what is a good internet poker site

I've been playing internet poker for about 15 months now, and still can't find one site where there's decent poker. I've played many different poker sites and they're all the same. People play with all sorts of rubbish and it's sooooooooooooo frustrating when they keep winning. :wall I started playing live poker about 6 monhs before that, and in that 6 months I was about £3500 up, reaching 9 final tables out of 20 starts and winning 4 of them. :nana But then the internet players started playing at the casino too (you can tell who they are by the hands they play) and everything has now dried up.:cry Does anyone know an internet site when good poker is played? And I don't mean one where everyone only plays good hands (you'll never find that), but one where you can play strong hands without the worry your going to get called by 52 and get outdrawn by a low straight (to quote Paul). Yes, everyone can play whatever they want, but it's not good poker. When I first started playing live games there was an element of skill in the game, not a lot, but I'd say it was 90% luck to 10% skill. Now though, particularly on the internet, it's 150% luck.:puke The skill is in the bluffing, but bluffing is not calling all the wa yto the river and hitting, that's just **** play! Again... :puke So, does anyone know of a good poker room? I's not bothered about making millions, just want a good (preferably cheap) game of poker.:hope PS - i like the emoticons here :ok :clap :cheers :beer

Re: what is a good internet poker site

oops, it wasn't paul who said they wanted to hit someone in the face when they got outdrawn by 52, it was GotaFancy? sorry for the mix-up. :$
Hehe ........ Despite my sig, I'm a firm believer that in the medium/long run, there is no luck - even on the internet - it is only your skill that will win you money!! If someone wants to call with 52o, then I know that eventually I will take money off them, so I don't care - I play for the long run!!! Sounds like you've had some good success - well done!!!! :clap :clap If you don't like playing "internet players", because they consistently beat you (even if it is an outdraw!!) - does that not suggest that this style is better (more profitable) than the style you experience in live games? Does "Good Poker" necessarily have to be tight poker? If you came across Gus Hanson on the internet, without knowing who he was, would you judge him a good or bad player? And :welcome to the Lounge.

Re: what is a good internet poker site Thanks GaF for the :welcome . To be honest, I don't rate Gus Hansen. Yes, I know he's won loads, but I think a lot of it is based on luck. I watched him play a game t'other night. He was in the last 3 with Chan and Cloutier. He was short stacked by a long way, got lucky 3 times when he was all but beaten, and ended up winning. I don't think that is skillful poker. I don't have a problem with people bluffing, but calling with a bad hand and outdrawing a good hand is not bluffing, it's riding your luck. And yes, I agree that you'll beat the fisherman 8 times out of 10. But the problem is the whole riverbank is lined with them... and I can never seem to beat them all. Many people rate Phil Ivey too. But to me, he plays similar to Hansen, although maybe not quite so loose. Now to me, a good player is someone like Devilfish Ulliot:notworthy . Yes, admittedly, he plays a lot of bad hands. But he is raising with those hands (i.e. bluffing), not calling with them and hoping to outdraw. But he also knows when to fold, unlike the 2 I mentioned above. Any suggestions about any internet sites for good poker? I have tried tons of them but haven't found one that I like yet. I tend to play betfair most of the time at the moment. Like I said, I don't care about becoming a millionaire playing poker - although it would be nice), but just to enjoy a good game of cards.:unsure

Re: what is a good internet poker site Hi thepro, :welcome to PL ! When i started playing poker I had similar thoughts as yourself but came to realise quickly that these bad players are the players you make money off. It is going to be very hard to advance as a poker player until you can beat the worst players in the game. If you can't beat these 'fish', you have got slim to none chance of troubling the better players. You must look at yout own game and study why you are being outdrawn. If you post up some hand histories on here, I would happily and many others i expect would be happy to offer their opinion on the way you are playing your hands. I think it is a bad idea to jump into a better game at the moment as you are still learning the game and still pretty experienced. If you do still want to play at a better standard then the only way is to step up in limits i am afraid. Try any of the £50,£100,£200,£500 STTs or £90,£120,£300 6paks on betfair. The standard isn't great at the lower end of the spectrum here, but the games at the other end are really tough. Whatever you decide GL, don't hesitate to ask for help here anytime :ok

Re: what is a good internet poker site :) Thanks guys, I'll try PokerStars. Winty - I don't think I'm a bad player; like I said, in my first 6 months of playing - live games - I reached 9 final tables out of 20 starts and had a profit of £3500. I don't believe that was beginners luck. I even played against some pro's that have been on telly and knocked them out. Yes, there is a large amount of luck, but I'd like to think there was some skill as well. I generally play the 6paks on betfair, but only $10 games. I've tried up to £30, but they're all the same, so I stick with the minimum loss. Having said that, the few times I did foray into the £30 games, I won... all of them. But as soon as I withdraw, you can guarantee I'll be on a losing streak. Software fixed??? I think the code says... If UserName = "ThePro19" then UsersWinnings = 0 Endif In case you didn't realise, I'm a programmer, or rather used to be. I've worked in IT for 20 years so I know what can and can't be done on a computer. And I know that random on a computer is not totally random, no matter what anyone else tries to tell you. Anyway, I was thinking of playing a more expensive game once to give it a try... just need to pluck up enough nerve to do it. I've paid £100 buy-in to a live game before now (satellite to a major comp, and won through, but had the worst bad beat in the big comp), but haven't had the nerve online. Thanks for the advice, and I'll let you know some of my hand losing hands and you can let me know what you think. Can I ask (without being insulting) if this is advice from a pro, a good player or just another internet player? What experience do you have? :)

Yes, there is a large amount of luck, but I'd like to think there was some skill as well. I am not implying that you are a bad player thepro, I haven't seen you play or seen a decent sample of results from yourself to decide either way. There is a lot of luck in the short run in poker, but in the long run it is practically non existent. But as soon as I withdraw, you can guarantee I'll be on a losing streak. Software fixed??? This is a common myth, there is absolutely no truth or evidence to back it up. Please don't believe it, it will put you into a negative frame of mind when you play as you will be expecting to get outdrawn etc. and will change your game. And I know that random on a computer is not totally random, no matter what anyone else tries to tell you. Agreed, random is never completely random on a computer as it is based on an algorithim. But as you will know, these algorithims are solid and are as random as can be. They do not discriminate in any way against individual players, that's just what the losing players blame for their poor play. Can I ask (without being insulting) if this is advice from a pro, a good player or just another internet player? What experience do you have? Just another internet player :tongue2 , I 4-table STTs on interpoker/betfair regularly. I have put a lot of time into learning everything about STTs and feel like i am one of the better players at the low limit STTs on the crypto network. I have been playing for around 18 months and am still learning so much every day :D My results for last month are here; http://www.punterslounge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22031 GL in your games and look forward to your posts :ok

Re: what is a good internet poker site Nice figures witty. A couple of months ago I had managed to break even on betfair (it's the only site that display how much you've deposited and how much you've withdrawn without going through all the statements). In fact I was £16 up. But then... AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH, went a few days without being able to win a single penny. Really screws up the mind. Hope to see you on the 6paks some time... I think, although now that I've said all this you'll probably play as loose as possible. :eek

Re: what is a good internet poker site Hey guys. Didn't really fancy starting up a new thread. But this site below describes the 'fish' rating of a few sites. One of my mates who plays on pacific (and wins) said i have to start playing on there because of a ll the cross over traffic from the casino 888.com. Wondering if anyone does play on any of these so-called fish sites especially pacific and any views would be much appreciated http://www.beatthefish.com/poker-reviews.html
