ridle
The Top 8 players meet here to battle out this years Masters cup winner. The draw is yet to be announced, players likely participating are: Federer * Nadal Roddick * Hewitt * UPDATE: replaced by Gaudio Agassi Coria Davydenko Ljubicic Hewitt and Roddick are still doubtful because of recent injuries. Federer also had one, but visited a wonder healer who helped him to recover :clap Still it isn't sure which fitness level he has. Coria (UPDATE: and Gaudio too!) is surely the weakest player on fast surfaces of these. I expect the title to be battled out between roddick/nadal/federer/ljubicic (of course also depending on the group draw). also feeling davydenko could be the dark horse here.:drums
Mr Intensity
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November I think this could be a bit strange. I think there are doubts about EVERY player coming into this (injury/form/tiredness/inability to serve:)). Still too early to think about it. We have the ladies tournament to concentrate on first:ok
Hathead
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November I heard during last weeks Paris commentary that Federer was on crutches!! Hewitt has been out for ages this season so will be short of matches,Coria hasn't been the same since he changed raquets.Roddick we all saw what the back injury has done.Agassi hasn't played since the U.S. Open. Personally i think Nadal has to be the bet here and possibly Ljubicic e/w. Bet 365 don't have prices up yet but there are my opinions. What do you think. ridle
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November Can only agree can't look past Kim Clijsters here - maybe Davenport. Tulenos
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November Agassi with one last shout? Hmm, with such a doubtful field it's not out of question. Nadal depending on the price. As far as I remember, this tourny is a special one and tends to produce quite a few shock results - including that Novak's great run some years ago when he got to a flyer after being 0-5 down in the first and winning (vs. Agassi) 7-5 and 6-1 in the end. That year (2002) almost no match went as predicted. It's been a bit more consistent since then but remember it's the last tourney of the season for the participants and taken as a show rather than a regular tourney.;)
Tulenos
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November Huh, looks like the matches in Shanghai start @ 6 am each day of the tourny - 6 am CET, ie 5 am GMT. One for the real enthusiasts, methinks. At least the early matches as I suppose the second match of the day will be on @ ca 10 am.;)

ridle
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November That 8/1 on Ljubicic at Stan James can't be true, can it? I saw a few bookies having priced this up and he's around 2/1. The first two of each group advance right? With Federer's fitness doubts this looks f'king large.:welcome Who has priced Ljubicic at 2/1 to win it? Wouldn't that make him 2nd favourite ahead of Nadal:eek . He's 4/1 to win the group which I'm not too sure about - wouldn't you get better on him to beat Fed?:\ Oh the other hand Agassi is 6/1 to win his group (Nadal 2/7, Davydenko 5/1, Gaudio 20/1). I'm having some of that. He doesn't have a big server to play against and it 'should' come down to a match against Nadal. I'd fancy Agassi in that to be honest, a least to have a good shot at it. No way he should be a bigger price than Davydenko, unless a deal has been made between the Las Vegas and Russian gangsters. Mr Intensity
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November Ladbrokes go 10/1 on Ljubicic:ok With so many people struggling, I'm willing to have a go on Agassi on the outright too. Also Ljubicic, looked knackered last week but having a week off should help. Even if Federer is fit, he should have enough serving to take out Nalbandian (who appears to have crumbled a bit recently and the late call up can't help) and Coria (who can't serve, Ljubicic will be all over him). If Fed is struggling, wahay, much better. 3pt profit is on the place part of the selection. Muchos happiness if either can go all the way. ridle
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November Federer injury concerns 10 Nov 2005 00:00 Roger Federer says he is not sure how he will perform at the Masters Cup in Shanghai after recovering from an ankle injury. The Wimbledon champion has been sidelined for four weeks after picking up the problem in training, but is now ready to return for the event in China, which gets underway on Sunday. The Swiss ace is likely to be the bookies favourite going into the tournament, especially with Andy Roddick, Marat Safin and Lleyton Hewitt already pulling out. But Federer is playing down his chances, admitting that he does not know his ankle will stand up to the test of tournament play. The world number one revealed: "I'm here to defend my title, but health comes before success. I just hope I can play the first game without any pain." Federer will play Guillermo Coria, Ivan Ljubicic and David Nalbandian in the Group stage, with the top two going through to the semi-finals. http://www.clubcall.com/vsite/vcontent/content/transnews/0,10869,5034-143501-19728-27811-210102-11681-5024-layout104-160717-news-item,00.html
Hathead
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November Federer comes into this with hardly any matches since the U.S. His first 2 rounds at the U.S. were poor by his standards and in tournaments the opposition is easy as he is no.1 seed. That luxury will not be there in Shanghai. Not many people bigging up Nadal, easy group for him.Agassi has not played since the U.S. and will find it tough IMO. NADAL FOR ME!

ridle
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November Also interesting news from Rafael! Nadal says Shanghai surface too fast SHANGHAI, Nov 10 (AFP) - Spanish teenage star Rafael Nadal says the ultra-fast surface of the court at the season-ending Shanghai Masters cup does not suit his baseline style of play but he will give it his all anyway. "It's clear that the court is difficult for me and, compared with other tournaments, it's clear that it's not the best," the reigning French Open champion told AFP late Thursday ahead of Sunday's start to the tournament. "I don't know if I will be here in the next few years... but I hope the surface changes next year. "There is little time left until the start of the tournament and one has to move on -- what had to be said has been said and now there's no going back." The 19-year-old clay court specialist, who has had an astonishing year with 11 singles crowns, will be further hampered by knee tendinitis but he tried to downplay his injury concerns. "They're not going to get any better because it (the condition) is coming on strong," said Nadal, who skipped the Paris Masters due to the injury. "But with what I've got left (in me) I'll play well." World number one Roger Federer will also be struggling on court following an ankle injury sustained last month. "I hope I can be ready to play without any pain on Sunday. It is my primary concern," the Swiss star told the China Daily. The other players in the field are US veteran Andre Agassi, Argentinian trio David Nalbandian, Gaston Gaudio and Guillermo Coria, and first-time qualifiers Nikolay Davydenko and Ivan Ljubicic. ridle
Re: Tennis Masters Cup 13-20 November Didn't expect really anything higher than the 9 at SJ - but looks like prices will settle at around that level.
