I am off to Fota Island this weekend for the Irish Open and it is a much better field than what they had last year. Let's hope they make this cut this week as last year I went on the Saturday and Harrington, McIlroy and McDowell all missed the bloody cut. :eyes

Re: Irish Open > June 19th - 22nd Ill play 3 small e/w bets in this former winners OF this Shane Lowry SJ 33/1 1-6 & Simon Dyson 66/1 PP 1-6 are both playing pretty well at present and both know what's needed to win this and look value bets to me Lowry won it as a amature and im sure he would love to repeat it as a pro. I have noticed young English lad Tom Lewis 100/1 SJ 1-6 game is improving as the year goes on and he has potential and he may be an outsider with a squeak in this. Enjoy your trip Aidy.

Re: Irish Open > June 19th - 22nd I've taken two who looked overpriced to me. The first is Brandon Grace @ 91 (Bet365). He's long off the tee and a bit of a specialist on links courses. He hasn't been setting the world on fire this year, but the same was true last year as well and he still managed to force Mickelson into a playoff at the Scottish Open. His winning abilities cannot be questioned after his stellar breakout 2012 and I just feel he's too long for a links course in a field where only Rory and Graeme are standout winners. The other is young Brit Tommy Fleetwood @ 91 (Bet365). He broke through for a win last year and I feel his form has been really coming together of late with a 2nd in China the highlight.

Re: Irish Open > June 19th - 22nd Tournament preview: 1pt ew P.Casey to win Irish Open 22/1 Bet365 (1/4 1-5) I don’t usually like taking defending champions because usually the media attention on them is ridiculous but that isn’t the case with Casey this week such is the Irish contingent in the field and with Rory’s decision to play for Ireland in the Olympics dominating the news Casey has been able to prepare like any other week. Casey is clearly playing some good golf at the minute. He’s been in the mix in most events in the US in the last six weeks and hit a number of fairways and greens last week which bodes well for him. He’s fighting hard to get into the Ryder Cup side so I don’t expect a let up here and while he played all four rounds at Pinehurst last week he was never winning so won’t have used up masses of mental energy. Casey was in the top 15 last time the tournament was here so he knows the course and looks to have every chance. Re: Irish Open > June 19th - 22nd Top Continental European preview: 1pt ew M.Siem Top Continental European 12/1 BetVictor (1/4 1-4) I think German golf will be on the up for a little while after Martin Kaymer’s domination in the US Open last week. If we think back to when Gmac won the US Open Irish golf was on the up for a while so Kaymer’s success should filter down and I think that can get into Marcel Siem’s mind this week. Siem can sometimes be a little volatile but he’s striking the ball well and has come into a bit of form recently which should see him in good stead. Only one man hit more greens at Pinehurst last week than Siem and that’s top form so he’s a big price in this market at 12/1. Re: Irish Open > June 19th - 22nd Top Irishman preview: 1pt ew S.Lowry Top Irishman 8/1 Ladbrokes (1/4 1-3) Perhaps the best value in this field is the former Irish Open champion Shane Lowry. Lowry went well around a similar test in Wentworth a few weeks ago and hasn’t gone too badly since having qualified for the US Open and enjoyed the thrill that tournament brings. That experience is likely to inspire him for more so qualifying for more US majors has to be his aim now so he’ll need a few good weeks to do that. He’s hitting the ball nicely and has a good all round game and could sneak this market at 8/1.
