Re: League 1 > 10th - 11th August Putting this one up early Gillingham to beat Wolves - 4/1 Various I have just watched Wolves play Morecambe tonight. They have yet again failed to score and hit the target 3 times, against Preston they failed to hit the target in the 2nd half. Something is still not right at Molineaux it seems even though they seem to have a good squad. A lot is being relied upon a young midfield at the moment with them expected to create for the strikers and they just are not doing that at the moment resulting in long balls being played from the back. Gillingham played well in parts tonight despite losing 2-0 to Bristol City. Adebayo Akinfenwa missed numerous chances for his side to get them back in the game which in the end cost them dearly. Gillingham had a excellent away record last season in League 2 with them really excelling away from home as they often struggled infront of their own fans at times. They could count themselves unlucky to lose 1-0 against Colchester on opening day after conceding a 89th minute goal after Danny Kedwell had earlier hit the crossbar.

Re: League 1 > 10th - 11th August wolves very unlucky against Morecambe hitting the woodwork on 3 occasions and dominating play - think their luck will change and 8-11 with PP seems quite good when there was 2 leagues between these 2 only a few months back

Re: League 1 > 10th - 11th August Kevin McDonald is having a medical at Wolves today according to Sheffield media reports. That would beef Wolves midfield up a bit, he had a good game last Friday versus Notts co. and scored utds opener. On the other hand with blades away at Brentford tomorrow an already tough fixture just got tougher! Losing their midfield talisman will be a big blow to their chances in London and with only Porter (who is terrible) or un tested youngster Lyle Taylor up front they are going to struggle for goals big time. Brentford at home at 5/4 looks decent to me (does anybody have any details on Brentford that would either back up or shoot down the above?)

Re: League 1 > 10th - 11th August Preston have only conceded 1 in the their last 8 competitive home games and are a promotion rival. Difficult to gauge such things on the first day so i wouldn't read too much into it. Wolves had one cleared off the line and the match could of gone either way despite the reports. Take the Morcambe match with a pinch of salt. We had 6 injuries, 5 of which are back in the fold tomorrow and despite losing to a free a kick we bossed the majority of the game and were unlucky with the woodwork. If McDonald signs he won't be available for tomorrow. Wolves are having a massive tribute tomorrow to the late Dave Wagstaffe who died on Tuesday. Expect a hyped atmosphere and a decent crowd. For me, 8/11 seems a decent price as everything seems to point towards Wolves getting a result here but as it's my team, it's a no bet from me.

Re: League 1 > 10th - 11th August [h=1]League One Opta Facts – August 10[/h] Bradford City v Carlisle United

  • Carlisle United have only managed to beat Bradford City once in the last 18 league meetings between these teams (D8 L9).
  • This is the first league meeting between these two teams since New Year's Day 2007; Carlisle won this fixture 1-0.
  • Bradford have gone four matches in all competitions without a victory over Carlisle (D2 L2).
  • Bradford City's draw against Bristol City ended a run of four losses on the opening day of the season.
  • Nahki Wells was on target for the Bantams against Bristol City and has now netted nine times in his last nine league games (inc. play offs).
Brentford v Sheffield United
  • The Blades have beaten the London side in three of the last four league fixtures to have taken place at Brentford.
  • Brentford have only managed one win in the last eight against the Yorkshire club in league competition (D3 L4).
  • In the last seven league fixtures to have been played between these two teams, at least one side finished the game having scored two goals.
  • Blades defender Harry Maguire scored on the opening day of the 2013/14 season against Notts County, he also scored on the opening day of the 2011/12 season against Oldham.
  • The last time these sides met, three players were handed red cards, Harry Maguire, Tony Craig and Clayton Donaldson.

  • There has only been one draw in the last 12 league games between the teams, Colchester winning five of them with Port Vale running out winners in six.
  • Colchester secured an opening weekend victory against Gillingham on Saturday, courtesy of an 89th minute Andy Bond strike. Last season the U's netted just five goals in the final fifteen minutes of matches; a league-low.
  • After the opening weekend, Port Vale are now unbeaten in their last nine league games, winning three (D6).
Leyton Orient v Shrewsbury Town

  • Crewe are looking for their first win at MK Dons in the league, having failed to win in their two previous attempts (D1 L1).
  • There was not a single card shown in the corresponding fixture at the Stadium:mk last season.
  • There is yet to be a result between these sides where one side has scored more than two goals.
  • Last weekend's 3-3 draw against Rotherham was the first time Crewe had scored three or more goals on the opening day of the season since 1992, when they beat Torquay 4-2 at home.
Notts County v Peterborough United
  • Notts County have won only once in the last 12 league meetings with Peterborough (D3 L8).
  • The Magpies have netted only one goal in the previous five at home to the Posh in the league.

Watched our first game and we were alright without really impressing, Colchester were the better team second half and deserved the win, after seeing they got dic*ed by Peterborough 5-1 I'm not sure where that leaves us! This is obviously the game the smaller club's supporters in L1, like us, will write off as lost before we start put off by Wolves's budget (probably 4 times the size of ours) and the quality of their players. Ignoring opinion, our right back Matt Fish who was one of our best players last year, did his cruciate in the first 4 minutes of the first game and we have signed Harriman from QPR as cover - no idea if he is any good, right back is certainly an area we have little cover for though. An old-school defensive rearguard game suits us down to the ground, Leon Legge and Adam Barrett will win everything in the air and put their heads and bodies on the line..if I was to recommend a bet I would say Both to Score, I really can't see us keeping a clean sheet at Molineux but equally I can't see us going 3 games without scoring even if we lose the game. Would take a very brave man to back us for the win, I wouldn't say a draw is totally unthinkable though. GL anyway, be delighted if you are right :lol

Notts County V Peterborough Over 2.5 goals @ 1.9 - Stan James. I like Peterborough here. I tipped them to win the league and after two games they're looking like they will be top three come May. They hit five in midweek away to Colchester and I believe they'll still be a bit of an covers side this season. Notts County have already gone over 2.5 goals in both games this season and I think defence will be a real issue for them here as they have only one recognised center back in Captain Dean Leacock available. Meaning they'll have to turn to either of youngsters Gregg Tempest or Callum McGregor. Elsewhere you can get 1.7'ish on the overs, which makes near evens look like the value to me.

Notts are short in defence. Liddle is their best defender and he is out. His likely replacement Smith was sent off in midweek's League Cup match. Offense is strong. And Peterborough are famous for their goalish matches.

The overs look appealing again tomorrow in Coventry's first "home" outing at Northampton's Sixfields stadium. The home fans are planning on making a statement by boycotting the game so it won't have much of a home atmosphere. Its a bit of a unique situation in the modern game as it takes time to build familiarity with your own stadium, but they're not even going to be playing in the same city. Coventry conceded three in midweek away to Orient and three last weekend away to Crawley, while Bristol drew 2-2 with Bradford. I think Coventry will be playing for the win as they look to make up for the ten point deduction awarded them. Therefore goals look on the cards. Available @ 2.05 - bet365.
