Re: new course starts to be built.. Were getting one up here also plans have been done and dusted and work to commence soon.

A series of public meetings are currently underway to discuss plans for a state-of-the-art racecourse in East Lancashire. Led by the Marquess of Zetland, a leading and prominent member of the horse racing fraternity accompanied by representatives of the respective councils and the Lancashire Economic Partnership, a question-and-answer session addressed residents’ fears about potential nuisance, environmental quality and the traffic impact. "The development of a racecourse in East Lancashire will bring massive economic benefits and employment opportunities. It's a very exciting and challenging project and will put Lancashire on the map", said Dennis Taylor, Chief Executive of the Lancashire Economic Partnership. If it is given the go-ahead, the development will be only the second purpose-built racecourse created in the UK since the 19th Century and the first in the 21st. The ambitious scheme is expected to create several hundred permanent jobs and 1,000 casual jobs on race days alone. The international business consortium, which has financial backers in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and the UK contacted the Lancashire Economic Partnership two years ago seeking to develop the racecourse on land near Read, Simonstone and Altham. The consortium is looking to develop three racecourses – two in the UK and one in the Far East. "Having worked with the same organisation in the past, I am confident they will give proper considerations to the welfare of the local community and will bear in mind any environmental and traffic impact the development will have to the local area. "The consortium has a worldwide track record of development of this nature and there is no reason to believe that it will be any different to its approach to this project", said Dennis Taylor. Advanced technology will be used to create a super, all-weather grass surface, enabling the consortium to guarantee up to 60 days of racing a year. A five-star hotel, leisure facilities, an associated retail development, stabling and an equestrian training centre are also planned. The project could take five years and more than £100million to finish.
