Re: Ligue 2 > 18th Jan - 21st Jan Bonjour all, Firstly, happy new year to you all, and apologies for my absence last week. My goldfish was ill. We are already one match down for this card, as Sedan seem incapable of protecting their pitch properly from the cold conditions that have ravaged the Ardennes region. At this rate, they'll have a lot of games to catch up on. Hardly ideal when you're bottom of the league. Tonight's matches are all pretty tricky for the punter. I'd expect Caen to beat an average away side like Niort at home, but the odds reflect the probability of that. Caen have won six of their nine matches at the Michel d'Ornano and look a good bet for promotion. I'd be disappointed if they weren't winning this sort of match. GFCO Ajaccio have signed Jean-Francois Riviere from Clermont, who is a bit of a goal-machine at this level. He fell out with Regis Brouard at Clermont after he almost got them promoted and barely featured this season, but he is a wily, burly targetman who has scored wherever he has played. He's a shrewd signing and will help Idriss Saaidi in attack. They have a tricky trip to Arles in a relegation clash. Arles are missing a few players, but they are normally pretty tough to beat in Avignon. There's a hint of goals in this match, but I also think it's quite hard to get a handle on how it'll pan out. I'd attribute the same synopsis to the Le Mans v Chateauroux match. Both teams are missing players, both teams are out of form. If you want a bet there, goals are probably best of bad options. Istres welcome Monaco to the Parsemain without the talented Nicolas de Preville, who is signing for Reims. They still have goals in them and could trouble Monaco, who don't have defender and captain Andreas Wolf. Les monegasques seem to prefer being on the road, but I think this is a tough match. They will appeal at odds-against, but play with caution. Tours are still shorn of Jeremy Blayac in attack, so they are quite unbackable at home, even if Dijon are very poor travellers. Both teams struggle for goals (Tours at home, Dijon away), so it'd be a surprise if they decide to let off the fireworks at a frosty Stade de la Vallee du Cher. Nimes, on the face of it, are quite an attractive price at home to Clermont, but as a poster above confirmed, they are missing a few regulars, especially in defence. Clermont are quietly rising up the table. A full-strength Nimes would beat them; the absences cloud my judgement though. Finally, if you were thinking of betting on Le Havre v Lens, don't bother. Lens are draw specialists and haven't lost since September. All good runs come to an end at some point, but at the same time, I wouldn't rush to back a Le Havre side still adapting to life under Eric Mombaerts.
