Vodafone Gold Cup chase - Newbury Sat

Recommended Posts

Big race at Newbury tomorrow: First Gold - better over 3m. Now 12yo carrying 11st 12lb. No wins over ther this distance. It takes time - Better at 3m. Dour stayer in its day. Won at Lingfield LTO beating Hand inn Hand 4 1/2l. 4lb worse off in this race. Hand inn hand - 4lb pull with horse above. Has winning form over this distance. LTO made mistakes at final 2 fences otherwise, i felt it would have won. Ran in this last year & has 11lb pull for 8l with Turgenov who finished 2nd. Has a great chance. Turgenov - ran a great 2nd in this race last year. not much form this year. Has a much higher weight to carry this year also. Knife Edge - not won over distance. 126 day break also puts me off. Venn Ottery - Never won over further than 2m 1f, also absence of 298 days is too much. plus is that Pipe now trains so you never know. I can see it. Mouseski - in great form but never won more than a class b chaseBeat Royal Emperor LTO but was getting a lump of weight that day. Supreme Prince - Good form over C/D in November when beating Claymore by 3/4l in a class B chase. Danger. Avalanche - Better at 2m. Not won above Class B. Buckby Lane - Has won 2 good chases at Chelt, the last beating the likes of Farmer Jack etc however that was Cheltenham. if Farmer JAck was in this field, i would fancy Farmer jack. Will be favourite based on that. Horus - better at 3m. Ran a stinker last week & i have doubts about the jockey Malone. Has a C/D to its name but that was 2yr ago. I tipped it last week in the RP chase but cannot see it winning this over 1/2m shorter unless Pipe has been cheating with it. Prone to jumping errors. Amberleigh House - better over 3m + Not up to winning this. Will run in the National come April. Chavinist - an interesting runner winning a novice chase well LTO at Sandown. Will run well off its low weight. Le Duc - Course will not suit. Whereareyounow - Think this horse will be better over 3m. Won well at Uttoxeter LTO. Would rather see it running at Cheltenham than this race. Simply gifted - Won a chase at Ayr last year but is 5lb worse with Turgenov on that basis. Another horse not ran for a while due to O'Neills virus. Scots Grey - pulled out of RP chase last week. Has good form over distance. Could be a lively EW shot. Marked man - better start now to win this. In summary: I rate 1.HAND INN HAND 2. SUPREME PRINCE 3. CHAUVINIST 4. SCOTS GREY IT TAKES TIME / BUCKBY LANE are also ones to consider based on their current form.

Re: Vodafone Gold Cup chase - Newbury Sat Bloody hell, if Horus had won, it would have killed me after last weeks 25/1 stinker in the RP chase. Hand Inn Hand ran reasonably well in 5th holding every chance 2 out. Le Duc, First Gold, Buckby lane, Whereareyounow all down the field. It was just the course in my eyes. I have been watching Le Duc ever since i backed it the first ever time it ran over hurdles. Aintree / Chelt suits the horse better which is slightly strange as these both have different characteristics. Look out for these 4 again during the season however, today was just not thier day.
