World Championship Qualifiers

Recommended Posts

The qualifying event for the upcoming World Championship begins in full on Saturday and goes on for just over a week. With betting on all matches and live streaming on two matches a session on the world snooker live streaming console or bookmakers live streaming console there should be plenty of stuff to get stuck into.

Re: World Championship Qualifiers

Kurt Maflin was always a very good junior - how has he progressed? Could be a decent price, but I know nothing of his opponent.
Maflin hasn't really established himself to be honest. He's been relegated off the pro tour 3 times (most recently at the end of last season, but he requalified immediately through the Q School) and he hasn't made a venue this season, though he will stay on the tour this time via the PTC order of merit. Cao Yupeng is only 21 and in his first full season. He hasn't done much and won't stay on the tour unless he qualifies for the Crucible, but he did beat Maflin 5-4 in the China Open qualifiers in February. Maflin has won their only other two meetings back in 2011 though. I'd say the price is about right on this one and it's probably best avoided. :ok

Re: World Championship Qualifiers Three for me in the matches which begin in the morning. Milkins vs Guodong and Davis vs Woollaston are the live streamed matches. 4pts A.Hamilton to beat A.McGill 4/5 BetVictor I'm surprised the Sheriff is as big as 4/5 in this match because in truth the difference in ability at this level between these two players is quite big. Hamilton more than knows his way around a 12x6 snooker table and when he is given a chance he knows exactly how to take it and over the course of 19 frames you have to think he will take the majority of his chances. I guess one of the reasons why Hamilton is 4/5 in this match is because Anthony McGill won 10-0 in his last qualifying match earlier in the week against Adam Wicheard. That was a good win but you would think McGill would be more tested in this match so he will need to improve again. He's yet to make it to the final stages of a tournament this season and has only made the final qualifying round once which suggests this could be the Scot's level. Anthony Hamilton has walked into a couple of excellent Joe Perry performances and a Tom Ford in top form in final qualifying matches for tournaments since he made the Shanghai Masters where he actually made it all the way to the quarter finals with a win over Stephen Maguire and Ronnie O'Sullivan along the way. He made the semi finals of PTC11 earlier in the season too which shows Hamilton has played well over the course of the season and he can go one step away from the Crucible with a win in the battle of the Anthony's. 3pts J.Wattana to beat G.Greene 6/4 Stan James James Wattana is a strange case in that most of his best form this season came early in the season when he made it to a couple of PTC finals days and all the way to the Shanghai Masters main event. He lost in that tournament to Ronnie O'Sullivan but Gerard Greene is no Ronnie O'Sullivan. Wattana also made it into the German Masters where he lost to Graeme Dott in the first round but again Greene is no Dott. Any fears that Wattana had shot his load this season were allayed when he beat the improving Li Yan in the last qualifying round 10-6 which was a very good win indeed. Gerard Greene is yet to qualify for an actual tournament this season so far and he's only won a qualifier in three of the seven events there have been so far. He clearly isn't in any form at all and if Wattana can play how he did in the last match and early on in the season when he has an excellent chance here at 6/4. 3pts X.Guodong to beat R.Milkins 6/5 Paddy Power This match won't last long whichever way it ends up going. Both these players like to attack and get on with it and both score heavily when they are in amongst the balls. Robert Milkins always has that erratic side to his game and even though he made the semi finals of the World Open last month I still think he's vulnerable here. Milkins has never been the best tactically either and if his safety goes wrong in this match the Chinese youngster will punish him. Xiao scores as heavy as anyone in the game right now and he beat Judd Trump in fine style in the PTC finals last month which shows he's more than capable. Guodong banged in a 140 in the previous round of this qualifying tournament so he must be cueing well and I think he can take a step closer to a Crucible debut with a win over a talented but all too often erratic and inconsistent Robert Milkins.

Re: World Championship Qualifiers 3pts - I Figueiredo to beat J Jogia @ 6/4 with Paddy Power I don't usually get involved with qualifying stages, but I've watched a fair bit on the live streams this week and this price is just plain wrong for me. Due to financial issues, this is Igor Figueiredo's first tournament since September's Brazilian Masters (where he saw off Jamie Cope 4-1 before losing to Graeme Dott), but he played on the pro circuit last season and did enough to requalify this season via the PTC Order of Merit. He's come into the World Championship with nothing to lose, as he isn't going to maintain his place on the tour for next season, and so the pressure is off in many ways. A comfortable win over amateur Jamie O'Neill has been followed up with 2 tight victories, 10-8 over Andrew Norman and 10-9 against Liu Song, so he's had plenty of opportunity to get used to the longer format. This is Jogia's first qualifying match and it's worth pointing out that he hasn't recorded a win over a fellow professional since beating Alfie Burden 4-3 in PTC 9 at the start of November. Since then he's lost 8 straight matches against fellow pros, his sole victory coming against the amateur Mitchell Travis in a deciding frame in PTC 12 (December). He's also been struggling with a leg injury that caused him to miss the Shootout and comes into this match in decidedly ropey form. For me, given the circumstances, this match should be priced closer to evens the pair (possibly with Jogia as slight favourite, but no more), so there's heaps of value in siding with the Brazilian to keep his run going.

Re: World Championship Qualifiers Anthony Hamilton finally saved the day there after I came a cropper in yet another deciding frame :wall. -2.8pts for Wednesday. 3 for Thursday. 4pts J.White to beat L.Chuang 10/11 Boylesports Jimmy White will be desperate to win this match to take himself a step nearer to getting back to the Crucible after so long away from the famous venue and I think he can beat the Chinese youngster here. White has been putting in a lot of practice ahead of this match and we saw the fruits of that in the China Open last month when he gave Judd Trump a real good game and was unlucky not to win really. Liu Chuang came through a pull your hair out match with Rod Lawler to take his place in this match on Tuesday but sometimes when you have matches like that where you can't get a rhythm you struggle in your next match. Jimmy will be extra motivated to win this match because Chuang beat him in the qualifying for the World Championship last year. White has played a lot better in recent weeks though and comes into the event in the better form and I think he'll set up a final showdown with Jamie Cope for a Crucible place. 3pts A.Burden to beat J.Lisowski 11/8 Boylesports Alfie Burden is still knocking around and I think he's got every chance in this match because his opponent Jack Lisowski has had a pretty poor season by his strong standards. I don't know if Lisowski is feeling the heat of being talked of as the next big star or if he thought after last season he had cracked it and didn't put the work in. It could even be that he's feeling the weight of pressure to perform having seen what his flatmate Judd Trump has done over the last 12 months. Whatever it is he hasn't played well all season. Alfie Burden had a good win over David Grace to make it this far. Burden only lost out on a place in the Welsh Open in a deciding frame to Michael Holt who was in excellent form at that time and he beat Lisowski 5-1 in the World Open qualifiers earlier in the season before losing in the final qualifying round of that tournament too. Although he hasn't reached a venue yet he's been knocking on the door and given how heavily he scores when he is given the opportunity I think 11/8 is a bit too big on the Londoner in this one. 3pts A.Duffy to beat J.Burnett 23/20 Boylesports If Jack Lisowski is faltering under the pace set by Judd Trump another one of Trump's mates certainly isn't because Adam Duffy is playing some excellent snooker this season. Duffy only missed out in qualifying for the Welsh Open in the final qualifying round and was a bit unlucky to run into a rampant Xiao Guodong in the qualifying for the China Open. However he's put that behind him to beat Lucky Vatnani 10-2 and Adrian Gunnell 10-8 this week already. Jamie Burnett has been close to non existant this season. He hasn't made a single final event this season yet and hasn't really threatened too even when he's made it to the final qualifying stage. There's little doubt about who will be the most confident coming into this match. Adam Duffy can definitely play too. He has a 4-0 win over Mark Selby in a PTC event earlier in the season to his name and Selby is one who takes the PTC's seriously as well so that's a fantastic result. Duffy put in a 123 break against Gunnell in the last round and playing like that he can beat Jamie Burnett on Thursday.

Re: World Championship Qualifiers Another poor day for me on Thursday. Let's start to put that right with a couple to begin with on Saturday. 4pts R.Milkins to beat M.Davis 6/5 BetVictor This price on Robert Milkins is a little bit too big. I mentioned ahead of the previous round how he can be inconsistent but there was no sign of that against Xiao Guodong. Milkins rattled in a 147 and countless other high breaks in an emphatic win and if he brings that form with him to this match then Mark Davis has a tough match on his hands. Davis is one of those players who I believe is better as an underdog than an outsider and while he has a good game in him he does seem to be struggling with the pressure of trying to break into the top 16. Robert Milkins made it to the semi finals of the World Open not long ago so is in good form and I think at 6/5 he's worth chancing against Mark Davis here. 4pts K.Doherty to beat A.Hamilton Evs Skybet Bookmakers might be struggling to split these but I'm not. I backed Anthony Hamilton in the last round and it took him an absolute age to get rid of Anthony McGill in a match which obviously got scrappy. Hamilton didn't score like we know he can and I'm not sure if he can beat Doherty in this match if he doesn't score well. Doherty has made a career out of winning frames which go scrappy and that will be his comfort zone in this match. Doherty has been in decent enough form in the qualifying events this season too. His problem has been performing when he gets there but that's for another day. Having won the title 15 years ago Doherty will be eager to make sure he's back at the party this time around too and at even money I think he's a decent enough bet to prevail in this one.
