Just week to go to the world championships in Australia. Re: World cycling championships 29 Sep - 3 Oct TT Main Contenders Fabian Cancellara The best TT cyclist in last five years. Three times world TT champ in last four years (didn't participate in 2008), including an Olympic title in Beijing. All his wins in WCH are at least with 45 seconds better times then second placed. This year he was dominant in the Tour TT stages. In paper he must be almost unbeaten, but he concentrate his form in the Spring classics winning both Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders. Just to Compare in 2008 the situation was almost the same. He was second in Paris-Roubaix and won earlier stage tour Tirreno-Addriatico. Was very active, but lacked freshnes in September so he decided to do not participate at WCH. Now he wasn't decided if to participate in Australia after long season. But his last word was "Let's GO". Also Fabian is without a team right now after the cancelation of his Saxo contract. In the last TT at Vuelta Cancelara surprisingly didn't score a win, despite the fact that the oposition wasn't so strong. 1-3 place Odds around 3 are nice value for him, but i will search something else Tony Martin The German improved a lot since last year. Managed to beat Cancelara in away field during the TT in Tour of Swiss. Lost twice by him during Tour de France, but showed that he is the one who is breathing on the neck of Spartacus. He was third in last year world championships selecting the same way of preparation just before the WCH - riding at Tour of Britain, using the stages just for high class preparation. Now i think he will improve and will be on first or second position. 1-3 place Value for E/W bet of 8 or a place on 2.5 ! Gustav Larson Second in last year's words. This season won the final TT at Giro, beating strong TT-ists like Pinoti, Vinokurov and Cadel Evans by not so serious margin. Participated at Vuelta, where was 4th at the 17-th Stage TT. The preparation in 2009 was far more different with just one Grand Tour - Tour de France and a lot of rest and specialized trainings before WCH. 5-10 place David Zabriski Third at WCH in 2008 in a year which he missed almost entire season because of injury. Several times national TT champ, he didn't show amazing results in Tour and Vuelta TT-s. Was 7-th in Vuelta's TT stage and 5-th in the Tour. 8-15 place Luis Leon Sanchez National Champion, showed good form in 17-th stage of Vuelta, finishing fifth. But now in Australia will be very different. He never been around the top places at Worlds and now will be very tough for him after his very very heavy season, which started with Tour Down Under, includes Paris-Nice, Vuelta a Catalonya, Tour de France and Vuelta 7-15 place Koos Moerenhout The Dutch hope for good results. Finished 7th previous year Showed good results this season in maybe the strongest TT of the 2010 during Tour de France. He was sixth there. Showed very good form in August during protour de Benelux. At the TT he was fifth, where Martin was first. Behind him were Bert Grabsh, Lars Boom, Sven Tuft Kloeden and Hagen. 4-8 place Ignatas Konovalovas Lithuanian was ninth last year at the Worlds and this year showed better improvement. Was sixth at 21-st stage in the Giro then after winning the national TT title scored very strong forth place in the Tour's 19-th Stage (TT), where he was beaten just by Cancelara, Martin and Grabsch. he took big rest after the Tour and his main target for sure will be Top 3 in TT at WCH. Value to play: 8+ for place or 41+ e/w bet 1-10 Peter Velits The Slovakian surprisingly won the TT stage at Vuelta. It was great performance and i think the confidance of HTC's rider will rise very strongly. With some good conditions he may be a strong top 10 contender, but however now Cancelara and the other specialists will be on max. His problem probably will be all the efforts he put during Vuelta. 7-12 place Janez Brajkovic Former world junior champ is the dark horse here. Disapointed very strongly in Tour de France, after winning Dauphine Libere. During Dauphine he won very convinsingly 49 km TT, beating such names as David Millar, Hagen, Menchov, Contador, Laszlo Bodrogi, Bert Grabsch..... He received big rest after the Tour, probably preparign himself for the Words. He will ride on new TT bike and already prepared himself. As he is saying in his tweeter, the legs are great, the problem is in the head :) Value for e/w over 41 and place over 10 1-8 David Millar Former world champ in 2003 showed some nice TT this year. His biggest problem is that he Rode once again the three GT (In 2003 he rode just Tour de France). Was third in the Prologue of the Tour, but on the real TT race finished 17-th. In Vuelta also failed to impress with his 10-th place. To much race days... Sorry for him, but i don't see David in Top 5 8-15 place Michael Rogers Twice world champ (2004 and 2005), just before Cancellara's time, showed some change of his profile. Added better climbing skills, but lost some of his TT's qualities. The good news for him is that he decided to concentrate himself for the world championships after Tour de France. The new recruit of Sky will have great chance after not so bad earlier season. 1-10 Value: Win 26.00, place 7 Other notes: The best italian TT Marco Pinotti is out, because of infection. Bruzegin also is injured after Vuelta so that leaves Italy with not so strong TT-ist. Twice bronze medalist at Worlds Alexander Vinokourov is also out of the competition
