Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23 Prices on the Trophy game are a right mess - the book is around the 85% mark. In the circumstances - the match being switched to Barrow, the morale boosting win at Newport, the arrival of Danny L Rowe to give the attack another dimension, and the switch of Yemi Odubade to FGR on loan leaving Gateshead a little light up front - 18/5 Barrow at Bet365 is higher than I can make it.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23 Barrow/Gateshead market continues to look a bit of a mess. Bet365 have palped the earlier bet at 18/5, but Corals and BetFred are standing by offerings of 3/1 and 10/3 respectively (Coral are still 3/1 while BetFred's market has disappeared). BetVics are now offering Barrow at 18/5, correctly listing the fixture with Barrow as the home side. The book is still at 85%, astonishingly. I don't make Barrow favourites but circumstances are changed from last week and 18/5 is way further out than my own price. The weather, clearly, is an issue, but the far north-west is a bit warmer than most parts and it should remain above freezing for most of the next two days. Snow and rain are forecast and it's just a question of how much, but as things stand there's the chance the game could be on.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23 The Barrow/Gateshead book is coming back into something like normality, although Corals' offering of 3/1 Barrow is skewing things. Bet365 refunded my bet from yesterday morning and re-presented the fixture with Barrow at home at 2/1, which then drifted out to threes before coming back in. In official FA Trophy terms, this remains a Gateshead home game, with Barrow as the away side, no matter where the fixture is played, which makes it tricky for the bookies to keep up. (Bwin are one of a number of outfits still showing Gateshead first, although there is no indication that the match is being played at Barrow.) Generally speaking, Barrow's preferred formation this season has been a 4-5-1, which hasn't allowed them to relieve the pressure by getting on the front foot for any length of time. Danny L. Rowe's arrival makes them much more credible as a 4-4-2 (or, strictly speaking, a 4-4-1-1), which clearly worked for them on Saturday, when they played with much more attacking intent than of late - they were also better defensively, which meant my total goals spread bet in that fixture finished the wrong side of the line. Weather permitting, I'd expect a much more even game on Tuesday, and although I still don't make Barrow favourites anything around the 2/1 mark is a sporting play. Gateshead, I feel, are in a false position in the league and are dangerous opponents, but they are not in the best nick and are still getting used to a new manager. Very possibly, it will be a different Barrow from the side that lost 2-0 at home to Gateshead on Boxing Day.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23 Hastings United at home to Cray Wanderers (5/4 widespread) Even though they last won at the start of November, I feel there is a touch of value here (Marathon are offering Hastings at 7/5). Cup distractions are out of the way and, pitch permitting, this will be a stronger league XI than we've seen for some time. The excellent Ben Judge is on board, as well a couple of loan signings, to bolster numbers, and although one or two key players are still missing the defence will look a lot tighter than it has. They had a run out against a strong Whitehawk last week in the League Cup and put on a decent show, winning 4-3. Cray are on a dismal run, as regulars on this thread will know. It's five defeats in a row since the turn of the year, and although they are playing with some spirit and have a decent attack with Leigh Bremner a danger, they are conceding too easily and the squad is looking as thin as it did when they played Bognor last week.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23

Barrow match is subject to a 1pm pitch inspection.
A posting on the fans' forum this afternoon said: "The pitch is not frozen but now has a light covering of snow. Conditions will continue to be monitored this afternoon, evening and early morning with a formal inspection at 1pm tomorrow. Hopefully this will be merely precautionary as long as the weather forecast is accurate, which it hasn't been so far today!" They've a fighting chance of the game being on, I think. There's not much snow in the forecast and although suggested temperatures for tonight and tomorrow are colder than those predicted yesterday, they don't go minus.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23 Harrogate Town at home to Workington (10/11 BetVics, Ladbrokes) As far out as Evs at Marathon... The switch to Doncaster will help Workington's passing game, but Harrogate look in better nick, although there must be a certain rustiness to both sides, particularly Worko, who've played just five games since the thumping at Bradford in November. They've also lost midfield dynamo Will Vaulks this week, and the quirky talents of forward Joe Mwasile after the Histon defeat, so with Jordan Connerton coming back to fitness, they are down to the bare bones and I don't think they'll be relishing the trip to Donny and the fast and furious challenge of Harrogate. They've had an inspection tonight and need another tomorrow, so this could be a premature posting, but they do keep the pitch covered so it could be game on.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23

A shame about the Harrogate game as the pitch was in excellent nick. Meanwhile, Barrow are asking for volunteers to help clear the pitch tomorrow ahead of the inspection.
Well it had loads of snow on it and you cant play football on snow! lol

Ships - FWIW, I've seen Hastings three times this season (plus a couple of times on the TV) and I'd strongly advise against backing them for any significant amount. They really are a poor side and even made Enfield Town look good. They've very little creativity and rely on Goldberg and Attwood up front to produce any sort of spark. Cray aren't much better, but 5/4 doesn't represent value. I'd happily lay Hastings at 7/4 if there was a trade on Betfair.

Fair enough points, LondonH, and they have been on a terrible league run. All I'd say is that side looks a deal stronger than the one they put out at Enfield - a performance which had an element of the not-Middlesbrough about it - and they showed what they could do against a decent Whitehawk XI last week, creating plenty of chances and even managing to finish some (though their defensive frailty was still there). The new signings will serve as a sharpener to the rest of the squad. I think they are a decent side that has been playing poorly, rather than a poor one per se.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23 Games at Dartford, Cambridge U, FGR, Mansfield and Tamworth off in the Prem. Brackley/Gloucester is off in the North; games at Dorchester and Dover off, with inspections at Sutton and Welling in the South. The only Step 3 games still on tomorrow are Hednesford/Fylde, which is unlikely to go ahead, and Hastings/Cray, subject to a midday. One of the Hastings directors was tweeting earlier today that there is a chance the game will be on, and the forecast is certainly for warmer weather from about 9 tomorrow. It all depends on how quickly that comes in, though it's an outside chance.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23

The snow was on two layers of covers' date=' not the grass, but there was nowhere to clear it to - the runoff areas were already full. The pitch itself was perfectly playable.[/quote'] Think it was access to the ground as well. I was only joking anyway although if you have snow and covers on a pitch then I still dont technically think it was playable.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23 Wrexham/Southport is off. Volunteers clearing the snow at Woking this morning and there's a chance that could be on; the inspection at Luton this morning will most likely concentrate on the surrounding roads as the pitch is said to be okay; there's an inch of snow on the Grimsby pitch but there seems a good chance that game will be on once it's cleared. Pitch inspections at Welling at 10 and Sutton at 11; and Hastings at 12 and Barrow at 1. That only leaves Hednesford, whose pitch has more snow on it than any of the surviving games and seems unlikely to go ahead.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 21-23 "Still some snow in the pitch but thawing" at Hastings says a tweet by the groundsman this morning, though there's still some way to go. I don't think it froze overnight and temperatures look helpful today. Not one you can bet on, but Eastleigh fans are clearing snow off the pitch for the Truro game tonight, though it has been below freezing overnight.
