  1. Re: Post Race Analysis As regards the July Cup I thought War Artist was a bit unlucky again. He ran well at Royal Ascot and then yesterday he was stuck in the middle of the track and ran a solid race again. I think with a bit more luck with the draw he is still capable of landing a decent prize.

  2. Re: Post Race Analysis

It would take an immense amount of staffing to do it for every race. It takes a lot of work just to do pre-race analysis' date=' but to do post race analysis you have to watch the race several times focussing on one or two runners each time. I'm not surprised SL only do it for the big races.[/quote'] Some meetings would obviously be easier than others. You only need one person per meeting and maybe two or three for the likes of Cheltenham and Royal Ascot to do it more in depth. Not really that difficult to do at all. Ive seen the race readers at work and they can get their job done in between each race.
  3. Re: Post Race Analysis

The Life have been doing those post race analysis for some time now' date=' but they only do selected races.[/quote'] That will be why I havent noticed it then. In my opinion you either do it for all races or you may as well not bother at all.
  4. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011

These stages are actually the ones that I've found most profitable over the years. The favourite is always double digits and based on GC time' date=' stage profile and rider abilities it's much easier to find value. I just haven't found it this year![/quote'] Each to there own I personnaly think its a little bit like finding a needle in a haystack so thats why I leave alone most of the time. If it is double digits the field then that tells you how hard it is.
  5. Re: Post Race Analysis That must be a new thing from the Sporting Life as Ive never noticed them do that before. Obviously the Racing Post have always done it. Always best though if youve watched the race to make up your own mind on whats happened and act accordingly in future races. As mowgli says people can have different opinions on races.

  6. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011 I think its really hard to find the winners on stages like this. Yes if you manage to get lucky you get paid off and you dont have to find many to make it pay but in my view there are easier ways to make money on the Tour.

  7. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011

He went down in the same crash that took out both Wiggins and Horner. Was never really a chance to get back into the main field and was about 3mins behind when the sprint took place.
Cheers for that I didnt get to see the crash either. Like you say it seemed odd to bring everyone back for Wiggins especially when he didnt even carry on.
  8. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011 Yeah it is a massive shame for Wiggins as I was really looking forward to see how he would get on this year. HTC were superb today it was clear Cav was going to win from a long way out. Interesting Pettachi managed to get involved today. What happened to Farrar? I had no sound on the pics so wasnt able to hear anything that was said.

  9. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011

The guy on Eurosport gave the wrong winner again' date=' the guy who I just read has won wasn't the guy he said as they went over the line??[/quote'] Cav touched a high of 50 on Betfair in the closing stages on Wednesday thanks to the Eurosport commentator making that mistake. I was watching ITV so I knew what was going on and to be honest its pretty poor that a British guy cant recognise Cav.
  10. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011

Today's stage reminds me how much the first week of the tour has improved. It used to be too predictable and repetitive when the finishes were all flat; I think it's a far better watch with all the variety now. We already know a lot about the riders' relative capabilities in a flat sprint, and that's reflected in the odds. It's hard to find much value at this stage. Cav's a worthy favourite IMO, but I wouldn't be shocked if Farrar took it down. There may be a shade of value in Feillu or Rojas for places (I think that's because, preposterously, there's still money for Petacchi), but nothing to write home about. One other thought: was it a mistake to back Brajkovic (or any GC or KOM contender) before the tour? I mean, Crouch Potato made a good (but unlucky) bet getting the early odds on Brajkovic, but once the odds have stabilised, is it a better strategy to wait a week or so before betting?
But Id imagine he probably got shorter as he gained a bit of time over some of his rivals. If I had of chosen to I could have layed of my bet on Schelck after the TTT because he was much shorter. I guess sometimes it pays to wait but you never know whats going to happen on the Tour as this week has proven and sometimes it works in your favour and other times it doesnt.
  11. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011 Ive backed Rojas at 9/4 with Stan James to win the Green Jersey as I think he is the main opposition to Cav and is a hell of a lot shorter with everyone else. He is a better sprinter than Gilbert and I just wonder how high Gilbert is going to be able to finish at the end of stages now.

  12. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011 Well I think that crash has cost a fair few of us a bit of money. Such a shame that as it would have been good to see how he would have got on in the mountains. I think its pretty much the first time Ive backed someone whose ended up crashing out. Also if something isnt done about that sprint then they clearly do have something against Cav.

  13. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011 If anyone is having a bet on tomorrows stage I suggest you do it with Skybet. Not only are they top price about Cav if you fancy him but they are also betting 1/4 odds the first 4. Ive backed Farrar e/w at 4/1 as I see it as a very low risk bet.

  14. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011

And despite my lost hagen bet' date=' lots of credit to hushovd, excellent ride, still I believe that first week became less exciting without bonifications for the top 3, I expect Thor to keep yellow until at least Saturday, possibly longer[/quote'] But the yellow jersey isnt that important at the moment and they havent had time bounses for a while though and I dont see it makes much difference. I couldnt care less who had the jersey at the moment and if Thor keeps it until Saturday then so be it. As for tomorrow Cav is a top price of even money. Given the form he showed on Monday all things being equal he should win pretty easily but Im happy to let him win again given the bets I already have on him.
  15. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011 Well Ive got Frank covered anyway as he was too big in the market without the big 2. I cant beleive Andy is now a bigger price than he was at the start that just seems crazy to me. As for Evans Im really not sure what he will be like when it gets to the big mountains and he is making a lot of efforts in this first week.

  16. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011 It seems Boasson Hagen was helping Wiggins down the road. To be fair to the commentators Id imagine everyone saw a Sky rider and thought that it was Boasson Hagen. These sorts of climbs dont really seem to suit Schleck so Im not really worried that he lost 8 seconds. Interestingly though Frank didnt wait to help him.

  17. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011

At 25-1 I wasn't sure the 1min 30 was enough to back him' date=' but now that his team basically came dead last in the time trial and his quote is at 41, the value becomes too strong to ignore IMO.[/quote'] He was 33s at the start of the Tour which was the price I was talking about.
  18. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011 They said yesterday on Eurosport that yesterdays stage was the first Gilbert hadnt won in about 70 odd days racing so on that basis he his a fantastic bet to win todays stage. Ive got to say though that on a finish like this I wouldnt be prepared to back someone that short as you can see more people going for the win and it might catch him out. For me at this stage Im sitting out but at the same time if you forced me into a bet I would stick it on Gilbert to win. Told you he was over priced Crouch. I guess Im going to have to back him myself now as Id be annoyed if he were to win and I hadnt backed him.

  19. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011 If HTC had of got that better then Cav would have hacked up judgeing by the ground he made up in the closing stages. It seems it never goes quite right for him on the first sprint stage. I get the feeling Pettacchi wont be around for too much longer he appears to be in stinking form.

  20. Re: Cycling 2011 - Tour de France 2011 I think this Cav not winning the first sprint of the Tour is rather misleading. In his first Tour he crashed on the run in to Canterbury and last year he mis judged a corner so its not as if he is getting out sprinted. Given on what he did at the intermediate sprint all things being equal he should be winning, but given Ive backed him already for stage wins and the green jersey there is no need for me to get involved at this short odds.
