Scoop6 – Saturday August 15th No winner of the Tote Scoop6 last week so the Win Fund starts at a nice £102,251 this Saturday. The six races this week are made up of two a piece from Newmarket, Newbury and Ripon where the big sprint race The Great St Wilfred is off at 3.30. Leg 1: 2.15 Newmarket A quirky old race to kick things off this week, a race for ‘Greys’ only and we have 17 of them lining up for a very tricky 6f handicap. The top weight Steve Prescott has to be on the shortlist after his impressive win here last week. Trained by the in form Richard Fahey he will take all the beating. Of the rest York Glory would be dangerous if anywhere near his best while I like Crew Cut’s chances with Adam Kirby in the saddle for shrewd trainer Stuart Williams. Selection: Steve Prescott 11/2 Ladbrokes (Crew Cut) Leg 2: 2.50 Newmarket A 3yo Class 2 handicap with four last-time out winners taking each other on. Dawn’s Early Light comes here instead of Ripon but will not want to see anymore rain. He’s only had five starts and is very progressive. Ice Lord won for Clive Cox last time at Salisbury on his third career start, bags of improvement in him and could be the one to be on and its definitely a race to watch for future winners. Others to note are Roossey and Beardwood from powerful stables in this type of event. Selection: Ice Lord 8/1 William Hill (Roossey) Leg 3: 3.00 Ripon The consolation race for the big sprint later on the card and 20 runners line up for a tricky event. Of those drawn high I like Barkston Ash who often runs well here at Ripon. Dropped down to a decent mark now he could bounce back on a favourable surface. Singeur has been running well for Rebecca Bastiman and could figure while of those drawn low Fast Shot has to be respected for Tim Easterby off his lowest mark for two years. Selection: Barkston Ash 20/1 Coral (Fast Shot) Leg 4: 3.10 Newbury Soft ground at Newbury and that will suit Mujassam who won here in similar conditions last October. Won by 8 lengths last time out at Salisbury and now races off a stone higher. Richard Fahey’s Withernsea has been running well without winning and could be in the shake up while Beach Bar is another who could figure for William Knight, he was pulled out of a race at Goodwood and has won on soft ground before. Selection: Mujassam 9/2 Skybet (Beach Bar) Leg 5: 3.30 Ripon: Great St Wilfred Handicap The big sprint of the day and a terrific renewal of the Great St Wilfred. An interesting runner is Don’t Touch for Richard Fahey who has only has three starts in his life. This will be a culture shock for the youngster but has a future in big handicaps I’m sure. The ground has gone against former winner Pipers Note but it will suit Spinatrix who is a multiple course winner and is drawn ok in stall 18. Plenty of others are in with a squeak like Fast Track, Kimberella and old Mass Rally is looking dangerous off his current mark but needs things to drop just right these days. Selection: Spinatrix 10/1 Boylesports (Fast Track) Leg 6 3.45 Newbury The final leg is the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes and Here Comes When would be a popular winner after his gallant fourth in the Sussex Stakes last time. He has won twice before in this grade and goes well in soft ground. Breton Rock won this last year and lines up to defend his title but he has ground to make up on a couple of these including Cable Bay who won a Group 3 contest at Haydock in May and was a fair third to Arod last time out. Godolphin have two entered, Safety Check and Richard Pankhurst and both are capable on their best form. Selection: Here comes When 4/1 William Hill (Cable Bay)
