  1. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Front page of todays Racing Post , interview with Ferghal Lynch. What a waste of space . Why are they giving him this platform ? He stopped horses from winning , he should have been banned for life. Typical of the establishment looking after each other. There are plenty of other racing names who have committed crimes within the sport but are still treated with affection. A lifetime ban would have sent a stark message to those prone to corruption.

  2. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Forget that it was Ile De Chypre at Royal Ascot. IDC beat Cacoethes at York the following season. Ims Nashwan was around at that time aswell. A golden era.
Thanks for that , I totally forgot which meeting , year , horse and jockey. 1988 even longer than I first thought. Was able to subsequently find this clip. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/horse-racing/13799912 As I said a couple of posts back , isn't it typical of Willie Carson to say the horse just jinked !! Rather than accept some skulduggery may have happened.
  3. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

You know what was impressive? Frankel's 2000 Guineas. Hawk Wing's Lockinge. Lester Piggott's ride on Royal Academy. The way that all the jockeys got together and let Frankie Dettori win on Fujiyama Crest. Narniyn was the best horse in The Nassau- FACT.
I said this before on here , with no response. I also said that I had never seen Pat Eddery try so hard on a horse which eventually came second. Think he was the only one who didn't want Frankie to achieve that feat.
  4. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

As for Kings Fete, Mick Fitzgerald said a most peculiar thing afterwards in that today they wanted to teach him how to run in a proper race and that "it's not about today". Does that not sound like schooling in public? Whatever, that was a ridiculous thing to say, imo. The commentators were saying what a great race he ran but Gosden was asked later on, I detected that he wasn't happy with the ride given by Doyle.
I was going to post the same. The commentator said he was 20 lengths behind in last . Obviously the jockey didn't know at the time but had he been 10 lengths off the leader he may have won. Nothing bad was said by C4 or M Fitzgerald....typical ar5e kissing by the media.
  5. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

But that wasn't your argument at all. Jimmy i agree some things are not fair but i wasn't replying to those examples, stay out of Erhaab's crusade if i was you before you get recruited. My last point on a pointless argument: It always amazes me how some people absolutely appear to hate the betting industry from top to bottom, moan all the time about how bent it is, how corrupt jockeys are, every trainer is doping horses, bookies screwing us over every day and yet continue to bet on horses. It beggars belief it really does, it must be an addiction or something. My advice is to walk away and take up gardening although i suppose they would moan about the weather then and say thats fixed?
We are all adults on here , no one is recruiting anyone , they are all old enough to make their own decisions and say what they want ! I don't hate the betting industry , if anything I respect it. But that's not to say some aspect of it isn't bent. Like reduced SPs , betting to 160% , shortening shorts seconds after withdrawal to increase the R4 , 2 places on some ante post markets when on the day 8 or more horses line up , offering ante post prices on horses who definitely are not turning up ( as soon as informed money is placed on a horse the prices are slashed within seconds , mug money on an ante post non runner they keep the horse in the market for days)........... Corrupt jockeys , even the younger members on here with less than 10 years interest will name over a dozen jockeys involved in corruption....it happens , fact. Doping horses ....it happens , fact. Its probably reported more these days than ever before . Some trainers and owners will do anything to get an edge. Remember the Royal Ascot meeting about 20 years ago when a horse was allegedly shot with a sonic beam when in front ? What's wrong with talking about these aspects of the sport ? I don't belong or pretend to belong to the establishment/upper class. I don't wear a panama hat to the bookies , I wear a baseball cap. I don't eat cucumber sandwiches and drink Earl Gray tea in a fine china cup with my little finger waggling in the air . I eat Greggs pasties and coffee in a paper cup. You may have accepted defeat and willingly lay down and let them trample all over you , that's fine its ip to you , but don't encourage others to follow suit. You may think you are part of the establishment , just like the Racing media. You have been brain washed into thinking its wrong to say anything negative towards the sport. Like Jimmy says , the sport of the working class ...football , pundits say it as it is , a players plays poor they say so. Same with the ordinary public and newspapers. With racing , nobody says anything negative. On Racingpost.com if there is a story about anything negative , they will disable the comments and the story is often not as severe as it should be. On C4/BBC Racing they all suck up to people in racing . If some body dies or retires , they are described as one of the hardest working people or one of the nicest you could ever meet. poor rides are overlooked and not mentioned. What we talk about on here is not going to change anything , but change will happen if enough people with the same ideology club together and make thing happen. You will remember the miners strike , nurses strike , Poll Tax protests. It just takes the small people to rise up against the bigwigs / corporations. You suggesting I walk away and take up gardening is condescending. You wish to mock me in front all the Punters Lounge members ! You say I deserve a flipping medal for highlighting a mistake in a betting market , what was your aim in that remark ? To put me down ?
  6. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread What about rails bookies shortening up horses after they have been visibly injured or withdrawn? What about the increased use of odds like 7/5, 12/5,85/40,3/4, 15/1,18/1,30/1 etc etc...To be honest I'd much prefer decimalisation where the odds increase in increments like Betfair, but the increased use of these odds are an indication of turning the screw. Displaying ante post odds on horses days after they have been reported to be out or have an alternative engagement . The bookies have up to the date information and instantly slash odds if a horse has produced a good piece of work at home or if a face has put a few on, but when it comes to removing an ante post horse from their lists, they can take days. Probably add some more when I wake up.

  7. Re: The Jockey Thread

I didn't have a big interest in racing 6 years ago Erhaab, so I didn't see Zarkava win the Arc. I'm 26, my lifetime has been much shorter than yours. :lol
No problem my friend , I thought you were a bit older. On another thread you say you had a nice winning bet on European Dream in 2004 , I think I remember that race , it was in the spring. I'm happy you managed to get the whole lot on especially as you must have been under aged and it was double figure odds. I'd struggle to get 10% of that on without them making a phonecall and then offering me £10 at the advertised price and the rest at SP.
  8. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Keep up the fight mate! But you did ask if there was a legitimate reason, i gave one. No one is ripping you off, its not like they used to give you something and now they aint. Its been like that since betting shops were legalised in 1961 and before that. No one is tightening the screws, it is what it is.
Society should not totally believe what we hear in the news or what the Daily Mail tells us. Do we believe Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK ? Do we believe Lady Diana died in an accidental car crash ? Do we believe we went to war in Iraq simply because Saddam had Weapons of Mass Destruction ? Do we the simpleton Barry George professionally assassinated Jill Dando ? Who knows , but plenty of us have questioned what the authorities have told us. It isn't what it is , they are tightening the screws. Tom Segal said in his column today that all he could get on is 15p , I've experienced the same , if thats not tightening the screw , then what is ?
  9. Re: The Jockey Thread

Yup, he is doing very well for himself. I think he was on by far the best horse in the race though which always makes it easier. Best filly I have ever seen in my lifetime I'd say.
Isn't it a bit premature to say she's the best filly you've ever seen? No doubt she's top class , but she's won an Oaks , although a Group 1 , is a donkey race and the King George , a Championship race but the field wasn't that strong. Time will tell if she's the best. Haven't you forgot about Zarkava , brilliant winner of the Arc a few years back ? Incidently whats happened to her offspring ? The bookies were offering 50/1 about her producing the Derby winner this year and odds about her offspring with Sea The Stars winning the Arc.

No those are the place terms they have set out and published. What is the legitimate and logical reason for the difference ? We are in the internet age , where we are more advanced than ever before. Whereas in the past we were told myths to avoid telling the truth or simply because they didn't know the truth. When we were kids/ younger we were told that if we didn't pray we would go to hell , if we watched too much TV we would lose our eyesight , if we spent too much time locked away in our bedrooms staring at our mothers Littlewoods catalogue we would go blind . In the past society accepted these to be truths , but today we know better. How have they defined the difference between 1/5 and 1/4 the odds ?
  11. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

It's quite simple, Group races are easier to figure out than handicaps. Maidens are easier to figure out than handicaps also, well in theory they are.. A handicap is designed to give every horse in the race an equal chance, whereas a maiden or Group race you can easily cross off several horses in the field. You won't ever see three or four 100/1+ shots in a handicap, you will in Group races.
That is an absolutely ridiculous reply . What you suggest does apply in many races but to say that is the reason why there is a difference between standard place / fraction terms is totally ludicrous. Can anybody explain why in Ireland you get 30+ runner maiden races , 1/5 odds 3 places only , betting to 160% !!! They do so because too many punters accept these conditions , what would happen if more punters refused to bet in these races ? I'm a prolific gambler when I have the time but in these types of races I refuse to have a bet.
  12. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Erm.....the legitimate reason is that it's the rules set out by the bookmakers association and has been for donkeys years. In Sept 2013 the bookies were warned about changing EW terms on course and were instructed to use the 'standard' EW terms. Some were offering 1/6th and 1/8th odds a place. Anyway we all know the proper terms with 1/5th and 1/4 odds and these sales races often have a lot of runners but the rules state that it has to be a handicap of 16 runners or more to pay out on 4 places, we all know that. Any bookmaker who pays out on the 4th or at 1/4 odds is doing so for a reason, to attract business. They don't have to or should be moaned at when they don't. Its simply up to you the customer to go elsewhere surely?
Thanks for the reply BillyHills. We all know what the standard terms are but can anyone explain how they have been devised? Lets take a Group race with 16 runners , 7/2 favourite. And a 16 runner handicap with all horses the exact same prices. Why does one pay out 1/5 the odds 3 places and the other 1/4 the odds and 4 places? Rather than say "thats the way it is you either accept them or don't have a bet" , can anyone give us a logical reason for the disparity ? To me we are simply being ripped off as punters , if we don't moan , nothing will change.
  13. Re: The Jockey Thread Fantastic ride on Taghrooda by Paul Hanagan in the King George , I've always thought he'd develop into a highly competent jockey and this is his third Gr1 this summer !! Bringing his total to approximately 5 . There are jockeys who go decades without even having a Gr1 ride so to win 3 in quick succession is a great achievement. One of my favourite jockeys. Well done , no doubt more will follow over the next few seasons.

  14. Re: Value Bet 8.20 Lingfiled , just over an hour to go !!

Its called cheating which ever way you want to dress it up Erhaab. It tells us a lot about people things like this. You knew it was priced up wrong and took advantage of it, simple as that. Got away with it this time. Well done, marvellous, terrific, fantastic! What do you want a flipping medal! :clap
What is with the sarcasm ? And why is it cheating ? I had already had a big bet on the winning favourite and only had £1 on the second to see if I'd get paid in full which I did. As punters we play within the goalposts which they set , if we win they move the goalposts. If somebody had a bet in this market would they be a cheat too or only a cheat if they knew the odds were wrongly priced up? How about lumping on a horse which you believe is priced bigger than it should be ? Quite often the tips on here are followed by words like "...its way overpriced..." are punters cheats for exploiting what they believe to be value? Of course not ! Would I have got a refund had my selection lost ? No !! , but if they realised they had priced up the market wrong , I would have been settled at the correct price. What about "Each Way Thieves" , as the name suggests , they are robbers in a negative sense , are they cheats also ? I didn't really seek out to profit myself but chose to inform others who might have been interested , is that wrong ? Are we not gamblers on here?
  15. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Big pat on the back for Ladbrokes who offered 1/4 odds 1234 in yesterday's big 2YO sales race which had 25 runners. Other major firms offered offered either 1234 or 1/5 , Hills being the worst 123 1/5. Coral 1234 but not shops! How can they justify such poor terms? Can any of the professionals on here explain why 123 1/5 is offered in such races? Is there a legitimate reason or are they tightening the screw on us?

  16. Re: Value Bet 8.20 Lingfiled , just over an hour to go !!

Plus' date=' if you get caught trying to exploit this kind of error you've a big chance to be blacklisted and limited to £10 (or less) max stake.[/quote'] How can you get caught exploiting an error , somebody could genuinely fancy a bet in that market without realizing , does that mean they should get banned ? As punters , do we not exploit the market when we think a betting opportunity is overpriced ? In that race I had already backed the favourite in the betting shop earlier in the day which eventually won. For interest I backed the second favourite at 2/1 ( board price was 2/1 also at the time )in the derivative market without the favourite which finished second . I was expecting to be paid out but at a revised price but was happy to see it settled at full odds. Whichever trader was responsible for compiling the odds for that race needs a good bolllocking.
  17. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

There was a horse at 9/2 a few days ago just before the off but they were trotting it up and down to check him out before the race. News filters through that he's going to be withdrawn' date=' and the bookies quickly cut it to 4/1 to ensure an extra 5p on the rule 4. Every little helps eh...[/quote'] I've seen rails bookies deliberately shorten up a withdrawn horse seconds after they heard its been taken out . I was collecting a bet and overheard them say "..lets shorten it up..."
  18. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread All week the Racing Post have been hyping Tagroohda for the Irish Oaks devoting plenty of column space with headlines such as "XXX as low as 1/2 for the Irish Oaks" and quoting one bookie saying 99% of all bets have been on this horse , even today they devoted page 2 and again saying 99.5% of all bets have been on Tagroohda. When you read these articles it persuades seem punters to lump on as if its a certainty. What happens ? Late this morning they announce she is going for the King George instead. How often have they hyped up a horse only for it to not turn up ? How often do we see horses hyped up on a Monday or Tuesday and have their price slashed only to be even bigger on the day of the race. Its no secret the Racing Post is partly funded by the bookies but way they get mug punters to have poor bets is ridiculous. Luckily for me I didn't have a penny on but I was very tempted to lump on at 4/5 on Monday.

  20. Fav is Old Guard 4/5 , Ladbrokes. They are offering a derivative market without the 4/5 fav , however they ( mistakenly ) are offering the exact same odds in the without the fav market. So basically if you back any horse in the derivative market at full odds and its beaten by the fav into second you win. Not sure about any clauses where they have made mistakes compiling the odds , probably is.
