Re: England > Johnstones Paint Trophy > Tuesday 6th December I don't know much about this competition, but here the latest news:ok Oldham Athletic vs Bradford City Oldham will be without Dean Furman for Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy northern section semi-final against Bradford. Furman collected his fifth booking of the season in Saturday's 1-1 FA Cup second-round draw at Southend. On-loan Norwich youngster Tom Adeyemi is expected to take the 23-year-old's place in the Latics engine room. Fellow midfielder Chris Taylor also has a chance of being involved, although boss Paul Dickov will continued to treat his hamstring injury with caution. Taylor limped out of the npower League One stalemate at Bournemouth and was absent from the matchday squad against Southend. Centre-back Zander Diamond came off with after 15 minutes against Paul Sturrock's men with a knee injury. The Scot's problem is not as back as first feared, but Nathan Clarke is ready to step into the heart of the defence if required. Bradford are short of midfielders as both Michael Flynn and Ricky Ravenhill are unavailable. Flynn sits out a one-game ban under the totting up procedure following his yellow card for time wasting in the weekend FA Cup win over AFC Wimbledon. Ravenhill, a recent loan signing from Notts County, has already played for his parent club earlier in the competition. Fellow midfielders Chris Mitchell and Ritchie Jones are both struggling with illness and so manager Phil Parkinson could hand a first start of the season to Luke Moore, a late substitute against Wimbledon. Midfielder Kyel Reid, goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin and winger Jack Compton all featured on Saturday after shaking off the bug that has badly affected Parkinson's squad over the last seven days. Parkinson has no other new injury or suspension problems for the northern section semi-final as his side looks to register their fourth straight away win in the competition. Preston North End vs Chesterfield Preston forward Iain Hume is in contention to end his injury lay-off in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy northern section semi-final against Chesterfield. Hume has been sidelined with a knee injury since North End's 3-1 defeat to Huddersfield in October. Any involvement for the Canadian striker is likely to be from the bench, with boss Phil Brown rating his chances as 50/50. Experienced midfield duo Graham Alexander and Ian Ashbee could also return for the match. Alexander was absent from last Tuesday's 1-0 win at Hartlepool due to a hamstring stain, but completed a full training session on Tuesday, while Ashbee is making good progress with his knee complaint. Goalkeeper Iain Turner has returned to light training after suffering a broken foot, but Thorsten Stuckmann - Preston's hero in their penalty shoot-out victory over Rochdale in the previous round - will continue between the posts. Chesterfield have been dealt an injury blow with the news that midfielder Mark Randall could be out for up to six weeks after breaking a bone in his left hand. Randall suffered the injury whilst playing for the reserves in a Central League Cup fixture against Port Vale last Tuesday. The 22-year-old will undergo an operation this week. Manager John Sheridan will also be without defender Jonathan Grounds and midfielder Lee Johnson after they returned to Middlesbrough and Bristol City respectively following the end of their loan spells at the b2net Stadium. However, Derek Niven is available after the midfielder returned from his loan spell at Northampton. Veteran striker Jack Lester is likely to be involved again after he made his comeback from almost three months out with a broken arm with a late substitute appearance during the home defeat to rivals Sheffield United nine days ago. That was the last time the Spireites were in action, having gone out of the FA Cup at the first-round stage. Full-back Scott Griffiths made his second debut for the club against the Blades after returning on loan from Peterborough and he is likely to keep his place in the side at Deepdale. Preston won the League One fixture between the two sides at the b2net Stadium 2-0 in August. Source: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/scores/_/league/eng.trophy/english-johnstones-paint-trophy?cc=5739

Re: England > Johnstones Paint Trophy > Tuesday 6th December Barnet vs Brentford Michael Hector is available for Barnet's Johnstone's Paint Trophy semi-final against Brentford. The teenage centre-half's initial loan spell from Reading expired after Saturday's FA Cup defeat by MK Dons, but he has now signed a new deal until January 2. Ricky Holmes appeared as a substitute at the weekend after a month out with a knee injury and he could start, while fellow striker Gavin McCallum returns to the squad after being cup-tied. Defender Daniel Leach is fit after a tendon injury but he is set to play for the reserves on Monday night. Fellow centre-half Darren Dennehy remains on the sidelines with a calf injury and forward Steve Kabba is a long-term absentee with a knee problem. Jake Bidwell could be handed his Brentford debut. The young defender recently joined the Bees on loan from Everton but was denied permission to play in the FA Cup against Wrexham on Saturday. Boss Uwe Rosler said he will make changes following the shock 1-0 defeat to the non-leaguers so Marcel Eger, Niall McGinn and Clayton Donaldson are pushing for recalls after they were rested. Defender Karleigh Osborne (foot) and midfielder Harry Forrester (hamstring) are back in training after spells on the sidelines but club captain Kevin O'Connor (foot) will be out for a couple of months. Back-up goalkeeper Conor Devlin on Monday left the club after his short-term contract expired. Southend United vs Swindon Town Mark Phillips and Michael Timlin will miss Southend`s Johnstone`s Paint Trophy southern section semi-final against Swindon. Centre-back Phillips and midfielder Timlin both picked up their fifth bookings of the season in Saturday`s 1-1 FA Cup draw against Oldham and now serve one-match suspensions. Timlin, however, would have been ineligible in any case under the terms of his loan from the Robins which runs until January. Winger Jemal Johnson remains suspended by the Essex club pending an internal investigation into his off-field behaviour, while striker Barry Corr and midfielder Harry Crawford (both knee) are long-term absentees. Should Southend see off Paolo Di Canio`s side at Roots Hall then they will set a new 18-match unbeaten club record, and also move to within touching distance of a trip to Wembley with only a two-legged area final against either Barnet or Brentford standing in their way. Swindon will welcome back striker Jake Jervis. The on-loan Birmingham hitman was not eligible for the Robins in their 1-0 victory over Colchester in the FA Cup second round on Saturday, as his parent club barred him from playing. However, Jervis is available for selection against the Shrimpers and could make an immediate return to the starting line-up. Fellow forwards Mehdi Kerrouche and Lukas Magera are likely to be rested, meaning Alan Connell and Ronan Murray will be vying for a spot up top with the 20-year-old. Swindon are hoping midfielder Simon Ferry will have recovered from illness to take part at Roots Hall, with Oliver Risser set to miss out if the Scot shrugs off the bug that forced him to sit out the game at the weekend. Manager Paolo Di Canio has said he will make changes to cope with the hectic schedule his team are dealing with at present, and there could be a recall for winger Lander Gabilondo on Tuesday. Defenders Joe Devera (ankle) and Alberto Comazzi are not expected to feature. Source: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/scores/_/league/eng.trophy/english-johnstones-paint-trophy?cc=5739

Re: England > Johnstones Paint Trophy > Tuesday 6th December Barnet - Brentford - 2 0AH - 1.6 @ Will Hill - both teams lost on Saturday in the cup and will try to make up for it tonight. Brentford look very good on the road in the league and they look like they're taking this competition seriously - they have already beaten Charlton and Bournemouth with 3:0 and 6:0 scorelines respectively. They play a league above Barnet and although I expect the scoreline to be closer than in previous Brentford's matches I think they will be to strong for Barnet and progress to the semis.

Re: England > Johnstones Paint Trophy > Tuesday 6th December Bradford look good value at 5.0. Although they are a division lower than Oldham, they have a good record in this competition, last round winning away at Sheffield United. I've also noticed you tend to get a lot of away wins in this competition.
