I am not sure if it is really so - remember there were a lot of yankee multitable sharks too. perhaps the games are just getting harder as everyone has more knowledge and experience? I think the theory was though that Americans wouldn't actually be excluded - it would just be more hassle for them to find a way to deposit - the sharks would make the effort, whilst the casual fish wouldn't....
