Ok I'm considering waving the white flag on the all weather just cant get to grips with it . Yes the selection came from the back in its last race to win with a bit in hand , ridden the same again and its fell out the telly,  lol hows that work .

I did this on the aw really just to prove a point that my way pays and even though it's been no less than disastrous I have in a way proved a point . I started with a 500 bank , betting win only I've done my nuts , my way I have a nut left lol . I'm sure the people who understand know what I'm on about . Anyway  I will press on and eventually get back into the black sooner rather than later . Anyway

    Lost , not even close

    Win or place 23/41

    Balance 260   win only (5) - stacks lol -440

Don't know if this helps but I am now ignoring market leaders in all class 6 and 7 races and placing win bets mainly on outsiders.  I find that I am fairing a lot better now.  I will never ever again include market leaders in class 6 or 7 races in my multiple bets.  Lesson learned, money burned

Yes, I tend to bet the same total stake whether I back to win or each way. Some would argue that for good bank management you should bet proportional to the odds, so you would have twice as much on a 2/1 shot compared to a 4/1 shot.

I'm trying to stick to £2 stakes for 2/1 to 7/2, (33% -21%); £1 stakes for odds between 4/1 and 9/1 (20% - 10%), 50p stakes for odds between 10/1 and 20/1 (9% - 5%) and 25p for any selection above 25/1 - 100/1 (4% and less).  this seems to be working out OK for me lately.  I think that it would simply would not work to adjust stakes to the odds on offer.  But then again I don't have any statistics to prove it otherwise.

Hope you had a good break and nice to see you back

If there is an edge with the win odds then I would back the horse to win, if there was an edge with the place odds then I would back to place. I don't see any logic in an 80/20 split, why not 50/50, 60/40 etc.

Many thanks, just thought I would ask.  It was something being put forward by a respected race adviser, I guess based upon the idea that the horse(s) are more likely to place.  Normally I would rather place two bets to win than back one each way.  Incidentally, if one normally has a one point win bet then do you think that when placing and each way bet that this should be half a point each way?

Being serious for a minute, ask any decent punter worth their salt, what is the main reason for a selection.

To a man they will tell you, its if a price is value to the horses chances, in any particular race.

Its simple, if a horse in not value, or not at least the price you think it should be then you move on.

(and yes, even a short priced fav can be value)

Its quite ridiculous to suggest having a competition where by you don't know what price it will end up.

Just my opinion (thats not the answer to the previous question by the way) ?

I don't dispute the point that you make; all I'm saying is that if the naps were settled at SP there would be no doubt about the prices throughout the month.  As I wrote earlier it doesn't matter if @kenisbusy only got 50/1 instead of 80/1 all of us could check it out and be reassured that the price was correct.

For a minute there I thought that BHG meant Billy Hill's Geegees.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, albiet it's nearly over

Players have been taking prices the night before since the comp began over ten years ago, so nothing changes.

I can check them on oddschecker. (or you can let me know if i've made a mistake)

We WILL not be doing SP anytime soon, (think about it, try and work it out, answers on a postcard)

@The Equaliser move on mate, lets put our energy into trying to pick a winner, we both need one (or two).

Thanks for the support from the majority of members:ok

Well, in light of the information that I have supplied then, if both you and your boss(s) feel that you will be implementing the most equitable changes to the rules for the Naps competition from the 1st March  then so be it.  Sorry, I didn't have a postcard available. ?
