Scoop6 Races – Saturday July 18th No winners last week so the Tote Scoop6 starts off at £204,157 and is expected to reach around £400,000. For the six races this week is a nice mix of flat and national hunt with Newbury, Newmarket and Market Rasen providing the action. Leg 1: 1.40 Newmarket A Class 2 handicap at Newmarket to start with and just ten runners declared. The 3yo’s get a nice weight pull here and both Emirates Skycargo and Strong Steps are worth a second glance. The Godolphin runner was bitterly disappointing last time but has a chance on his second on the Rowley Mile before that. Strong Steps has been running well without winning and his second at Kempton looks fair form and should go close again. Selection: Strong Steps 5/1 Skybet (Emirates Skycargo) Leg 2: 2.00 Newbury A Fillies handicap over a mile and the Willie Haggas trained Sealife will be popular after she won on her debut at Windsor in good style. This is tougher but interesting that connections are choosing to run off this mark so early in her career. Top weight Rekdhat is respected after a decent effort in better company last time and Charlie Appleby’s Forest Maiden ran ok over C/D three weeks ago but probably has more to do here so needs to improve. Selection: Sealife 5/1 Betfair (Rekdhat) Leg 3: 2.20 Market Rasen Harry Fry’s Vivant Poeme started his handicap life in February off a mark of 112 and comes here a stone higher after a couple of placed efforts and a win in novice company. He is obviously improving but this is a much tougher. John Ferguson has his horse in great nick and top weight Sea Lord will be looking to get his season back on track after a fall in a novice chase last time. Presumably they think his mark is a bit high but this is not a great race and he could just about get away with another victory here. Selection: Sea Lord 5/1 Betfair (Vivant Poeme) Leg 4: 2.55 Market Rasen The Summer Hurdle always attracts a very competitive field and this is another tricky renewal. John Ferguson has two runners and both will be very strongly fancied after easy victories last time out. Commissioned is up 12lbs for his success and Buckwheat has been hit with a 13lb hike after his emphatic win at Aintree. Nicky Henderson also saddles two and I like his Hemmersly Lake who was a good 6th in the Coral Cup and filled a similar position at Punchestown in a competitive hurdle last time. Of the others Neil King’s Regulation is in good form and could nick a place. Selection: Hemmersly Lake 12/1 Paddy Power (Commissioned) Leg 5: 3.30 Market Rasen The Summer Plate is the highlight of a cracking card at Market Rasen and the first time we get to see Barry Geraghty in his new job for J P McManus. They team up with It’s A Gimme for Jonjo O’Neill and I’m sure the horse will be spot on for his defence of the race he won last year. 11lbs higher now so it wont be easy. The Skelton team saddle Pumped Up Kicks who has won twice since joining from the Gordon Elliott yard and Paul Nicholls who hasn’t had many runners this season runs Valco De Touzaine who won at Worcester last month. The one I like is Dell’Arca who got off the mark over fences at Uttoxeter last time and is a good traveller and will like this sharp track. Selection: Dell’Arca 10/1 William Hill (Pumped Up Kicks) Leg 6: 3.45 Newbury The 23-runner Weatherby’s Super Sprint is the final leg so lots of horses in with a shout. The favourite will be Excessable trained by Tim Easterby who has won this race three times in the past. He won easily on his debut and was second in a better race next time out. He gets in here with just 8st3lbs. Great Page is the mount of Richard Hughes for the Hannon yard who have won this race 8 times, they have five runners so this one has to be on the shortlist. Soapy Aitken won his first two starts and has ran well in Listed company since, this is easier and could be the one for trainer Clive Cox. Selection: Soapy Aitken 9/2 Bet365 (Great Page)
