  1. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Eagle Top a 3YO trained by John Gosden is a horse I have been highly impressed with since winning at Royal Ascot , I backed ante post at 8/1 for the King George which he finished 4th at odds of 9/2. Last week I noticed him in the betting for the Juddmonte but was not confident enough to place an ante post bet , also he is prominent in the betting for the St Ledger. Earlier this evening the RP reported him as not going for either the Juddmonte or the St Ledger , it says "as of two or three days ago we certainly weren't doing it." If it was known 3 days ago he isn't going for the St Ledger , why is he still in the betting at odds of 9/2 !! Some bookies has even shortened him since the release of this story !!!!! Foooking crooks . You can have as much as you like on it , no restrictions !! When the bookies suspects a mini touch by somebody like BJ Curley they slash odds instantly . A NR they shorten the odds to make it appear as if its been backed.

  2. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

No disrespect to people that work in bookmakers, but a lot of staff don't have a clue what they are doing. I have witnessed it many times in shops, I even witnessed a lady take out a calculator to work out what €20 @ 2/1 should return for a bet. I have also come across brilliant staff, so no disrespect meant to the bookmaker office workers but half the people you talk to on this live chat are clueless.
I have encountered these types of staff in all my time of betting. It is the fault of the bookie operators who don't put enough effort into training staff. They are cutting corners , they employ people who have no /little interest in betting. Was in a Betfred shop and noticed you could back the favorite in a derivative market at 10/11 to beat the field and in the normal market it was 4/5.When I questioned him if it was a mistake he couldn't answer , infact he couldn't even understand what the derivative market was !! This guy was in his mid 50s been in the industry for 3 years having been made redundant in another industry , and just been promoted to deputy manager. The guy was OK but had no comprehension of horse racing or betting other than his basic training.
  3. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Was out of town this morning and after finishing conducting my business I went into a Ladbrokes retail shop. I went up to the counter and politely asked the assistant for the Racing Post and she refused !! I asked why and it was because I was not a regular customer . It was rather embarrassing for me as there were a few customers in the shop . I found this very strange and it had never happened to me before. Also I was wearing a suit and tie , it was not as if I was looking like a tramp . I got back home and phoned Ladbrokes customer service after eventually getting through they too confirmed it was a shop policy and had done nothing wrong. I found this shocking !!!!!! I may have put a big losing bet on or pumped money into the FOTBs , but that NO put a stop to it.
They emailed back today saying priority is given to regular shop customers who want to read the Racing Post , thats very fair , but I asked to read the RP at 8.45am and it was behind the counter and no one else was asking for it !!! I calmly protested and told them I was a regular shop customer ( albeit not this branch) and a regular online customer. The email also said I was abusive and they operate a zero tolerance policy. Who wouldn't contest the staff if they refuse to allow you to read the paper !! Anyway the rest of the email was drivel. Just after speaking to customer service the other day I found the email addresses of 6 high ranking Ladbrokes officials and sent them all a complaint , no one has replied yet , I will let you know if anyone replies.
  4. Re: The Trainers Thread Great to see up and coming trainer D O'Mera in good form. He won the Great St Wilfred and a few days earlier won a Gr3 in Ireland. I've said it a few times in the past that in time he will become a top 20 trainer in time , infact he' s currently in the top 10 and again has surpassed the £1 million barrier. This is incredible considering he has mostly handicappers and low class horses. Historically everyone in the top 20 has a few listed/group winners , so what he has achieved in his short career is amazing. In the last couple of years he has attracted a few big owners , if his trend continues , it wouldn't surprise me if he challenges R Fahey and M Johnston for the title of top northern trainer.

  5. Re: The Jockey Thread

Great to see D Tudhope a decent up and coming jockey riding well. He's going to be a top 10 jockey in time.
Great to see D Tudhope ride a double yesterday at Ripon which included the Big race the Great St Wilfred. keep your eye on him he's a jockey of the future
  6. Re: Apprentice watch Yes I suppose it depends on how you define finished article. I see it as having not much more to learn or at the end of your learning curve as the word finish implies. He is lucky to have great support from big yards and will no doubt enjoy more big race success , other apprentices with no support from big yards often end up as journeymen jockeys. Dettori and Spencer had big successes before riding out their claims. Buick a current top 5 rider was not the finished article after a year.

  8. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread They've added a 3YO Gr1 sprint at Royal Ascot. Haven't they already got enough Gr1 sprints ? 3 in one week and then followed in quick succession by the July Cup , Nunthorpe , Haydock and then champions day. I think it would have been better to space them out , have one in the spring so they are not back to back. And also it gives the chance to horses who like a bit of cut. Too many Gr1 sprints dilutes the quality. Remember last years July Cup , it resembled the line up for the Wokingham.

  9. Re: Apprentice watch

C'mon' date=' give the lad a break. Ok, he's not as prolific as he was a month or two ago, but he's got a long career ahead of him.[/quote'] I think you have the wrong end of the stick , I'm not saying he's crap , far from it , just his apprenticeship has not been long enough. A lot of jockeys take around 4 years of riding to lose their claim even some of the top ones like multiple Group 1 winning / multiple champion jockey Ryan Moore. K Fallon and P Hanagan weren't the finished article until they reached their 30s. Unless they get taken on by a big stable their careers go downhill soon after losing their claim. Saleem Golam and Stephen Donahoe are recent examples of champion apprentices who after losing their claim have struggled to find rides. Agree with Calculus that O Murphy may be the exception to the rule but he is still 5-6 years away from the finished article.
  10. Re: Apprentice watch

Great to see R Tart (3lb) win the Irish Ces. Very promising jockey. I trainers reign back their apprentices and give them more of an education. Year after year a few standout 7lb apprentices come on the scene and other trainers exploit them which results in the apprentices losing their claim far too early leaving them less experienced. Too often we see them struggle for rides after their debut / 2nd season. Look at MJ Murphy, star apprentice from last year. Others on the list include former champ Saleem Golam, J Mackay,R Ffrench. Ian Balding is doing the right thing by not allowing O Murphy ride in races worth than £6k, I'm sure he'll be another future superstar from the Balding camp.
Has A Balding made a mistake by allowing Oisin Murphy too many rides? Now He's lost his claim , he is not an attractive jockey booking any more. Is it a case of too many rides too soon ? In years gone past , apprenticeships would last several years , O Murphy it took a year from debut to losing his claim.
  11. Re: Apprentice watch

Young Jenny Powell ' date=' an apprentice I had not noticed previously had a close second and an easy winner today at Haydock this afternoon , she looked OK , she may be worth keeeping an eye on.[/quote'] Been watching young Jenny Powell for a few months now , she's been doing OK banging in a few winners. She's had one today and one yesterday. She has a strike rate comparable to a top jockey , percentage wise.
  12. Re: The Jockey Thread

Its very very disappointing to hear F Lynch has been given the opportunity to ride in Britain from tomorrow. i'm sure my views are shared by thousands and thousands of horse racing fans up and down the country. It was typical of the Racing Post to have a big feature on him to help soften the blow.
Its no surprise trainer K Burke is a vocal advocate of Lynch. K Burke himself was banned from the sport too for a few years. Strangely his wife took up training at the same time his husband was banned and quit training when her husbands ban expired. It makes a mockery of banning trainers when all that happens is that a spouse or family member takes over. Theres been many cases in recent years , the most recent is Alan Jarvis ( not sure whether his ban was justified or not ) , his son took over the stable. He managed to get the license by claiming he had nothing to do with his father. Do we really think father and son have no connection ?
  13. Re: The Jockey Thread

Totally agree but think he's already there. I've been impressed with Hanagan' date=' Tudhope and Mulrennan this season. I think Ryan Moore is probably way out in front of everyone and Buick is one I trust with my money but I'd take Tudhope over most of the other jockeys riding at the moment. I've seen him ride some brilliant races from the front, knowing exactly when to kick for home and also seen him ride some hold up races when he's timed the finish to perfection. He's better than Hughes, Fallon, Dettori and Spencer and a few of the other trainers are just starting to see it and booking him.[/quote'] Tudhope's rise in recent seasons has coincided with the meteoric rise of young trainer D O'Mera who I also predicted a couple of years ago would become a top 20 trainer in the next few years. Tudhope has had the odd few bookings from big southern stables this year , if the trend continues he could be the one that Newmarket trainers want when they send one to York , Haydock , Doncaster etc... I wouldn't say he's better than Hughes , Fallon , Dettori and Spencer yet , give him a few more years and I think he will get there , Tudhope needs more big race experience. As I've said in previous posts Fallon and Dettori are on the decline. You cannot rely on them any more , its probably due to age. In betting for the silver saddle in the Shergar Cup Dettori was 3/1 fav , it was no surprise to me he came stone cold last with a measly 3 points. Why Qatar has given him a retainer makes no sense based on his recent history , its more political than riding form. Will the Qararis replace him on Treve in the Arc ?

  15. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Shergar Cup Takes place this weekend and just wondered what people thought of this format. Its been going for a few years now (1999) and i'm just not sure if i like it or not. One thing i do like is the field sizes which makes the races easier to work out but is that equalised by the fact that the normal jockey is not on board and in fact in some cases the jockey haven't even ridden at Ascot before! Also is it still necessary to have a womens team? Is this just a gimmick or do people think the whole thing is a gimmick or should we encourage something a little different to the everyday hum drum of british racing? Thoughts anyone?
It didn't interest in any way and so I did not bother watching it. After 15 years you'd have thought they have come up with a decent format. If they are going to use Shergar's name then make the races more prestigious than a card full of handicappers. Although I didn't watch it a quick glance at the racecard sees that the racing colours have not been addressed . All the silks look the same from a distance despite having different patterns. If you are watching from the stands , it would be hard to distinguish which horse is which. Horse racing does not work as a team sport. If I back a horse I want it to win , and not be used as a pace maker or ridden in a way that helps other team members. I'm sure the team captain would have discussed tactics and maybe sacrificed a horse or two in order to gained points. Why have only 10 runners when there are 12 jockeys ? Ascot can easily accommodate 12 horses and reserves , do jockeys really need to sit out ? Womens team ? Is this the 1970s ? They are very much part of racing today not gimmicks. Good to see the Arabs supporting the card , they boycotted it for a few years. I am aware my comments are largely negative , they are very similar to comments I have posted in the past about this event. I am not saying them to annoy members , its just what I think. There are hundreds of comments on other forums about this event pretty much in line with what I have said.
  16. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Like I have said in previous posts I like to talk about aspects of the sport which are brushed under the carpet. Tagroohdas win last month in the King George was fantastic , but that is covered in the Racing Post , Sporting Life , BBC , C4, ATR etc etc.... How boring would it have been if I said the exact same ? Instead I said the Racing Post have a responsibility towards punters in that they should not influence punters to part with their money in a wily nily fashion. On the week of the Irish Oaks they were saying over 90% of money was on Tagroodha and subsequently many punters latched on to take the seemingly generous odds of 4/5. Only for it to be diverted to the King George.Punters would have backed Tagroodha anyway had it run in the Oaks but not so early in the week had it not been for the RP. This latest episode between me and other members is the result of me again asking how the bookies have decided which races to offer 1/5 and 1/4 the odds and the origin of them.Instead of a " I don't know " I get sarcasm. I mentioned Fergal Lynch earlier in the week , I get blasted and no other positive remarks. On other forums which I don't visit with regularity but did so this week ,there were over 100 posts on the topic with over 95% of them in a similar tone to how I feel about the topic. One witty remark was Graham Bradley to employ stable jockey , I'd probably get my tyres slashed if I posted that on here.On PL this topic is brushed under the carpet. I'm sure Jimmy has a few opinions on Lynch but rather than air his comments he has wittily changed his avatar , nice one mate.

  17. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Erhaab mate, do us all a favour and find something else to do, you obviously don't like it here or appreciate the mods that help to run it. Why are you here anyway? You joined in 2010, had 1300 posts and tipped one horse that i can remember in all that time and that was an old Cumani horse you thought had been nobbled. If you look at your last 500 posts it is littered with moans and gripes about everything can name (just left click username guys if you don't believe me) Now you can try and play the victim here all you like (there picking on me sir!) but it doesn't wash with me. Despite your claims we have never stopped you from staying anything, we may disagree but we have never censored any subject. You even managed a negative comment in the 'Myths' thread that has just started recently, you couldn't wait, post 3, what kept you! All i ask is that you try and get involved in the forum, enter the competitions, give us your advice on this weeks big race, post a selection, fucking do something apart from slag a jockey, trainer or bookie off for once in your life!
What do you mean " do us all a favour and find something else to do..." ? , does that mean I am not welcome anymore ? What makes it obvious you think I don't like it here ? This is followed by " why are you here anyway " , if you want me to leave and not return just say so and stop pussyfooting. Yes I've only tipped one horse and that was only because I started a discussion about trainers not having their horses fit to race , in line with many of my posts. I highlighted a horse prior to its racecourse debut that would be not win. And would also be handbraked for its next two subsequent runs. I also said before its debut that it would win on its 4th run !! Therefore the only reason I tipped that horse was that I had to follow through with my assertion and put my head on the block. Its 4th run was 2 seasons later but it did win , vindicating what I suggested. I don't pick horses the night before so I do not plan to put up any selections . I'm not playing the victim , just coming on here every so often and posting a comment or two , if you don't like it , don't respond. Jimmy is right about it being very CLICKY around here. During my time here I have posted a comment and members have swooped at me from all directions saying the complete opposite. It doesn't in any way bother me , its just a chat room. It doesn't bother me that when a member attempts to argue back at me other members will click LIKE !! If that's not CLICKY then what is? You started a Weekend Big Races thread and immediately received 3 thanks ??? " fucking do something apart from slag a jockey, trainer or bookie off for once in your life!" What is with the personal vendetta against me ? " For once in your life !" you don't know anything about me !! I've not made any personal remarks about any member on here , I have disagreed and argued but not insulted them.
  18. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Lads' date=' everyone is entitled to their opinion, no problem there. But some people just like to whings and moan for the sake of it.There is bad in racing, but I like to look for the good. If there is so much corruption in racing, why even bet? You'll get nowhere.[/quote']What's wrong with debating different aspects of the sport?,We are not moaning for the sake of it, we have valid points. The good points as you call it is covered by C4 and the Racing Post. Wouldn't it be an even more boring site if all the Racing Chat was well done this jockey and we'll done that trainer on top of the endless reams and reams of racing selections, plus all them bookmaker adverts offering 4 places and enhanced odds littering the site.Imagine watching Match of the Day and all the pundits said every player and every team played very well. And all the shots not on target were brushed under the carpet.I would prefer the mayhem of the betting shops on here with punters speaking truths rather than not wishing to diss a racing personality.
  19. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Erhaab, you have made some valid points at times but I really think you over do it with the grand conspiracy theories... The article in the post doesn't really portray Lynch in a particularly good light, surely it is no real harm in bringing these issues into the public forum and highlighting the mistakes he made in the past, I honestly think he was suitably dealt with by the BHA... RP need to sell their paper on a quiet Monday and like it or not people like to read about stuff like this. Also, corruption is not exclusive to horse racing - it occurs in all sports and is covered up or not dealt with in many cases, I mean look at Higgins in the snooker, the complete free for all that was Italian football in the late 90s and early 00s or the potential ramifications of Operation Puerto for top tennis and football players had the key incriminating evidence not been destroyed. Unsavory stuff goes on in racing - of course it does, but that should not stand in the way of enjoying all that is good abut the sport and I think it has come a long way to cleaning up it's act in the last couple of decades... Your posts seem to be exclusively on this topic and basically nothing else, seems very negative to me.. Anyway, just my two cents (and I am not part of some secret upper class racing Illuminati)
What conspiracy theories? Have I made them up? Sticking F Lynch on the front cover to sell newspapers ,how pathetic and who are these people who enjoy reading this trash. Very sad they allow him to play the sympathy card. Corruption in football ,snooker , ballroom dancing does go on and will probably be vigorously debated in the relevant sections of Punters Lounge. Aidymac...yawn.......would you like us to brush negative issues under the carpet and pretend that the sport is squeaky clean. Isn't Punters Lounge like the online version of a betting shop seating area? Aidymac how do you drink your Earl Grey tea? Little finger pointing upwards or little finger pointing downwards?
