Re: Scottish football - 14-15 September It's the return of Friday night football in the SPL with Dundee United and Ross County kicking off the card at Tannadice. It's a match I'd expect United, even without Gary Mackay-Steven, to win, despite County's 36-game unbeaten league run. It's only a matter of time before the Staggies come unstuck, particularly on their travels. Even still, the -0.75 handicap on the Arabs is too short to contemplate. Overs is a possibility. United could quite comfortably cover that line on their own with their attackers but County have players who can hurt the hosts on the break. The O2.5 line is above evens and on my shortlist, although I'm yet to decide whether I'll strike. The stand-out bet at the moment for me is at McDiarmid Park. Celtic travel to Perth to face a St Johnstone team that haven't won since March. I know Neil Lennon's men have Champions League on Wednesday, but I chalked them up on a -1.5 line and they're currently sitting on a -1.25 line at a fair price. Celtic are marked down as a "green" bet for me at the moment and will be hit in some capacity. I'm looking for Motherwell away at Dundee, but the price is too short for me. As much as I fancy the Steelmen to win, Dundee have strengthened during the international break and did get a confidence-boosting win at Hearts last time out. I'd want a slither of draw protection on Stuart McCall's men and that price isn't there right now. Overs could be a shout too. It's one I'm weighing up. I think the bookies have made Hibs a bet on the -0.25 line at home to Kilmarnock, but one has a suspicion that the Hibees will falter at some point, while I think the juice in Aberdeen's price away to Inverness has gone. I'd want full draw cover at even money and right now, it's just not available. I'm surprised though to see Hearts 0AH available at above 1.85. The Jambos had a bad result at home to Dundee but there was a hangover from their Europa League tie with Liverpool to contend with. I expect them to be much fresher for a trip to Paisley against a Buddies side who always look capable of conceding goals. The Edinburgh side have to be of interest at the current market prices. Hopefully I'll be back with some cast-iron bets on game-day, but at the moment, here are my early predictions for this weekend's SPL card: Dundee United 3-1 Ross County (Over 2.5 goals shortlisted) St Johnstone 0-3 Celtic (Celtic -1.25 very likely to be hit) Dundee 1-2 Motherwell (Over 2.5 goals shortlisted) Hibernian 1-0 Kilmarnock (Hibernian -0.25 shortlisted) Inverness 0-1 Aberdeen (No bet at present) St Mirren 0-1 Hearts (Hearts 0AH shortlisted) I'm also going to be focusing and pricing up Division One this season. It's a much more volatile league, as most second tiers are, but one that commands my attention, as there are bets to be had. Cowedenbeath v Morton seems like a very trappy affair. The Blue Brazil have started very well this season, while Morton have been a little slow to hit their stride. I do expect the Ton to pick up now that their injury list is clearing up and I have the 0AH line under consideration in that one. That is one of the few bets in the division that I do have on the radar, as I suspect it'll be quite a difficult weekend for the punter. My strongest lean at the moment is on Dunfermline. They play Dumbarton, who for my money are way out of their depth in D1. The Pars will kick on after beating rivals Raith last time out and the minus, or indeed the overs, could be bets there. Hamilton host Falkirk, but that match is a real turn-off for me. Unders is probably a bet on paper, but I can't see myself hitting that right now. League leaders Partick are probably a bit short away at Livingston. That'll be a tough match and there's the potential for goals, so the O2.75 line merits though. Airdrie's trip to Raith doesn't though. Rovers are justifiably favourites, but I see no edge in that match. Division One predos are as follows. Hopefully some bets to come, but don't bank on it: Cowdenbeath 0-1 Morton (Morton 0AH under consideration) Dumbarton 1-4 Dunfermline (Dunfermline -1.25 and Over 3 goals shortlisted) Hamilton 0-0 Falkirk (Under 2.5 goals under consideration) Livingston 2-2 Partick Thistle (Over 2.75 goals under consideration) Raith Rovers 2-1 Airdrie Utd (No bet at present)

Re: Scottish football - 14-15 September St Johnstone v Celtic - Away Win 1.42 @ Betfair My thoughts at the start of this pretty strange SPL season was to pick and choose the Celtic games and lay into them as heavily as i could when feeling confident. After watching the first few games and especially the home match against Hibs, i'm now very worried about both the player's and manager's attitudes to League matches knowing it's pretty much won and now also the effect the bigger and much more lucrative Champions League games will have on the mindset. With this in mind and a home tie in midweek against Spartak i still feel very confident Celtic will get the job done up in Perth. Just read an article about St Johnstone missing 5 players from training on Thursday due to a virus and with the game coming early on Saturday it doesn't look good for most of that lot to recover in time. In the same article Steve Lomas pointed out his side's tough start to the season and while i agree the fixtures have been tough on them, 2 points from 5 games and a couple of beatings in the Europa League points to confidence not being too high at the the moment. Onto Celtic and as i touched on i'm very frustrated with both the resting of players (Wanyama taken of at HT against Hibs being the worst) and the general apathy shown which is only natural given the Rangers situation i suppose. One major plus is the strength in depth of this Celtic squad in particular up front where Tony Watt has be incredible and alongside Hooper, Stokes and Samaras and any two of those 4 should be enough to take care of most teams this season. So heavy bet on the away win for me with possible look at the -1 handicap closer to kick off if i like the look of the starting 11.

Re: Scottish football - 14-15 September Even though the O2.25 goal line in the United-County match continues to hold value, I've decided against hitting it tonight. As I said yesterday, Gary Mackay-Steven is missing for the hosts and he's one of their best creative players. They struggled to break St Johnstone down without him in their last match. Moreover, County have only gone over once this season, and that was a cup tie. Every other match has gone under. Of course, that trend will end soon, but without Mackay-Steven on the pitch, I'm happy to let that one lie.

Think your being a little bit harsh here, Celtic have been badly hampered by injuries so far this season with Brown, Ledley, Kayal, Stokes, McGeough all having faced spells on the sidelines. Wanyama came off after taking a knock against Hibs at half-time. Ultimately the main goal for Celtic this season was to get into the group stages of the CL for the prestige and money it would bring. We have achieved that and won all 4 CL qualifiers home and away against Helsinki and Helsinborgs and have added in the areas we needed to in the transfer market signing two strikers and a centre back. Its been a poor start to the league but it would have been madness to risk any players who were carrying knocks before big qualifiers. Anyway I too fancy Celtic and think tomorrow we can score a few goals. Apart from Samaras who is injured and Efe Ambrose who is not ready yet Celtic have a full pool to choose from and with new bhoys Miku Fedor and Lassad in line to make their debuts there should be a bit of a buzz within the camp and the away support. Celtic play Benfica, not Spartak on Wednesday night and I think everyone will want to go into that game with a win and good performance to be sure of their place in the starting XI. Celtic have good striking options now with Hooper & Tony Watt now being given a helping hand from Miku from Getafe and Lassad from Deportivo. At 2/5 Celtic look solid accumulator material and I think should cover the handicap also.

Three bets for me today across the top two divisions in Scotland: ST JOHNSTONE v CELTIC - Celtic -1.25AH @ 1.97 with 188bet I am very surprised that this line has not moved since I last wrote here. If anything, Celtic have become a bigger price. I suspect their Champions League tie next week has a part to play in that, but Neil Lennon will still field a strong side in Perth, one which is capable of defeating St Johnstone comfortably. The Saints are in a wretched rut right now. Manager Steve Lomas hasn't steered them to win since March. Part of the problem this season is that Francisco Sandaza and Jody Morris, two vital parts of the team, have left, and their void hasn't been filled. They aren't a strong threat in attack anymore and they sorely miss the bite and drive of Morris. With Scott Brown back to partner Victor Wanyama in midfield, I feel Celtic will dominate that part of the pitch. Celtic have the strikers to take chances; Gary Hooper's record speaks for itself, Tony Watt has flourished this season and Lassad, a deadline-day signing, may make his debut. I reckon Celtic will want to head into the Benfica match with momentum and a win under their belts, and they should get it against a St Johnstone side low on confidence, struck down by a virus and in the losing habit. ST MIRREN v HEARTS - Hearts 0AH @ 1.97 with 188bet I suspect the international break will have done Hearts the world of good. They were very unfortunate to lose to Dundee. You will not see a more one-sided match, yet Dundee nicked it with a penalty. I feel the Jambos could get back on the winning trail in Paisley against a very inconsistent St Mirren side. They have some very dangerous attacking players in Dougie Imrie, Kenny McLean, Paul McGowan and Steven Thompson, but it's at the back where I worry about them. Darrren McGregor is out with another knee injury, and that puts the emphasis on Lee Mair and Marc McAusland, who I can see being bullied by John Sutton and pulled around by the movement and pace of Andy Driver, Arvydas Novikovas and Ryan Stevenson. Furthermore, on the subject of Stevenson, I suspect his arrival may see Hearts revert closer to a 4-4-2, which will make them a far more potent side. They are solid at the back with a sturdy back four, and with a bit more attacking impetus, they could easily leave Renfrewshire with all the points. Good value, for me, with full draw cover. DUMBARTON v DUNFERMLINE - Dunfermline -1.5AH @ 2.20 with panbet Life in Division One has not been kind to Dumbarton. They made it up via the playoffs lasy season, so they are here on merit, but there's been little strengthening done to the squad to make them especially competitive at this level. Their captain, Andy Graham, is likely to miss this match, which is a blow considering their threadbare squad is already without Chris Turner, Kevin Nicol and Pat Walker. Dunfermline, under the ersthwhile and shrewd Jim Jefferies, are one of the stronger sides in the league. They got a confidence-boosting 3-1 win over Raith in the Fife derby last time out and with the majority of their better players back in the side, I expect them to far too strong for the Sons. They could take this by a couple of goals.

Re: Scottish football - 14-15 September Strong Celtic team and Miku makes his debut

Forster; Lustig, Wilson, Mulgrew, Izaguirre; Forrest, Wanyama, Brown, Commons; Hooper, Miku As posted above Celtic should have too much and there was a virus running through the St Johnstone camp during the week with training cancelled. Think Celtic will want to finish this as soon as possible to bring some key players off before Benfica on Wednesday. Celtic -1 @ 6/5 Ladbrokes
