Betfair and bots

Recommended Posts

Im not a massive gambler in the grand scheme of things but where I tend to specialise in early prices in handicaps (generally at decent odds that shorten) I want to start making the most of Betfair now while I have the choice, rather than have my hand forced by the bookies who probably arent very keen on having a punter with my betting patterns. I understand Betfair and have had an account set up for a couple of years but I have mainly used it as a way of backing & laying AP bets as well as taking a chance on a few outsiders at much bigger prices that the bookies on the day of the races. Now I want to try and use it regularly as a way of getting on the night before when I think I will be able to get a decent price, or at least better than I would anticipate with the bookies. Where I work 8-5 it gives me very little scope to use Betfair effectively as Im not able to access the site during the day and very rarely on my lunch break which makes it difficult to monitor the market and check whether my bet has matched before the race starts. For example, on Tuesday at the Curragh I had two runners that I thought had a great chance. Greek Canyon and Peggy's Leg. GC was around 8/1 with the bookies but it looked like a price was available at around the 10-14/1 mark on Betfair the night before. PL didnt have a price until the morning but overnight it looked like somewhere between 15-20/1 would have been obtainable (opened at 11/1). In an effort to maximise profit, I kept my initial bet at the higher end of those estimates in the hope it would get matched. When I checked it in the morning before work, it appeared GC would be shorter so I lowered my bet to 11/1 but kept PL the same. I also put a 1/4 stake on at the bookies just in case when the prices came out. It turns out that GC won (just) but I only had £1 matched (lol) and PL came 2nd with nothing matched. My odds were in and around what was being matched by I just kept getting beaten to the punch so to speak where I wasnt able to monitor the markets. Anyway the point of my rambling on is to see if anyone does use a bot and if so how well does it work? If its one of the more complex ones that you pay for, do you think it helps your profitability? Does anyone know of a bot that would do the fairly simple task that I am after (ie putting me first in the ladder up to a certain predetermined stake without me monitoring it - a bit like Ebay I guess!)? If so, is it free or do I have to pay a fee/subscription charge? Secondly does anyone else have the same problem as me, and if so have they found a solution other than using a bot? Im guessing that's probably going to be a difficult one and probably evolves around making a tissue rather than being market led. If anyone has any thoughts or tips/ideas I would be grateful for the input.

Re: Betfair and bots I have the Betfair Bot Manager mate, it is a proper piece of kit, great tool. Haven't used it in a while but it is great for systems or whatever you need really.. It costs a bit more than £100 I think but if your serious about your betting well worth it,
