Racing Chat - Saturday June 24th (Ascot Day 5)

Ascot Day 5 - Saturday

The final day at Ascot features just one Group 1 contest, The Diamond Jubilee over 6f. We also have the Wokingham cavalry charge over the same C/D. The rest of the card is tricky enough and ends with the longest race of the Festival, the 2m5f Queen Alexandra Stakes.

The Chesham gets the ball rolling, the last 2yo race of the week and none of them have been easy to predict so far. This will be no different although I do like September from the O'Brien camp. She couldn't have been more impressive on her debut and will be hard to beat. Top rated horses is Nyleti, another impressive filly who bolted up at Salisbury.

The Wolferton is wide open with a lot of untapped potential lining up, Elbereth comes out top of my figures and she ran really well last time out in better company so could be worth an each way bet.

Group action next in the Hardwicke and the Queen's best horse Dartmouth will be primed and ready to strike here for the Stoute and Moore combo.  Seamie Hefferman takes the ride on the O'Brien horse Idaho who just comes out best on my ratings. I wont mind if the Queen wins here to be honest.

The  Diamond Jubilee looks a match between Limato and The Tin Man, i just have the latter on top but it should be a cracker. They are drawn wide apart so it will be interesting to see how this pans out. The pace looks on the low side so that all bodes well for the Fanshawe runner.

The Wokingham is a nightmare and my tentative vote goes to Certificate of those drawn high and on the other side the Godolphin runner Steady Pace who is drawn 6. The final race of the week is the marathon Queen Alexandra Stakes. Interesting that US Army Ranger is markedly upped in trip after disappointing last time. If he stays he looks the class act. Tuesday's winner Thomas Hobson will be popular in his bid to double up for Willie Mullins.

Useful filly who won the Lowther at York last season and has been running over longer trips this term. Not shaping  too badly when 5th in her Guineas trial at HQ and then could only manage 9th in the Classic back at the same venue. Back to the minimum now and should beat these.
