I tend to follow certain jockeys/courses, trainers in form & last time out winners. I cannot post every day (no access at work) so will try to post in the midweek evenings & of course Sat & Sun are no probs. Tomorrow, as it's the 1st day of the flat & rather excitedly, I have chosen 4 horses. 1.50 Archie Babe won this last year & is rideen by the best jock in this race by a streak. Believe me, Sam Hitchcott will be a major player this year if he still gets the rides once he loses his claim. He cannot claim in this race but he is worth the 5lb others are claiming. Drawn in 18 not great but over 1m 4f against apprentices, I think Sam can weave his magic. 2.20 Doctorate is ridden by Kevin Darley. Top jockey on these northern tracks for years now. Kevin is expected to get a flyer at this meeting & this is an interesting newcomer for Ed Dunlop. 1 race last May finished 4th behind Old Deutronomy (one of A O'briens) at Newmarket. Breeding shows it will stay a mile easily & act on the ground. Well drawn in 5 out of 17 over the mile. 3.25 Artie has only won 2 of 25 starts but has been placed on another 10 occasions showing that it is normally up there in the finish. Acts on any ground. Darley riding for Easterby has to be followed at these tracks. Was fav for class B handicaps last term, this is class C & definitely within its range. 4.30 Indian Call Ok this could be anything. You have to respect Brian McMahon at this stage of the year especially on the softer ground. His horses are always fit & this one interests me. Could be a nice price. Have not seen any prices as yet but my staking plan will be 10pts per betting day: Archie Babe 1.5pts ew Doctorate 2pts win Artie 2pts ew Indian Call 0.5pts ew Tempted to probably play up some yankee or something but for staking purposes I am doing only singles all year. Particularly a former easy winner Antonio Canova - off for over one year but blistering form before. Quite a few with good chances.
