International Rugby League is back for the next month with England heading down under to take on Australia, New Zealand and Samoa in the Four Nations. BBC and Premier Sports have the coverage over in the UK for what should contain some decent rugby. All bets in here :ok

Re: Four Nations Tournament preview: 2pts England to win Four Nations 8/1 Unibet I’m not usually a fan of England under Steve McNamara but even though he is a great player I can’t help but feel Kevin Sinfield’s retirement will boost England. He was always picked in the side even though he isn’t the best in his position and he never really convinced me as a half back at this level. His retirement opens the door for the supremely talented Gareth Widdop to play stand off. He was one of the best players in the NRL this season and when you throw him into a side containing Sam Tomkins, Josh Charnley and Ryan Hall with a forward pack like England have with James Graham, the Burgess brothers et al this could just be England’s time to shine against a second string Australia and a hit and miss New Zealand. Re: Four Nations Saturday previews: 4pts England (-12) to beat Samoa 10/11 Skybet England sometimes make heavy work of matches but in the World Cup last year we saw their pace and movement take apart the more physical lower ranked sides and I really believe we will see a better England side here so I’m happy to take them to cover 12pts here. England have been in Australia long enough now to get accustomed to conditions and they should hit the ground running. Samoa will give their all and they will be competitive for 50-60 minutes but then England’s pace can take over to cover a 12pt start. I think the quotes of the Kiwis getting 12pts are laughable really. They would give it a good go to cover that against a full strength Australia side let alone one potentially lacking a bit of power in their pack. I think the best defence will win the game but whoever wins it New Zealand will stay within 12pts. Re: Four Nations Saturday preview: 5pts New Zealand (-16) to beat Samoa 4/5 Ladbrokes Samoa gave it a good go last week and they will do the same this week but they were short in men to lead them around the park in Brisbane and had to rely on some pretty basic errors from England to give them field position. I don’t see them getting that from New Zealand. Kieran Foran and Shaun Johnson have the kicking game to keep the pressure on the Samoans and Isaac Luke will ensure they make plenty of yards from the ruck so I see New Zealand running out big winners here. Re: Four Nations Sunday preview: 5pts England (+12) to beat Australia 10/11 Ladbrokes England will never get a better chance to beat Australia and I wouldn’t be at all surprised were Steve McNamara’s men to win this. I certainly couldn’t put anyone off taking England on the match market but the much safer play is to take them with a very large 12pt start. Australia may well breakthrough and nab a couple of tries but this England pack will put the pressure on Australia and with the quality England have in behind England will also score points, enough to stay within 12 at the very least. Re: Four Nations Have backed a couple of Aussie tryscorers; Cronk at 3/1 with Lads and Cherry-Evans at 4/1 with PP. Have basically had a quick look at the game using the approach from my RU tryscorer system over in "Systems and Strategy", so this is uncharted territory to a large extent. That thread is, at least, currently profitable with 10/3 and 7/4 winners added this weekend! Edges of 17.8% and 30.5% respectively (comparing the prices taken to the best available buy price for their try minutes on the spreads) and tries to games played ratios that are reasonably encouraging. I'd keep stakes decidedly modest if following but they look like fair bets at worst to me.

Re: Four Nations Saturday preview: 4pts England (+6) to beat New Zealand 10/11 Ladbrokes The fact New Zealand don’t have to win this match to progress makes betting on this game a little tricky. As it happens I think England may well win the game but they keep finding ways to lose tight matches so I’m going to take them with the six point start rather than on the nose. England have been good in this tournament, they just have to be a touch more clinical and they’ll be fine here. Re: Four Nations Sunday preview: 4pts Samoa (+20) to beat Australia 10/11 Stan James Australia now know the margin of victory in this match is irrelevant and while I don’t think they will lose this match I’m not convinced they’ll go mental on Samoa. In fairness Samoa have been mighty competitive in this tournament so far and they should compete again but I believe they’ll come up short. Australia may well have an eye on next week when they’re a couple of scores ahead so although they will win it may allow Samoa to stay within 20. Re: Four Nations Final preview: 4pts New Zealand to beat Australia 5/4 Unibet If New Zealand aren’t beaten mentally by their defeats to Australia in the big matches then I think this final is theirs for the taking. They’ve played the better rugby all through the tournament and they have home advantage too which is another positive. Australia are much weaker than the sides who’ve controlled international rugby for the last generation and they’ve had a sickness in the camp to contend with too so the cash has to be with New Zealand here.
