Re: Southwell 15/2 15:30 -Angel Song A tight race here but Angel Song hacked up on debut over c&d when beating Dance and Dance by 4½, Dance and Dance went onto run at Lingfield in his next run and ran a good race when beating ¾ so the form looks ok. I'll take Prescott's filly to beat the other three runners 15/8 Stan James (bog) Southwell 17:00 - Fairly Honest Favourite could be worth taking on here at such a short price and the one I select e/w is Fairly Honest, the horse will have to improve a bundle on recent form, no wins in 30 runs is prett dire. however he does have some form over 8f. he had a good spell without winning at Brighton last summer and posted an ok run over 8f there, this track throws up strange results and hopefully this horse puts in a decent display today. 16/1 Bet365 (bog)

Re: Southwell 15th February 3.00 Southwell Ok, this may seem a stupid selection at first glance, but delving a little deeper I don't think it deserves to be a 40/1 shot. Firstly, I think top-rated animals always warrant respect in all-weather handicaps because the statistics show they win just under a fifth of all races. Only A Game is top-weighted here because of a rating of 70 and has infact been running off much higher weighs on previous starts. His last run over course and distance came running off a mark of 78 in a class 4 handicap for horses rated 0-80. His next start came in another class 4 handicap at Wolverhampton, this time for horses rated 0-85 and his last run came in another 0-80 race, for which he was rated 74. He has failed to make an impact on all of those starts, but if you can look beyond those pieces of form then you would have to say he is not a 40/1 shot. He won a course and distance handicap in this grade off a 2 lb higher mark in January last year to add to a couple of wins in selling races in his first few starts. He is proven on the surface and likes to race prominently, and in this small field should have no problems taking up his favoured racing position. Only seven go to post so he might be worth chancing with Jimmy Quinn on top as he's ridden quite a few winners at Southwell recently. he's reasonably race fit and first time blinkers could spark a little bit of improvement now he is back down below a previous winning mark and dropped in grade. I'm betting dry for a while now, but will follow this one with great interest.

Re: Southwell 15th February Robby Bobby 4.00 Southwell The only course and distance winner in the field and often finds itself in front at around the 1f mark and will need to be there today in this race as those coming from off the pace often seem to struggle. Kandidate has finished last in 4 of its last 5 races and gives weight to this young, improving horse despite being only rated 7lb superior and lacking the potential improvement of this horse. Formation is the likely danger but last two wins were at Lingfield when held up and has to prove its liking for this surface. Overall stats for both trainer and jockey are impressive.

Re: Southwell 15th February Southwell 16:00 Robby Bobby 10pts to win @ 11-8 BBOTD Banker 19131 with jockey Greg Fairley and again booked for today. He's been on board the last three. 2460 with w/o Fairley on board. Trainer Mark Johnston have Southwell for his best course for most wins this season. 7 wins from 19. 2 - 11 @ Great Leighs 5 - 17 @ Kempton 9 - 47 @ Lingfield 6 - 29 @ Wolverhampton Robby Bobby's been on a good run since stepped up to 10+ furlongs, form reads 131. Won a Class 2 12f Handicap at Lingfiel lto. Only defeat from the last three is the 10f race at Great Leighs. Course and Distance win on 23Dec08 will come in handy for today. He is the only runner in this field to have course experience. Kanditate finished last on his last three runs 7, 6, 6. 6/6 and 5/6 from his last two 11f runs. The early lead should be between him and Robby Bobby. Advantage between the two goes to RObby Bobby because he's in better form and carries 9lb less. Formation and Best Propect makes their course debut. Both like to be held up and that might give them problems getting to Robby Bobby for the line.

Re: Southwell 15th February LA CAPRIOSA 2.30 Southwell. Seems a decent enough price considering has the form to win and likes the trip and surface. Is vulnerble to the favourite's potential improvement, but at the prices he's the bet and so let's hope things pan out for us. 1 point win.
