  1. Re: Oooops !

Why would you transfer money into your poker wallet if you knew about the system change? Clearly your money was not safe in the Poker wallet if this was the case. PM me your Ladbrokes username and we'll see if we can get that sorted for you.
Thanks for the offer Aidymac , I don't think I have much of a leg to stand on , I placed the bet seconds before the off , my sensitive mouse must have inadvertently clicked confirm. I wouldn't have asked for a void bet had it won. Had I made the mistake a few minutes earlier , I would have offset the bet by backing the rest of the field or laid it on Bet.fair. I hopefully won't be making the same mistake again. Also I didn't realise money would be taken from my poker account if I was short in my sports wallet.
  2. I had a free afternoon so decided to have an all day bender in front of the computer. Gambling is one of my vices , but luckily my current job sees me starting work at 12pm meaning I cannot bet on the horses unless I bet before I start work. Being a recovering gambler ( unsuccesfully ) I try to keep my stakes to a minimum. Anyway during the course of the afternoon I backed a few winners and slowly increased my stakes. Whilst betting I was surfing the net and realised I only had a minute to bet on my next selection, I quickly brought up the card to bet £36 , but mistakenly bet £366. The bet lost , I was pi55ed off that it lost , but more pi55ed off at Ladbrokes for allowing me to bet beyond by balance. I had around £200 in my Ladbrokes sports balance which was all used up , the system took the rest from my Ladbrokes Poker balance this is bullsheet , Ladbrokes have in the last few weeks upgraded their system , this new feature is designed to benefit themselves not punters. I regularly transfer money over to my Ladbrokes poker account to prevent myself from going silly.Initially I was going to complain , but after a coffee I came to my senses and saw it it will not get me anywhere. I have mentioned this before on here , but many years ago when online betting came on the scene and the systems were very slow , I mistakenly bet a 4 figure sum instead of a 3 figure sum simply because the screen was a few seconds behind the keyboard , that time i was lucky but most times it will go against you. Punters be careful !

  3. Re: The Jockey Thread

I have been watching Hughes more closely of late' date=' and although I had a different opinion in the past, I agree with ye.[/quote'] We had a few arguments over this in the past, I'm glad you now see where we are coming from.
  4. Re: What do you love about racing? I enjoy seeing the smaller trainers and owners succeed. It puts a smile on my face when I see a lesser known jockey like Saleem Golam or Danny Tudhope win a race especially a big televised Saturday afternoon race. I said a couple of years ago that David O'Mera was destined to become a top 20 trainer. Last year he proved me right just creeping into the top 20, at one point he was in the top 10. This is a great achievement, from memory, I think he achieved this with no Group race success, all the other had won Group races. I have a feeling he will once again get in the top 20, but this year he will have a Group winner. He's already attracted several big owners, it's just a matter of time before some of the Middle Eastern owners send him some decent horses.

  5. Re: The Jockey Thread

I could throttle Richard Hughes sometimes. 8:05 Windsor on Kuda Huraa' date=' did not ride out the finish yet again. Lost 2nd place in the last 50 yards meaning no each-way money. Cost my each-way accumulator. The chance of the win had gone but you have to ride the finish Hughes![/quote'] I have said the same many many times in the past. I hate having to put money on horses he's riding. He is one to avoid EW, forecasts,Trifectas , Swingers, place betting and Placepots etc. I would like to see the authorities clamp down on him, lesser jockeys are banned for similar offences but Hughes seems to be exempt sometimes, maybe it's because of his experience in front of the stewards that gets him off the hook because he knows what they want to hear. I'd like the stewards to take harsher action and apply it evenly to all jockeys. We put our money down we demand 100% effort. You buy something substandard from Tesco or Argos, you can complain and get your money back or a satisfactory substitute. If a punter backs a non trier theres no one we can turn to except Jack Daniels or Jim Bean.
  6. Re: The Jockey Thread Great to the very promising Sam Twiston Davies get the opportunity to ride as number 1 at Paul Nicholls. I think he will be top class in a few years time. It's very unfortunate for D Jacobs but as many punters suspected, he only took over R Walsh temporarily whilst a more highly skilled jockey became available. I'm sure there is some success in store for D Jacobs in the near future. Dont forget in the early days of AP McCoy he was stable jockey for P Nicholls before joining up with the then champion trainer M Pipe, look what he has achieved since.

  7. Re: The Jockey Thread

No I saw it too. Wondered if he had mistaken the finish line but it looked like he just gave up. Richard Hughes does it all the time, if the horse isn't going to win he will often not ride for a place to protect ratings. Nevertheless I was happy as I had layed it!
I'm glad someone else has noticed R Hughes not making an effort for a place once the chance of a win has gone. I have said this on multiple occasions in the past and get slated for it. Some members offer ridiculous excuses for him like ' animal welfare '. No you have it spot on, he doesn't try, despite being a highly competent jockey.
  8. Re: Ascot racecourse First visit to Ascot. First impressions, absolutely top class venue. I have been to many other courses and all of them are no where near in terms of quality. From the inside it looks like a massive airport. There are many levels and many escalators. I think there was about 10 restaurants and multiple bars. The views from the balcony are amazing, with a pair of binoculars you can see all the action. There was a Ladbrokes, two things I didn't like was that there not enough Racing Post Betting Shop displays and there was no results screens scrolling. There was a Betfred too. I didn't like the text screens, they were exactly as they were 20 years ago, it looked just like the old teletext service. Don't know why the screens are not like the ones in their shops. He calls himself the Bonus King, yet on their lucky 15 slips there is no mention of double or treble the odds for a single winner, nor do they offer any bonuses for all correct slips. They used the old fashioned duplicate betting slips which were settled manually just like in old days, why it's not computerised I don't know. To finish, absolutely superb, great facilities, everything great. Don't think I would go again, I didn't like the fact I had to wear a suit. I much prefer to go to a Catterick, Bangor, Chester etc etc.

  9. Re: Ascot racecourse Thanks Aidymac and Toast, it never crossed my mind to check out the website , I guess that's where you pulled the quote from. Toast, you are right. The racecourse highlights the disparity between the privileged rich and the poor. some of the staff wore bowler hats, what is that all about in 2014? They are only doormen, janitors and food service staff yet they look down on some race goers. The vast majority of the cleaners were visibly not of original UK origin. Just like the days when GB conquered the world. The hiring of these staff just perpetuates this myth that we are superior to other nations.

  10. Re: The Trainers Thread

Ex trainer B Hills used to love having winners at the Lincoln meeting, I'm assuming his successor Charlie will have a similar MO, he's had 2 winners recently, most likely his runners will have been aimed at this meeting over the winter months. WGM Turner has a runner in the Brocklesby, unsurprisingly its currently second fav, despite having absolutely no form whatsoever to go off.off the top of my head he's had 4 winners of this race this millennium, can't remember the ones before that but it's certainly a race that he likes to win. Whether the horse wins or not today, quite likely it'll be good enough to win a race very soon. Most of his horses are the pound shop variety but at this stage of the season they'll be good enough to beat classier ones from superior stables.
Did this before the Brocklesby last year when WGM Turner won the race yet again. He's worth keeping an eye on , his horses are typically more forward than other trainers at this stage of the season.
  11. I'm going to Ascot this Sunday. It's a 4 hour+ drive, so I want to be comfortable. My normal attire is jeans, the shirt and trainers. I have been to many racecourses and worn casual wear. Is there a dress code at Ascot? I hate having to wear shirts and ties outside of work.

  12. Re: Cheltenham Photos Tuesday

Never been to Sandown but me and Rio are considering it for that evening Brigadier Gerard meeting as it's free entry for those Racing Uk Club Days badge owners. Think it is in May and then it's York that weekend too. I'm off to O'Meara's on Sunday, stable visit. Hope to take the camera and get a few decent pics.
Any chance you could enquire about a horse called Petrol, just ask if it's still in training. They answered my emails a couple of years ago when asking about its health during the winter , they did not reply when I asked again days before his winning reappearance. Think they wanted to keep that one quiet.
  13. Re: Cosgrave banned for six month! The jockey knows it wrong and by accepting to carry out instructions he is well aware of any consequences that may follow. As for blaming the trainer or owners, let's see where that get you, what they agree to behind closed doors is different to what an inquiry will hear, just like no blame was attributed to De Kock and Soumillion. Any fans of Formula One will be familiar with the second string opening a gap at the closing stages to allow the number one to go on and win. This happens in other sports too, big bans is the way to go. Loss of Riding fees and prizemoney won't deter them, being away from the sport they love will. Conversely it was refreshing to see BJ Garheaty ( spelling I know ) on the second string beat AP in two feature races last week. Had they been trained by AP O'BRIEN The second string jocky would have applied the handbrake to allow Young Joseph to win.

  14. Re: Cosgrave banned for six month! I think it is fantastic they have the balls to ban them for 6 months. I think its great that in other racing regions they impose bans lasting years ,especially for corruption and non trying. They should follow suit in the UK , I'm sure many followers of the sport would agree. Don't you just hate it when AP O'Brien uses team tactics to win Gr1s , how many times have you seen the second and third string release a gap for the number 1 to ease past and win ? A two week ban doesn't have any financial bearing on the jockeys , they will be well compensated by the Tabor's / Magnier's / Maktoum's. Cosgrove will be well compensated , do you think he will lose 6 months of earnings ? Of course not. Remember the times when AP O'Briens horses break the pre race parades to avoid the commotion and he gets fined for doing so , its the owners who agree on these tactics and agree to pay for any subsequent fines. Remember when AP O'Brien / JP Murtagh on Starspangledbanner in the July Cup , they contravened rules by heading towards the rail as soon as the gates opened. Do you think a 2 week ban would prevent them from doing this time and time again ? Do you think JP Murtagh suffered any financial loss? 2 weeks won't make any difference , 6 months /1 year / 3 years will.

  15. i have noticed in the last few months that the results in the Racing Post has declined. They no longer display details of the details of the Swinger and Trifecta , the latter being one of my favourite bets. I used to check every day to see if any race was not won , now there's no info whatsoever. I know the RP is a commercial paper , has Fred upset them ? Why would they withhold important information?

  16. I don't know much about computers other than the basics. I'd like to purchase a second hand desktop computer and a second hand laptop with a combined budget of £400 or just a little more, for just online poker and surfing the net , nothing else. I don't understand the specifications /memory /ram etc. What should I be looking for ? Help please.

  17. Re: Flopped broadway staright Cash game That's what I was expecting to hear. It's not about scared money, I guessed that I was not a massive favourite to win the pot by the river, so instead of losing £170, I lost £20. I have just inputted the details into a odds calculator and on the flop I'm 50.8% vs 18% for 2 pair vs 31% flush draw , virtually a coin toss. In a tournament situation and you were above average stacked and close to the money , would it be correct to call for your tournament life , knowing you were 50% to win? What if the flop brought 3 spades instead of 2, against my 2 red cards, is it still right to call?

  18. Cash game in local casino , 50p/£1 i'm in small blind ( £168 ) Seat3 straddles £1 (£150+) Seat4 calls £1 (£80) Seat5 calls £1 (£250+) Seat 8 raises to £8 (£400+) I call with AT (offsuit red) Seats 2,3,4,5, calls too. £48 in pot. Flop KQJ , 2 spades I bet out my flopped st8 for £12 , for the reasons: Smallish bet to inflate the pot Its highly a few players have hit a lot of the flop and I need to find out who. My small bet is to induce a re raise Big blind folds Seat 3 folds Seat 4 re raises to £50 this is what I want and in my head I am calling. He has around £20 left which I know is going in whatever happens . Seat 5 folds Seat 8 shoves all in for £400+ Back to me , I now have to re evaluate . I have played with him many times in tournaments and he always makes this move with open ended straight draws or flush draws. I decide one or both of them are on these draws or the possibility they have 2 pair or a set. Even though I have them beat at this moment in time , I can even beat KKK , I fold seeing I have put in £20 and could lose £150 if their draws come in. Seat 4 calls his remaining £20. Turn 6 hearts River 3 spades. Seat 8 announces flush Seat 4 mucks , he later says he had King Jack for 2 pair. I made the right fold in this instance , but did I make the right fold strategically ? I was ashamed to tell anyone I folded the nut st8.

  19. W Hills are offering 4/1 for Al Ferof to win any race at the festival. He is currently 6/1 for the Queen Mother and 9/2 for the Ryanair with Hills , better prices elsewhere. If he runs in the queen Mother he won't run in the Ryanair and vice versa. Why would you take 4/1 for either race. Are Hills trying to pull a fast one? It would only work in your favour if the horse runs in the QM , then turns out again and runs in the Ryanair which in effect gives you a free second bet. Off the top of my head I can only remember Mysilv , who ran well in the Champion Hurdle and then almost won the World Hurdle 2 days later ,that was probably about 10 years ago. Theres probably been a few more which I've forgotten.

  20. What do you think about this bet: 4 runners Fav is 8/11. Best finishing position.....fav 4/6, the field 11/10. I can't work out why the fav is 4/6.why would you take the 4/6 in this market when 8/11 is available? This is a regular market at Betfred, the fav is always a fractionally shorter.

  21. just played in my local cardroom and had Aces, early position, final 20 % of players left, 10% get paid. It's a slow structured deepstack game and the average number of big blinds is above 40. I have 92k, blinds are 2/4k. The table is quite passive so most raises are met with plenty of folds. UTG limps I limp aces, button limps, both blinds come in. I know I say the table is passive, but I limp hoping for a raise at some stage. Flop J26 rainbow. Check, bet of 4.5k, flat call from UTG. I foolishly bang it hoping to take it down now! All fold to UTG who calls with 26 which holds up and leaves me crippled. I'm out soon after. Almost the same happened last week and another time before, at roughly the same stages of the tournaments. Question, with Aces should I be limping at this stage? My thinking is that a raise will just win me the blinds and antes. In the long run is it profitable to see all 5 community cards with one or more opponents? Aces are strong enough 80% of the time, so did I do much wrong? If I'm going to take down a pot without having to show my cards then I can do that with any 2 cards, right?

  22. For almost the last decade I've nearly exclusively played on Ladbrokes Poker, a couple of days ago then have switched from Microgamming to Ipoker. I have played about 6 hours and find it not as good. Maybe I'm too used to the old format, but I much prefer it to how it was before. Question, I'm no expert on online poker but is one better than the other, if so which? Should I persevere and get used to the new network or find a different skin on Microgamming? One thing I really liked about Ladbrokes was that I would withdraw my poker profits regularly from their shops, although I can still do that, this would not be available with another skin.
