Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Sept 7-8 Some fun being had in the Southern Prem already with the prices about Weymouth and St Albans City under pressure. Initially Bet365 were 7/5 and BetVics 11/8 about both outfits, but those have been trimmed to a best of 10/11 about Weymouth and 4/5 about St Albans, both with Bet365.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Sept 7-8

Doubt about the Hinckley game going ahead as a past chairman has changed the locks on the ground.
That's a shame for all those locked and loaded at 7/5 and 11/8. To clarify, the former chairman - who was kicked out last year after 20-odd years at the club - is a trustee with his own family pension fund that is owed around 75k for rent arrears on a lease for the main stand that the pension now owns, having given the club a wodge of cash for a lease-back deal. It's not the whole of the ground that has been closed and he is suggesting that so long as the Southern League will accept alternative changing facilities (there are, apparently, another set of changing rooms at one of the ends) the game can go ahead. There is another bar and an alternative boardroom. It's an odd development especially as he is behind the winding up order that might see the club going out of business anyway in a week or two when it is scheduled to he heard. Clearly there is bad blood between the former chairman (kicked out after all those years by a board who held a vote of no confidence) and the board who did him in. Someone, somewhere along the line signed the main stand and its facilities away on a lease-back deal that has proved untenable. But what sort of individual after 20 years in non-league football links his family's pension fund to the success or not of a side that bounces between the Conference North and the Southern Prem?

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Sept 7-8 a fair few possibles for me in the northern and southern sections this week kings lynn should have enough to dispose of droylosden at 4-6,fylde 2-5 at home to matlock, barwell 11-8 at Whitby, worksop 6-5 at Stamford, hemel hempsted 1-2 home to st neots and the aforementioned Weymouth and st albans, plenty to look into, could be a few winners at first glance.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Sept 7-8 AFC Hornchurch at home to East Thurrock United (Evs Marathon) I've been on Hornchurch's case a couple of times this season but they were wrong calls and they do look stronger now, even though Martin Tuohy is still out - Stefan Payne netted twice in the win at Dulwich. Home form has been iffy but they face an ETU that has had to reshape itself after some departures since an excellent last season. I get the feeling that they haven't really got going - the football they play is good on the eye but they lack a cutting edge, something that was sorely missing last week against Hampton. They have Leon McKenzie on board, and he'll have a point to prove against Hornchurch, but I think the home side have the edge. Carshalton Athletic away at Cray Wanderers (8/5 Marathon) Both sides have been in stinking form, with only two wins between them. But if there are any crumbs of comfort in recent displays they have been produced by Carshalton, who are showing some signs of being able to take the game to their opponents and also of being slightly less blundering at the back (though that means they only let in two a match rather than four). Both sides have youngish squads prone to errors but Carshalton have shown in flashes that they can match more experienced sides, while the raw material that Cray have to work with seems distinctly less promising. Nantwich Town away at Stockbridge Park Steels (19/10 Marathon) A fair price on form, and SPS do have the dangerous Nathan Joynes up front, but I don't think winless Nantwich are too far away. Their three away defeats have all been narrow affairs and with Aaron Burns and Thomas Moore up front and the likes of Stephen Johnson feeding them, I think it's time for Nantwich to win. SPS were outplayed in recent draws against Blyth and Rushall, so it says something for their spirit that they could stay in the game, but man for man Nantwich look much stronger.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Sept 7-8 Nothing official from the Southern League, from Hinckley United or from Weymouth, who appear to be travelling as normal, so it looks like the game is going ahead. As I pointed out last night, it is only the main stand on which the locks have been changed, and possibly only on the main stand internal facilities, and while this does potentially create a problem - access, say, to emergency equipment - with a bit of willpower it is not an insurmountable problem. There is a posting on the Hinckley forum that says the seats will be available to fans. It's a biggish ground and fairly well-appointed so I don't anticipate further problems unless more spanners are thrown in the works. Hinckley's real battle will be in the courtroom. Weymouth are out to 21/20 with BetVics and that's the right side of Evs and takeable. Weymouth haven't totally ironed out last season's inconsistency, and they do have to make do without some important bodies, but they are more experienced than Hinckley, who've just lost their most experienced player, the stalwart Sam Shilton. The other smashed price was about St Albans City, now a best of 10/11 at Marathon. That's only borderline value, I think. St Albans are some way off where they should be with the quality available and they were second best to Hitchin midweek, though they are picking up points without playing well. Totton's young side have done brilliantly well to halt the slide to the bottom of the pile and come up with a couple of wins. They probably should have won against Truro. Having said that John Frendo will be fancying adding to his single goal tally against a youngish defence. 7/5 was a corking price but 10/11 is only a tick or so above where I would set the price.
