Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 23 The weather could be an issue if pitches freeze tonight but temperatures are positive tomorrow so fingers crossed we won't see too many call-offs. Frickley Athletic at home to Grantham Town (10/11 Marathon) I was hoping for a touch more but this price will do. Last time out at home against Chorley, Frickley were poor but that's an exception rather than the rule - they've been combative and committed at home generally, and they've added a few bodies that should give them a stronger spine. Grantham have been shuffling the pack completely in the past couple of months, with a virtually new starting XI. They don't look the worst of sides on paper, with TJ Nightingale leading the line these days, but since the 4-0 win over whipping boys Eastwood on New Year's Day they've lost five in a row, conceding 15. Hemel Hempstead Town at home to Gosport Borough (Evs Marathon) The 11/10s have gone but there's still value here. Hemel's recent squad changes haven't completely got rid of an inconsistent streak but it's hard to argue with successive wins at Cambridge City, Stourbridge and Chippenham, and a solid performance in knocking Bishop's Stortford out of the county cup this week. They're undoubtedly the most attractive side to watch in the Southern Prem this season, and they've got the firepower to overcome the section's meanest defence. Gosport, as I've argued on here before (usually to my cost) are organised and clinical but have been pretty fortunate to keep their unbeaten run going. Hitchin Town at home to Bashley (11/10 widespread) Marathon had them a touch higher though that has been trimmed. Crucially for me, Hitchin seem to have sorted out their defensive issues - the only goal they've conceded in three was a very late Leamington winner in the 1-0 home defeat. Prior to that they'd beaten Totton and Banbury 4-0. In midfield they look a touch flakey but they have a better balanced attack with Jake Woolley offering some support to the excellent John Frendo, who is on something of a hot-streak. Bashley have only beaten Kettering in ten, and though they have been performing better away they have only managed a point at Frome in the last four away trips. It's a Frank Gray side, so they are hard to beat, but they are also tentative going forward with very little firepower in their locker and I think Hitchin have the edge. Hendon at home to Wealdstone (14/5 Marathon) The price has been coming in a bit, though it's still attractive. Wealdstone have Richard Jolly back and appear to be going up the gears with three successive wins - they are rightly favourites. But by this much? I think not. Hendon are on a run of one defeat in ten, which has included an excellent draw at home to Whitehawk and wins at Bury and Canvey, as well as a win over Kingstonian at home. Until the win at Enfield, Wealdstone had gone six on the road with three draws and three defeats.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 23 Margate have signed George Purcell from Tonbridge. He's hardly been pulling up any trees this season but he's a decent larker who should do well at this level, and will provide an answer to one of Margate's problems in recent weeks: an inability to finish after largely coherent approach play. Coherence is something that Hampton - Margate's opponents - have been lacking. A better squad than Margate's on paper, they have been let down by a sometimes baffling tactical approach. Though both sides are on an indifferent run, I think Margate have the edge an are a touch of value at 13/10 with Marathon.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 23 I've just backed Leiston to win away to Carshalton Athletic. Leiston are scoring for fun (11 in their last 3 matches) and I'd be amazed if they don't score a few tomorrow against the RPL's weakest side, who are further handicapped by the loss of their leading scorer, Nathanial Pinney who's suspended. Seemingly their midweek performance was as bad as they've been (and having seen them, that must be truly dire!) Leiston have an impressive front line led by Emmanuel Osei with the bustling Nathan Stone a handful for most defences in this league. As an aside, neither Ladbrokes nor Paddy Power would lay me a £390 - £300 at 13/10, saying that the price had been cut. Paddy Power did lay me £100 at 13/10 and £200 at 11/10. It looks as though they might have moved their limits on this league. Boo.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 23 It's an inevitable development at this level of punting, LondonH, and a couple of winners are all you need for the risk department to get an attack of the yips. Negotiating these limits becomes a necessary part of the non-league gambler's strategy, even if it means sharing the staking across a number of different houses at a smaller average price. On the Leiston tip, they look well equipped to get something at Carshalton but it's a worry for me that they were in action last night.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 23 Ships - You're right about Leiston only having 48 hours to recover, but I still think they'll be too strong for Carshalton. Even a strong 45 minutes in the 1st half will hopefully see them home and hosed. Carshalton will really need to up their performances, but I'm not really sure they can. They look like a bunch of hapless black geezers that have been rustled together from the boozers of South London with little or no training. Here's hoping, anyway. Bit of a bummer re my local Paddy Power as they've laid me bets of up to £500 on this league. It looks as if my card has been marked :-(

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 23 Worksop 8/13 to win nantwich Nantwich's recent poor form has been well documented add to the fact that there star player/leading goal scorer Sean Cooke has signed for league rivals Fylde makes this even more appealing for me. I know Nantwich have a good away record but they have lost several key players and as they wont reach the play offs they are obviously consolidating and preparing for next season. I think Worksop will be far to experienced than this new young Nantwich side and I'm banking on them to pick up all 3 points on Saturday.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 23

Bets of £500 on Ryman Premier games are going to stick out like a sore thumb.
The point is, addpea - Ladbrokes (the UK's so called #1 High Street firm) advertised a price of 13/10 but refused to lay a bet at the price. Paddy Power at least laid £100 at their advertised odds. If these firms aren't willing to lay a decent sized bet, then they shouldn't price up the market. FFS - Ladbrokes liability was a mere £390 for a £300 outlay. Hardly huge in the broad scheme of things. I've had a couple of on-line accounts closed down/restricted but I've never experienced a cash bet being rejected in a shop before. Apologies if this has taken the thread off-topic.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 23 Just seen the news that the Concord/Thurrock game was A-A after a double leg break for Harry Elmes. He's been one of the best players to watch in the Ryman Prem this season, and a key reason for Concord's rise. Hope he's back playing again as soon as possible.

You say that though, but don't forget a Ryman Premier game is going to take little money so any large bets like that are going to stand out. Id imagine that Laddies thought if someone was going into a shop to have a £300 bet on a Ryman Prem game then they knew something they didn't so they didn't want to take the bet. Don't forget bookies are out to make money not to just lay any bet going.
