Razor Royale dies after gallops accident By David Baxter 2:39PM 16 NOV 2011 RAZOR ROYALE, winner of the 2010 Racing Post Chase, has been put down after breaking a leg on the gallops on Tuesday. The nine-year-old, trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies and owned by Chris Cornes, had returned to action at Ascot last month when second to Exmoor Ranger in the Grade 3 United House Gold Cup at Ascot, and was being readied for the Hennessy at Newbury. Twiston-Davies, speaking at Warwick on Wednesday said: "He broke a hind leg on the gallops on Tuesday morning. He was being prepared for the Hennessy and was just doing a routine bit of work when the accident happened. "I'm devastated, he was one of my best horses. He was a brilliant servant and it's such a shame."
Real shame, always gave his best, just shows how fragile these great big animals are I suppose.

I heard this yesterday. It was sad because when I got back into racing 4/5 years ago he was one of the first horses i latched on to, him and Souffleur, I think they were novice hurdling at the time RIP RR Someone said recently of horses that from the moment they're born their main purpose in life is to commit suicide. I suppose the highly evolved 'flight response' ensures the survival of the species but comprises the chances of any given individual
