caber tosser
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship hello fellow punters i started last year of with a flyer backing appleby this year its weir (33/1) and johnson (50/1) the wind wil be a main factor as always i think the big guns will not be firing so early remember they are on the island for two weeks with the sony to follow this event in the match betting oppose garcia
BillyHills
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship I take Ernie Els,(11/2) has all the credentials, long hitter, always plays well early in year, likes the course, can play the wind (although forecast quite good), and usually plays well when up against Tiger and Vijay. Had a bit of 22/1 E/W Mike Wier to be top International player, another player who is good early season, has played well the 4 times he's played here. Nice to have the Golf back lads. edtkh
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship I am not entirely certain about how the tournament will pan out, but clearly a few first round 2 ball bets are worth a look. 8 pts Woods-Singh 2 ball double (2.00 - Ladbrokes) Woods should have little problem outwitting Slocum so long as his mind doesn't start wandering and keep up the form which saw him end last year on a high. Similarly, I like the look of Singh to outscore Kaye for pretty much the same reasons as I fancy Woods to beat Slocum - both men are a class above their opponents and they shouldn't have much trouble getting the better of them even if they remain in second gear. :hope
keyser soze
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship wind is around 8 mph which isnt an issue this week. may be next week. best of the two balls, definitely geiberger in the first at 1.93 ()evens yesterday at hills :clap ). should be around 1.6 best 72H is hensby to beat chad campbell at 2.1 Corals. also the big 3 v the field at betfair is actually value on the 3 side rather than the field at around 1.
Ra1nmaker
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship Like the look of Weir to beat Daly (1.87 @Betfair) in a 1st round match bet. Sloping fairways and course layout make accuracy off the tee more important than length (well except at the 660+ yard 18th). Big John could find himself in a few awkward places off the tee and I don’t think he’ll be patient enough, fit enough or motivated enough at this early season event. giberto silva
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship hi all, i think Cink will be in with a good each way shout. being the 1st tourney, no real form figures to go on as its been silly season time(except if you look to australian tour), thus i'm going for cink. best putter in the field must always be in with a good run, and admittedly no course form for him, he should be a decent 33s chance. out of the big three, i agree with els, he's got such good course form, you can't bet against him. It certainly makes good sense to back him now, then lay him back later on IMO. ;)
Ra1nmaker
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship Ist Round Weir - Greens in Reg 94% with 33 Puts, score 70 Daly - Greens in Reg 83% with 31 puts, score 70 but the interesting stat is that John's driving was only 53% accuracy, ave 264.5 yards, 30th out of 31 in driving distance. Did he forget his Driver or something!! So even though he wasn't accurate or long of the tee Daly was able to get it the green 83% of the time (Tied 13th). 2nd Round My feelings are he won't be that patient and fortunate again, and even if he is surely Mike will get the putter going now he had a feel for the greens. Weir to beat Daly 1.89 @Betfair
edtkh
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship Actually, I quite fancy Singh to win this and 3.00 after R1 is certainly worth a look. :eek He's simply flying at the moment and I'd find it hard for Woods to stop him should he carry on from where he left off in R1. Looking at the way things are going, I really wouldn't fancy Els for this if he doesn't make a marked improvement in R2 and come within 2 strokes of the leader (whoever that may be) tourney as he's normally among those who'd be flying off the traps in season-opening events. That aside, it's off to the 2 ball bettings for Round 2. 8 pts Goosen to beat Toms (1.80 - Ladbrokes) Goosen isn't exactly known to get off to a flyer in the opening rounds and if he plays to his potential, Toms really shouldn't run him close here. 10 pts Singh to beat Parry (1.40 - Ladbrokes) Given the sort of form Singh is in, I just can't imagine anyone running Singh close, much less Parry. Parry's got nothing to prove he's anywhere close to giving Singh a match and his 'one-day wonder' performance aside clearly isn't an accurate basis to suggest he could keep up that level of performance over the next 3 days. Those aside, I think backing the Tie for BOTH Woods and Els (3 points) may reap some rewards as neither have been overly convincing in their opening rounds. Slocum is no mug and he'd just lost by a stroke to Woods in R1 so with the pressure of having a top 3 for a playing partner in R1 to boot, he should run Ernie close IMO. Similarly, Kaye should prove to be a formidable foe to Woods considering he managed to hit a round of 5-under-par 68 despite playing in the presence of Singh. If Woods is not at the top of his game, anything could well happen. So long as one comes in, you'd well expect a pretty tidy profit with 4 times your combined stake back. stereoman
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship I've put £25 on Stuart Appleby at 4/1 in-running on Betfair. It's ridiculous odds. He's 4 strokes ahead of Vijay Singh (6th hole) and 5 ahead of Ernie Els (6th hole). Appleby's got 11 holes left to play and he's done well in the back nine in the past three rounds. I'm going to get a good run for my money whatever happens.
stereoman
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship Can I be more of a dozy chump?! I'm reading the fooking total score (and I got that wrong as well). They're all tied in first place! :o
stereoman
Appleby wins! This dozy chump got lucky. Very, very lucky. Shame, I also put a saver bet on Jonathan Kaye really, also in-running but that's a very nice way to 'round off the week in what was a horrible few days for me. 25/1? Appleby? Good Lord! :eek
caber tosser
Re: Golf -Mercedes Championship well guys i drew a blank with my initial selections weir & johnson on saturday i was checking my football scores and noticed on 365 that appleby was 100/1 1/5 a place first three had a couple of quid on it just for the interest as they say the rest is history the wind did play a major factor on the end result along with mistakes by some of the players :beer
