Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Jan 26 Another session that'll be weather dependent, but Chesham United at 19/10 for the trip to Gosport Borough is excellent (Bet365). Some canny signings - which have been well documented on here - and a flurry of games have propelled Chesham up the table, which makes all the early December talk about targeting the playoffs less risible than it sounded at the time. It was a tired performance against Redditch, so they'll benefit from a rest. Gosport are riding a form horse of their own at the moment, but I'm much less convinced by its substance. Their unbeaten run is into double figures and they have been playing with spirit, but home performances are patchy - they didn't win at home at all until the middle of November. Since then, they haven't been beaten, but apart from the thrashing of Kettering, they haven't been convincing either. They needed a last-minute goal against Banbury when Banbury were at their lowest ebb and struggling Hitchin drew here. Totton and Bideford both lost but left wondering how, while out-of-form Frome came away with a point without much of a sweat. Despite the excellent Justin Bennett leading the line, this is a team whose unbeaten run is teetering a little. I have Chesham at 6/4.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Jan 26 Concord are a better side than Bury, but even the 8/5 doesn't appeal. I'd happily lay Bury with the draw on my side. Wealdstone against Hastings @ 4/9 should be avoided. Neither are in good form but I can't see a Hastings win. 4/9 is no bet for me. The stand-out looks to be Margate at home to East Thurrock @ 4/5. They create chances and East Thurrock really aren't up to much. That's probably where I'll play. Cray look a tasty price against Lowestoft. Only a mug would back the home side at 1/2 after Cray's performance at Hastings in midweek. I'll swerve the other matches. One bet for me....if the game is on! Good luck....I'll probably go to the Enfield match, simply for reconnaissance :-)

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Jan 26 Concord Rangers away at Bury Town (8/5 Corals) Marathon go 2/1. Concord are the entertainers of the section - only Whitehawk have scored more goals this season - and they remind me a little of how Bury used to play before this season, with width and pace going forward, and clinical on the counter. These days, Bury have been muddling through, in decent fashion it has to be said, and they deserve some credit for the backs-to-the-wall win at Canvey, where they took their chance and rode their luck. It'll probably be a stronger Bury than of late - they haven't been able to fill the bench for a few games - but they were done last time out at home by East Thurrock. The lack of games for Concord is a worry, but the simple fact is that they unbeaten away since the opening day drubbing at Lowestoft and the value is with the visitors. Two other plays are depressingly dependent on the weather... Ashton United at home to Witton Albion (8/5 Coral). Ashton have failed badly at home against the better sides recently, but I'm sure they'll have enough against a Witton side who are not performing as well as a couple of months ago for me. The hope is Aaron Burns is back for Ashton, though the weather probably means a P-P. Stocksbridge Park Steels at home to Grantham Town (6/4 Corals). Squad changes and a slight uptick in SPS's form puts them in the value category for me; Grantham haven't seen much improvement since the management change - the only points in seven games came in a home win against Eastwood. A likely P-P again.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Jan 26 OFFS in the Southern Prem Barwell/Bash Frome/Cambridge C Hemel/Weymouth Redditch/Bideford Only Matlock/Ferriby off so far in the Northern Prem, but it doesn't look too good for any of the fixtures. Inspections tomorrow in the Ryman at Wealdstone (9.30) and Enfield T (10).

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Jan 26 Only games still on in the Northern Prem are Ashton/Witton, Fylde/Frickley, Ilkeston/Nantwich, and Kendal/Hednesford. Snowing and below freezing in Ashton, there's an 8am at Kendal, and a 9.30 at Ilkeston - all in serious doubt. They are attempting to clear the pitch at Fylde in the morning, where there is an outside chance of a game.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Jan 26 AFC Totton/St Neots has a reasonable chance of surviving tomorrow. Leamington are investigating whether to stage a home game if the Arlesey pitch is unfit (game is still on). 9.30am inspection at Chippenham, but the are hopeful the game will go ahead; games at Stourbrigde and Bedworth still on.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Jan 26 Well done, Ships. I kept my cash in the hip pocket but should have backed Concord. I said it a few weeks ago....keep them and Margate on-side. I didn't have a bet in the end and didn't make it to Enfield, but by all accounts, Bognor could have scored half a dozen (quote from a director of Enfield who I shared a Burns Supper).

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Jan 26 Nice one, LH - you did well get back from the supper by 1am! I heard Bognor were good yesterday - they are doing well to gather points at this stage when the pitches don't suit them. I was at Met Police/Whitehawk - the Hawks look much more convincing than they did earlier in the season; great spirit and physically strong - it'll take a very good side to beat them, and I've not seen a hint of that from the main contenders this season. No Richard Logan for Bury today, and once again just three on the bench, and they'll be missing two more bodies in the near future (not sure of the length of the bans).
