Scoop6 – Saturday October 31st

No winner last week on the Tote Scoop6 so we start off with a nice £198,403 in the Win Fund and a whopping £430,706 in the Bonus Fund.

The action this Saturday is over the jumps with five races at Ascot including the Grade 3 Sodexo Gold Cup and the Charlie Hall Chase from Wetherby at 3.05. Early start at 12.40, so get your bets on in good time!

Leg 1: 12.40 Ascot

A very tricky 16 runner novices handicap to get the ball rolling. Barry Geraghty won this last year on Tara Road and this time rides for his new boss J.P.McManus on I’Dliketheoption. Only a 4yo and won two of his three starts over hurdles, he starts off in handicaps on a mark of 120 and is open to improvement. The Hobbs yard is in form so it will pay to keep an eye on Bilbrook Blaze but one I like at bigger odds is Amidon who looked the likely winner last time out at Cheltenham but weakened up the hill. Trainer Lucy Wadham is in good nick and looks fairly treated on his overall form.

Selection: Amidon 8/1 Bet365 (Bilbrook Blaze)

Leg 2: 1.45 Ascot

It was about this time last year that Venetia Williams started to get going and she won this race, she saddles Astigos here who looks well weighted and ran some fair races last term. The Harry Fry team send out Voix D’Eau who was an easy winner last time at Ffos Las and the Nicholls yard run Anatol who makes his British debut, he hasn’t run for nearly 600 days and could be anything, both are respected but don’t represent much value. Gary Moore has two runners and the improving Vikekhal looks their main hope and comes here on a hat-trick after two victories at Fontwell.

Selection: Astigos 10/1 Skybet (Vikekhal)

Leg 3: 2.15 Ascot

A Listed Chase and last years winner Ulck Du Lin comes here a stone worse off at the weights and will need to be on his A-game to follow up. I quite like the top two here Royal Regatta and Sgt Reckless, both make their seasonal debuts but hail from yards who can get them ready first time out. Royal Regatta won at Newbury and Doncaster in his first season over fences and looks the type to keep on improving while Sgt Reckless was a decent 6th in the Arkle behind Un de Sceaux and has had a run on the level to get him spot on for this. He looks a promising type and might be one to follow this season.

Selection: Sgt Reckless 4/1 Betfair (Royal Regatta)

Leg 4: 2.50 Ascot

The William Hill handicap hurdle has attracted eleven runners and the 2014 winner Sign Of A Victory will be well fancied to follow up for Nicky Henderson. He’s 14lbs higher now and won’t want anymore rain to get into the ground so with some doubts it may pay to look elsewhere. Nabucco is the progressive runner in the line up for John Ferguson, rated 106 on the flat and won two of his three starts over hurdles. His mark of 132 could be lenient but wont be much of a price. Jolly’s Cracked It won at this meeting last season and then was second in the Tolworth. He ran ok after that without winning but looks tempting on a mark of 138.

Selection: Jolly’s Cracked It 8/1 Ladbrokes (Sign Of A Victory)

Leg 5: 3.05 Wetherby

A vintage renewal of the Charlie Hall Chase, seven runners of which any could carry off the first big prize of the NH season. Cue Card returns to action with a new jockey. Paddy Brennan takes over from Daryl Jacob and receives plenty of weight from the top three; Many Clouds, Menorah and Sam Winner. The Pipe duo Ballynagour and Dynaste have both been to France during the summer and will be cherry ripe while Holywell is not out of it after a cracking run at Aintree last time out behind Silviniaco Conti.

It really is a toss of a coin, I’d love to see Cue Card win but have a funny feeling that last years winner Menorah might pull it out of the bag despite his penalty for the Hobbs/Johnson combo.

Selection: Menorah 13/2 BetVictor (Cue Card)

Leg 6: 3.25 Ascot

The big handicap of the day worth over ÂŁ55,000 to the winner and last years winner What A Warrior is just 5lbs higher this time. He only managed two more runs last season and now comes here after a break. Plenty of others interest me here and the likes of Double Ross, La Reve and Present View all make the shortlist in a fascinating contest.

Top weight Houblon Des Obeaux has a terrific record here at Ascot and last season was third in the Hennessy on his seasonal debut. This is easier than that so must go close and is preferred to the yards other runner Bennys Mist.

Selection: Houblon Des Obeaux 16/1 Paddy Power (Double Ross)

:ok
