. 1.9 Royston is a decent price. The double plays a touch over 3.7.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Oct 5 Another bet for me today - Wealdstone at 17/20 to beat Margate. While Margate are no whipping boys, the reintroduction of Glenn Little to the Wealdstone squad is a huge bonus for the home side as he looks a cut above anyone else in this division. Scott McGleish is still a threat to any defence and I've been impressed by Wealdstone in the matches that I've seen this season. Goalless losses away to Grays and Dulwich in their previous two away matches doesn't read well on the Margate form book and I very much doubt Wealdstone will lose their unbeaten tag today. I also think Bognor will beat Enfield by a few goals as the Enfield defence is all over the place (although I haven't seen Bognor play this season so I'm leaving that match alone).

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Oct 5 Very handsome day in these divisions - Ilkeston, St Albans and Cambridge City all landed. Less good on the Trophy, where the double failed as well as the two longshots - but overall a thoroughly profitable session and a promising start to the month. Great calls by scouse joe on Ilkeston and FCUM.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Oct 5 looking ahead to midweek I cant understand why witham town are a massive 10-11 to beat ware in a trophy replay, witham are flying high in the ryman and were mightily unlucky to lose to hemel last midweek in the fa cup wheeras ware are bottom two of the same league? looks a great price

looking ahead to midweek I cant understand why witham town are a massive 10-11 to beat ware in a trophy replay' date='witham are flying high in the ryman and were mightily unlucky to lose to hemel last midweek in the fa cup wheeras ware are bottom two of the same league? looks a great price[/quote'] It's a great price, BG, and one that makes little sense. I also like Aylesbury at a big number - 4.5 - to beat VCD. They did pretty well in the first game and should really have won. I must apologise for the lack of midweek threads - I seem to be unable to create new threads at the moment. The one take in the leagues for me is St Albans City away at Bedford Town. They've been backed in to a best of 6/5 but still look a bit of value - Bedford aren't performing and St Albans are giving all the signs of embarking on a season-changing run.
