Re: France Coupe de la Ligue 16.12 - 17.12 Bastia - Caen This fixture kind of leaps off the page at first, as Caen from the far North of the country have to travel all the way down to Corsica, after making the 1,400 km round trip to Lyon on Friday evening, a heavy defeat there has left them bottom Ligue 1 , five points from safety and surely for them, it should be all about the visit from , yes you guessed it..... Bastia on Saturday . I would argue that for Caen, that is their most important fixture of the season to date, drop points and they are already starting to be cast adrift, win and they are up and running. The hosts are also bottom three , but are within touching distance of the teams above them and buoyed by a win over Rennes at the weekend. Caen have left four players behind in Jean-Jacques Pierre , N'Golo Kanté , Fodé Koïta and Mathieu Duhamel , all of whom played against Lyon, the coach said that all four will train normally tomorrow and will be back in the squad for the weekend, they look close to full strength at the back, but Duhamel is top scorer and Kanté and Koïta have each appeared in 17 of 18 starts for Caen this season. However, before we rush off to back the hosts, they have only named four starters from the Rennes game in the squad, four are rested, two injured and one suspended, with Brandao already missing with his long term suspension and Ayite and Maboulou injured, they do not have a single player in the squad who has scored more than one league goal this season and will be forced to field at least two very inexperienced defenders and can name only two senior midfielders . They do have Djibril Cisse in the squad and he came off the bench to score twice against Auxerre in the last round, but that was a far, far stronger Bastia eleven and I wonder how much he has to offer right now, as opposed to as an impact player late in the game, having played just 55 minutes of Ligue 1 action . Bastia : Alphonse Areola, Jean-Louis Leca, Gilles Cioni, Florian Marange, Mathieu Peybernes, Romaric, Abdoulaye Keita, Alexander Djiku, Luka Kikabidze, Romain Achilli, Guillaume Gillet, Christophe Vincent, Juan Pablo Pino, Benjamin Mokulu, François Kamano, Djibril Cissé, Famoussa Koné, Hervin Ongenda. Caen: Rémy Vercoutre, Damien Perquis - Jean Calvé, Dennis Appiah, Damien Da Silva, Alaeddine Yahia, Felipe Saad, Alexandre Raineau, Emmanuel Imorou - Jordan Adéoti, Nicolas Seube, José Saez, Thomas Lemar, Julien Féret (cap) - Sloan Privat, Florian Raspentino, Hervé Bazile, Lenny Nangis. I would love to have seen a strong Bastia line up , but given the team news, if I have to lean one way it would probably have to be towards Caen, but on reflection, it is a match best left alone for now. However, given that Caen have done a lot of travelling and both teams are vunerable late, plus the competition stats, getting with goals late "in running" is definitely an option. Bastia have conceded 6 of 11 home goals in the last 30 minutes, Caen have conceded 50% of all away goals through the same period, but also scored a very nice 6 of 14 on the road in the last 15 minutes....... I can definitely see this producing late action.

Re: France Coupe de la Ligue 16.12 - 17.12 Lorient-St.Etienne A lot of regular players were not included in Lorient`s squad: Lecomte, Kone, Le Goff, Toure, Sunu, Abdullah, Mesloub, Mostefa, Jouffre, Barthelme, Lavigne, Quercia. St.Eteinne has the strongest squad for this fixture. All regular players are included. St.Etienne`s win is a good bet.
