I am a level stakes punter as it is my (possible outdated) belief that if a system or selections don't make a level stakes profit, they will end up lsing at some point. The thought of having 5 points on a 7/4 winner and only 1 point on a 12/1 winner fills me with dread!! At the moment, I bet around 2% of my betting bank on every selection and reasses at the end of the year or sometimes in October when I find myself betting alot less. I'm reasonably comfortable with this but am playing too conservitively sometimes and maybe this would be altered if I was betting only 1% of my bank. What do other people do? I mean presumably the vast majority of us have a bank set aside for betting - but how much(as a percentage) do you bet on any selection? Look forward to hearing some thoughts....

Re: Staking..... ive built my bank up over many years and currently bet 1/500th of my betting bank and i recalculate after every bet .that way losing liabliltys are reduced and winning streaks can be maximised ......it always seems to work for me .im not a big fan of level stakes as i think if i have a horse at 10pts clear at 6/1 and place 2 pts to win 12 then the same horse 10pts clear at 7/4 only pays 4pts so id go 4pts on the latter ........i aim mainly at trying to get a decent return in points based on the risk of the bet so i know that my strike rate is fairly good so if i can get back 11 pts by placing 4pts on a 7/4 then that effectively gives me the next 7 bets at 1pt each and 1 good winner at say 16-20/1 can then see your bank fly forward .im constantly rating risk against how ive been performing and if ive had say 6 losers recently i know then that statistically i have a high probabilty that one of the next few horses will win so i tend to increase stakes so a 1pt bet then becomes a 2pt bet and then a winner at say 8/1 ..2pts win returns 18 pts and your laughing again ......you could have had 8 straight losers 1,1,1,1,1,1,2,2,2 -10 pts then you return 18 pts and your back on the trail ,without that stake alteration id have still been on a loss ......happy days !!!
