Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:45 Newbury: What's Up Pussycat 2pts win 1pt place 16/1 William Hill Whats Up Pussycat ran in some decent races when trained in Ireland by David Wachman, the Irish One Thousand Guineas Trial and several Listed races and was not disgraced. She lines up here off a mark of 92 and is a big price after a moderate first outing for her new trainer. However, there is cause for hope as What's Up Pussycat could well improve for this extra furlong and David Simcock is in fine form.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:20 Newbury: Ballista 2pts win 1pt place 10/1 Bet365 (1234) Ballista looks likely to benefit from the drop back to five furlongs and any ease in the ground will not worry him. He got off the mark at Haydock beating one of Richard Hannon's with the pair well clear. That looks a decent time, and he is top rated by Topspeed. He probably did not appreciate the firmer ground at Salisbury on his only other start as he was hanging. Yet that form looks pretty solid, the odds on winner Crown Prosecutor is entered in the Group 2 Gimcrack.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:35 Market Rasen: Seymour World 1pt win Betfair SP If you write off last season and take a chance that whatever was wrong is now right !! Then Seymour World is worth a speculative bet. A very useful novice he won well at Cheltenham and interestingly has a four from seven record at Market Rasen. Sometimes horses come alive at a certain course and find their old form. If it is going to happen anywhere for Seymour World its here. Maybe his trainer thinks the same, because he could surely have found an easier assignment.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:40 The Curragh: Crystal Gal 1pt win 59/1 & 1pt place 10/1 Betfair With the going conditions possibly playing a part, there could be a surprise winner. Crystal Gal ran a very respectable seventh in the Irish 1000 Guineas on ground which was probably too firm and a distance that was too short. Her subsequent run was disappointing which means she lines up a big price here, however with softer ground and a mile and a half to travel she could at least make the frame. There is every reason to think she will be better over this sort of trip with her pedigree, which goes back to Urban Sea, who won the Arc on heavy, and whose offspring include Galileo and Sea The Stars.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 6:40 Windsor: Talenti 2pts win 7/2 Coral Talenti has his first run on the turf since finishing down the field in the 2008 Cesarewitch. His only other flat run was on the all weather when again highly tried in a Class 2 at Kempton for the Queens Prize. Even allowing for been on the downgrade he would be far worse off, if this was a handicap. This is the first run on the flat for Mrs Hill and might just be worth chancing.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 8:40 Bangor: Super Kay 2pts win 13/2 Stan James Super Kay is still to win a race under rules at the age of nine so its probably unwise to get too heavily involved, however this is a modest race and having joined Mrs Lawney Hill, who does well with her new recruits, and top conditional jockey David Bass in the plate, he should put up a decent performance.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:50 Ascot: Hacienda 2pts win 1 pt place 33/1 Stan James & Macs Power 1pt win 16/1 William Hill Hacienda ran a decent race last time out at Newmarket, he set the pace for most of the way over a mile. He ran out of steam there, however the drop back to seven and a bigger field may see him in a better light still. Hacienda tended to wander last time and lost valuable ground, and with Mark Johnston going well and Joe Fanning back in the saddle a good run looks on the cards. Macs Power ran down the field last time, but prior to that looked very much on an upward curve. At Doncaster he came from the back to win going away. As a consequence, he is up in the handicap, though the form looks solid. The second Standpoint ran to a similar level next time out when second and the fourth Toto Skyllachy won next outing.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:40 York: Sunraider 2pts win 7/1 Ladbrokes & Baldemar 1pt e/w 20/1 Bet365 Sunraider looks very much an improving sort. Described by the Racing Post as winning readily last time out, a seven pound increase may not stop him. He ran well to beat Little Garcon by just over two lengths at Haydock. Little Garcon had previously finished in front of Lowdown (on the all weather) and then ran respectably behind odds on Bated Breath. All of which gives the form a solid look. Today looks the day for Valery Borzov, however it could just be that Baldemar finishes in front of his better fancied stablemate. He runs well in these big handicaps and was only just touched off by Ingleby Lady here earlier in the season off a pound higher. Drawn on the wrong side last time out he looks to have a much better chance from stall six today.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:30 Ascot: Dabbers Ridge 3pts win 1pt place 14/1 Betfred Dabbers Ridge may not be quite the force of old, however he is in good form and lines up off a mark of 73. Only last year he picked up a couple of races off higher marks and he will not lack for help from the saddle as three time former amateur lady jockey Carol Bartley takes the ride. Trainer Ian McInnes has had three winners from his last twelve runners.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:15 Newmarket: Strategic Mission 1pt win 20/1 Ladbrokes Interesting that Paul Cole has kept Strategic Mission, maybe he has been showing just enough at home to make it worthwhile. Only eight runs on the board which includes a win off seven pounds higher. Little to no encouragement last time, but if that happened to blow away the cobwebs, 20/1 would look big. Worth a speculative point to find out.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:30 York: Christmas Light 2pts win 1pt place 25/1 Bet365 Christmas Light could well improve for this step up in trip. She beat odds on shot Dubai Media rated 85 over the course last time out, and while that filly has a few quirks, Christmas Lights nevertheless showed a good attitude, and the pair were clear. Both trainer and jockey going well over the past couple of weeks.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:35 Ascot: High Office 2pts win 1pt place 22/1 Skybet High Office is up in the handicap and up in class after his win at Haydock. However, he always looked as though he was going to win that day and the third Baltimore Jack and fourth Snow Dancer have both won since, so the form looks decent. By duel Derby winner High Chaparral, there is every chance High Office can improve again for the extra distance today. Richard Fahey remains in fine form.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:10 Goodwood: Submariner 1pt win 10/1 Stan James & Tartan Gunna 1pt win 14/1 Bet365 Submariner is lightly raced and and dropping back in distance here could go close for Mark Johnston who has a fine record at the course. Tartan Gunna represents Mark Johnston too and also has valuable course form, handles the surface.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:30 Goodwood: Mujood 2pts win 25/1 Blue Square & Truism 1pt win 15/2 William Hill Mujood has a fine course record. Recent form has not been good hence the price. Only just above last winning mark and return to Goodwood could spark a revival. Truism has run well here before, with a step up to a mile here and Ryan Moore booked could go close.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 5:40 Goodwood: Anhar 2pts win 9/2 Blue Square & Jedi 2pts win 16/1 Boylesports Anhar won well last time out at Haydock at a four pound increase does not look too harsh. Jedi was a decent winner at Chester and could come on again for this extra distance. Unusual for a horse with this jockey / trainer combo to go off at this sort of price.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:10 Goodwood: On Terms & Backboard 1pt win on each Betfair SP May be worth taking a flyer on a couple of real outsiders. On Terms came unstuck at Ascot last time out but previously had run up a string of wins. Has course form and could yet have a little more to come. Jumps trainers often have a go at these races and Backboard's best form over hurdles is on better ground and with William Buick booked and cheek pieces back on a better show can be anticipated. 5:10 Goodwood: Flapper 2pts win 1pt place 20/1 Paddy Power (1/4 odds) Flapper disappointed last time but reunited with Amy Scott may pop up at a decent price, ran well last season to notch a couple of wins and not too much higher in the handicap now.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:10 Goodwood: Rigidity 3pts win 11/1 Ladbrokes Rigidity was only beaten a length and a quarter by Dandino on his seasonal reappearance. That horse went on to win his next two and was only beaten a head by Rebel Soldier this week in a Group 3. Next outing Rigidity went clear at York only to be collared on the line by Arlequin. Arlequin has since run well at Newmarket in a competitive handicap. Rigidity has been off, however not reason to think he won't be 100% with Henry Cecil overseeing things.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:25 Goodwood: Tactic 3pts win 100/30 Bet365 Tactic lines up here on a hat trick. He won a Listed race in May at York by 14 lengths. Then he followed up at the Curragh in a Group 3 staying on well and holding off the challenge of Profound Beauty. Profound Beauty had previously beaten Age of Aquarius, so Tactics form looks solid, and is given a further boost when looking at Age of Aquarius's run Chester, where he was second to Harbinger, back in third was Munsef who was no where near as far adrift as he was to Tactic at York.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:45 Goodwood: Kings Wonder 3pts win 1pt place 22/1 William Hill With Victoire De Lyphar attracting most of the attention at the head of the market for David Nicholls, Kings Wonder may just have slipped under the radar. He has won here off 84 in the past and with Michael Geran's claim he is effectively below that mark today. King's Wonder has not been with Dandy Nicholls long and he looks to be coming to hand. Could go well in a race where his trainer has a fine record.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:25 Goodwood: Aspectus 2pts win 25/1 Ladbrokes, Sea Lord 1pt win 6/1 Ladbrokes & Tartan Gunna 1pt win 22/1 Coral Aspectus has only recently joined Jamie Osborne. He had some quite useful form in Group races in Germany. That is hard to assess, however he does break fast out of the stalls and with a nice high draw could get to the front and with traffic problems behind may not be caught. Sea Lord looks certain to fly out the stalls and may also take some catching. Would appear to have the ideal running style for this race. Tartan Gunna has a difficult draw and a hold up running style so will need lots of luck in running. However, Mark Johnston put blinkers on last years winner to bring about improvement and if the switch to a first time visor has the same effect as when Tartan Gunna was tried in a blinkers first time he could surprise. Has course form and run earlier in the week was respectable over further.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:40 Goodwood: Noverre To Go 2pts win 1pt place 12/1 & Prohibit 2pts win 1pt place 33/1 both Bet365 (12345) Noverre To Go brings some rock solid handicap form in to the race. His win from Himalya at Newmarket in May has been franked with that horse only just missing out at Royal Ascot in the hot Buckingham Palace Handicap. Noverre To Go went on to run well at Royal Ascot too, when drawn on the wrong side in the Wokingham. Prohibit has also been running well and this step back up to six furlongs in a strongly run race may just be what he needs. And with Eddie Ahern taking over in the saddle he could spring up at a decent price.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:55 Goodwood: Mockton Vale 1pt e/w 28/1 Stan James, Eboney Boom 1pt win 1pt place BFSP & Roxy Flyer 1pt win 1pt place BFSP Going for three outsiders who hopefully have better chances than their odds suggest. Mockton Vale represents the powerful Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan combination. He opened his account at Pontefract showing a good attitude and had previously run well at York. Maybe did not handle the track at Chester in between. Eboney Boom has joined Gary Moore after winning a maiden for Henry Cecil at Brighton, so should handle this track. Second placed Baltimore Clipper has won since and form of previous run behind Desert Recluse was respectable until running out of puff. Roxy Flyer has valuable winning form over the course and third behind Sea of Heartbreak looks respectable.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:10 Newmarket: Miss Moneypenny 2pts win 1pt place 33/1 Blue Square Miss Moneypenny put up a solid performance to win her maiden at Brighton. Previously she had run well for a fair way behind Sweet Cecily who went on to run in a Group 3 at Royal Ascot. Looks a pretty open race and there could be more to come from Miss Moneypenny and Louis-Philippe Beuzelin takes off a handy three pounds.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 6:55 Southwell: Elusive Fame 2pts win 33/1 Bel Cantor 1pt win 14/1 & Punching 8/1 all Bet365 Southwell is a unique surface and some horses take to it. Elusive Fame runs well here and his last outing won off 76. He lines up here off 62 with Charles Perkins taking another seven pounds off. He has been running poorly lately either getting behind or going too fast, but if he gets it right here on his favourite surface he is very well handicapped. Two others that run well here but have run poorly away from Southwell are Bel Cantor and Punching. Bel Cantor won off 81 earlier this year and Punching is another that has was off considerably higher than his current mark.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:10 Ascot: Golden Destiny 1pt e/w 16/1 Bet365 & We Have A Dream 1pt e/w 25/1 Sportingbet Golden Destiny appears to have gone off the boil a little this season after a good run at Bath in a Listed race in April. However, she has been keeping good company, a Listed race at Nottingham and a Group 3 at York before being drawn in the middle of the track at Ascot last time out. Closer to the rail today with Richard Hughes aboard and first time blinkers may see her go close. We Have A Dream runs over five furlongs for the first time today. Perhaps a little odd for a five year old, but last time apart in the Stewards Cup, he has been leading for a long way over six and this looks well worth a go. Although drawn widest of all, at the price he looks worth a shot.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:20 Ascot: Dubai Dynamo 1pt e/w 20/1 Stan James Dubai Dynamo has received a little help from the handicapper and is now a couple of pounds higher than his last winning mark when touching off St Moritz at Newmarket. May be a little better at 7F however, only just went down to Tiger Reigns at Ripon over a mile earlier this season. Both of those runs look pretty decent form.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:10 Newmarket: Eton Rifles 1pt e/w 18/1 William Hill & Sunraider 1pt win 9/2 Betfred Its hard to explain Eton Rifles run last time at Newcastle as he conditions in his favour there, however, put that aside and he goes well on these underfoot conditions and looks capable of winning of this sort of mark. Sunraider may have finished closer with a better run at York. Previous run at Haydock looked very good and he too handles the softer going. Looks a solid favourite.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:05 Newmarket: Spanish Duke 2pts win 9/1 & Rumble of Thunder 1pt win 7/1 Both Stan James Spanish Duke is lightly raced and he put up a good performance to win in May at Salisbury on good to soft over this distance. He stepped up a couple of furlongs at Musselburgh in a race won by Harris Tweed. That may have been too far yet he ran respectably, dropping back in distance today, could go well again. Rumble of Thunder ran well last time at Sandown without much luck. He had previously performed well on the similar contours of the Rowley mile course, and has won on good to soft.
