Kempton 8/2/09

2.40 Kemp Tough claimer to crack. Profits Reality chased home Scarab not so long ago and was in fair form in handicaps but he is 8 lbs wrong with La Estrella, a regular in this type of event who has been mopping up for fun and goes for the double-hattrick. Quince has been knocking on the door and Kings Head would have an obvious chance on these terms if all was well as he's been running okay in handicaps and is best in at the weights. A really intersting race this, I'll side with La Estrella, whose form counts for a lot. 10/3 3.10 Kemp Millfield often races keenly and may not be the most straightforward, but the exception is when George Baker is in the saddle. The hold up master has ridden him for five of his 9 career wins and they seem to have a decent understanding. He's handicapped to have a chance, only 3 lbs higher than his win over a mile here in November. A turf second to Patavium Prince at Brighton in the summer suggests 7f should be okay. Balata is a CD specialist and ran into a well handicapped winner last time when stepped up in trip. Dropping back down in distance, must have a decent chance, and Last Sovereign must have claims if all is well after his 177 day break. Goes well fresh, and only 3 lb higher than when winning i this grade at Newmarket previously. Has winning form over this trip at Catterick and although never won on poly, has placed on it to suggest it suits. Theres been a bit of overnight support for the Chamings runner, and with Baker riding a huge plus for me, I'll side with that. 9/1 3.40 Kemp Premio Loco the one they have to beat but he scraped home in a conditions event last time so I don't fancy backing him at odds on. There is value in siding with an each way steal, Orchard Supreme will do. Had the beating of Councellor last time and 5 lb better off here. Disappointed on last few tries in this grade, but those were over trips that probably stretched his stamina. A course and distance winner that goes well here, and may be able to provide Hughsey with his first win of the year or at worse, recover losses through the place component. 4.40 Kemp What Katie Did was a course and distance winner two runs ago and although 5 lbs higher than that win, has won off higher marks in the past. He may be happier over 6f, so although he finished back in third last time over 5f, I don't think he can be written off on 64 just yet. Last race came in a class 5 0-70 handicap, and today drops down into a 0-65 class 6 handicap and those infront last time would exceed the ceiling rating to compete here. The winner last time came from a yard that could do no wrong at the time and the second has been a model of consistency and looks a winner waiting to happen. Looks to have a big chance now back up in trip. 7/2
