Morning, there is no set price for laying off in running. If I back at 5 or 6 or so then my lay off price will be around the 1.4 to 2.18 mark, depending on how confident I am and how the race is panning out, if the fav in that race looks to be running poorly then I'll go for the lower end of the spectrum, if something looks like an abvious winner and mine cant win then I'll happily take a red if need be, better to retrieve half you stake or even a quarter than none at all. If the horse is priced between 2.2 and 3 when I back it the the lay off price will be around the 1.08 to 1.21 mark, often if BF live video is up to speed then I wont lay off if mine looks all over the winner. Of course if I'm out and about and cant be at the PC during racing then the in play lay off bets are placed pre race so cant do anything about them, if I'm at home and watching on BF Live Video then I'll place my lay off price during the race. I use Gruss for firing my bets in.

Indeed it is. Most of my betting is on the exchanges, I did experiment with laying but worked out I am better off (both money and time wise) by letting the bet roll.

Its a good job we are all different Harry ? If your betting is profitable then it is a route that you WOULD go down, in fact its probably the route that makes your betting profitable unless you have a strike rate of 70%+ I suppose. I dont actually know anyone who uses the exchanges seriously and doesnt lay off in running, even if its at 1.01. The joys of diversity?

I do indeed Harry and yes, It works for me and others too. There are other strategies to consider depending on the size of your stake, in some big races if I back at lets say 12, I'll lay half my stake off at 6 and the other half off at 2.8 or thereabouts, there a lots of things we can do on the exchanges, those who dont take advantage of these type of tactics maybe are those who havent yet looked at them? Then of coure you can spread your stake over the field to make a profit regardless of the result (once your second bet is  matched of course)

Bangor in the 2.50 I like the look of Hidalgo De Lisle currently around the 6 mark on the exchanges, he was trying to give a whopping 29lb to the winner at Sedgefiled and failed by 8 lengths, that one wass rated 100, now rated 110 after a good run in a Listed event, the 4th home that day was 21 lengths back and is rated at 105 so for Hidalgo to get in here from a mark of 108 for his handicap debut looks very generous to me. Win and place........took 6.2 for this, went off at a Bfsp of 4.81 and WON easily?
Southwell 3.15 race, Melwood Boy is currently around the 3.3 mark, slowly into his stride on debut last time out and still got to within a length of the winner finishing 3rd well clear of the 4th placed horse, the winner that day was an 83 rated horse and given that his nearest market rival tomorrow is rated just 69 (gets 5lb) makes Melwood Boy look worth a bet hoping that the experience on debut did him some good.....Took 3.05 for this, went off at a Bfsp of 2.76 and finished 3rd, didnt go low enough to trade out on.
Kempton in the 3.35 race No No Tango is the choice. He was upped in distance for handicap debut and would have got closer but for being impeded by a faller when looking to challenge, currently 6.2 on the exchanges. Win and place...........took 6 and 2.1 the place.......went off at a Bfsp of 4.9....hit a low of 2.24 in running (layed off at 2.4, stake returned) finished third giving a profit on the place.
Southwell 4.20 where Big Narstie is selected, only ever won once from 17 attempts but runs in a Class 6 for the first time tomorrow, 7 furlongs seems to be his distance and down two grades can win this, trading around the 3.25 mark........3.4 taken, ......went off at a Bfsp of 2.92................and WON ? (layed off here at 1.18.)
Bangor on Dee for the 4.35 where Well Vicky is a worthy favourite, upped in distance for her handicap debut the mare improved a stone and won going away, a penalty shouldnt stop her getting the double up,  I've taken 2.56 for this one............WON comfortably?

Earl Of Tyrone is an interesting Stable Switcher in the 8.00 Kempton, placed in the Ebor last year, around the 4.1 mark..........stayed on well and WON nicely ?

In the 2.40 Vision of Hop is an interesting newcomer to hurdling and a stable switcher has a great record in this head gear, albiet on the fat but looks decent at around the 5 mark in what could be a two horse race........somehow hit a low of 1.6 in runing before being stuffed.

The 2.00 Wincanton looks a good Novices Hurdle. I like the look of Spartan Army with the 4 year old in receipt of weight from Matata and Celtic Art. After nicely winning a Maiden Hurdle he was thrown into a Grade 2 contest and aquitted himself quite well finishing 5th to Comfort Zone, he was badly hampered by a faller at the last when beaten but a decent effort all the same. If you were to give him a rating for that effort you would put him around the 116 mark, he gets a fair bit of weight from the  two main rivals and looks to have a great shout here. The winner went on to win another Grade 2 (with that days runer up then coming 3rd in the same race) and the third came out and won a Class 2. The form has a solid look to it. Best available is arund the 2.86 mark on the exchanges...........big drift and went off at a Bfsp of 3.77 and hit a low of 1.76 in running (thanks to Matata running out.)
 
As always an in running lay off price will be played.
