Quick returners was a method that Philip Alexander often used in his methodmaker column in the Raceform Update back in the 80s and is probably the only "system" that has stood the test of time. That is until the last 2 years. On the AW this was profitable for the 7 years to 2020. Backing all those horses that ran within 6 days of their last run you would have made a profit of 850 points at BSP with an AE of 1.08. Unfortunately the last 2 years have been lossmaking with a loss of 413 points and an AE of 0.92. Whether this is down to the market finally catching on or different training methods I do not know.
