Jezza
Mr M you asked about this in another thread so rather than diversy that thread off down another tangent I thought I would make this one for the subject of bankrolling yourself online... So like a lot of players you've been playing a few months and getting into it, you are doing ok but dont know how to take it up a notch......You want to build a decent bankroll online and become a real player but are not rich enough just to bankroll yourself a huge amount from the off - you would rather do it through playing poker and learning how to make some decent money from it - building gradually so to speak. This is a good way to go about things no matter what you play, if you like low stakes tourneys or sit n gos or small cash games it doesnt matter - just follow a few steps. Firstly get down a good tight aggressive game. It can be boring at times but it will win you some money. Fold most of your cards and indeed dont play many pots at all. But the ones you do play play hard - dont be weak or try to get too cheeky with slowplaying. Bet your good hands hard and dont be afraid to fold a good hand if you are beaten. Reading some books/articles on poker and playing a lot are the only things that can help you here - its just something that takes time and noone should stop doing. Once you have got yourself to a decent level of play it is time to start building your roll. Critical here is the ability to get your moneys worth. I would really advise strongly you go around all the poker sites and avail yourself of all their sign up bonuses to add to your fledgling bankroll. Many many of these sites have montly bonuses as well. interpoker for example gives you 90 dollars every month! These companys are making a fortune at the moment and most are not shy in giving some back to the customers so take advantage of this and use it to build your roll. This site here http://www.bonuswhores.com/bonus-whoring-101.php has a good starting guide to doing this. Once you have cleared one sign up bonus move onto the next one, it will help your bankroll no end. When you are playing concentrate on your chosen style of game and keep a log of how much you win/lose each day you play in an excel spreadsheet. If you lose its not big deal, following this advice you should only be playing at stakes you can afford anyway and at least you have tried - if you have a losing day just try to learn from the experience (sometimes it will genuinely not be your fault you lost, othertimes it will - just think about that) and come back a better player for it. Keep your bankroll sacred and try not to withdraw from it as it grows. As it does grow then you can increase stakes but of course be careful when you do this you can afford the new level and DONT be quick to do it - also dont be afraid to drop back down to preserve your roll if you suffer some opening losses at the new stakes. You really dont have to take online poker this serious if you are just playing for fun, but for those who want to take it up a notch then it is a good way to build the bankroll.... mrmuzeman
Re: Getting a bankroll together online Thanks for that Jez :) Im going to try and get a fledgling roll together in a few months when I have more time in the summer to study and play. I'll definitely take advantage of all the bonuses.
