Re: England > Weekend > Skrill North & South Aug 17 There's enough prices out for an early feed, though I am still at half-stakes and breaking myself into the season gently. Boreham Wood away at Tonbridge Angels (15/8 WilliamHill) Neither side has featured in my antepost business, but I've a lurking suspicion that I've underestimated Wood. The squad has been building organically and there's a very solid infrastructure in place these days. They can certainly call in some talent when they need it: the latest to join on loan is Matty Whichelow from Watford, a player with plenty of admirers among lower league managers. There have been some solid new signings at Tonbridge, including Nathaniel Pinney, who did almost as much as Thurrock to keep Carshalton up last season. But the key for me is that their weakest point is at the back - they've been badly exposed at times in pre-season. Attack is where Wood are excellent, with the sort of pace and creativity that makes the 15/8 price a very sporting one in what may well be a high-scoring game. Staines Town at home to Dorchester Town (17/10 BetVics) Staines are on the drift and I half understand that with last season's keyman David Wheeler migrating to the upper classes, though I can't quite fathom why Dorchester are attracting punters. The bull point for them is that boss Phil Simpkin is a pretty shrewd operator, but with Keiffer Moore and much of the talent from the squad gone after a swingeing budget cut, this looks a season of survival and not much else (though to be fair their paper thin squad won't really be exposed early season). I think they'll achieve that as there are still some reliable Conny South operators in the squad, but Staines will be a tricky opener. Marcus Gayle has had a season to bed in his young squad and he's added some interesting if largely untried talent, but I expect much better this season. Pre-season has been inconsistent but with enough highlights to suggest they can get a win here at a decent, drifting price, though I wouldn't chase it much lower. Brackley Town away at Barrow (19/10 BetVics) I'm bearish about both sides' prospects this season, and I don't think either will feature at the business end of things. Barrow are a total rebuild job, and Dave Bayliss's hands are tied by a very restrictive budget. The squad isn't yet bedded in, and the sudden departure of summer signing Shelton Payne suggests that there is still work to do, as do pre-season defeats to Lancaster, AFC Fylde and Witton Albion (though they managed a win over Accrington). Brackley have been rather subdued this summer, but Charlie Griffin and Steve Towers have arrived to supplement a core, settled squad. They may not have quite capitalised on the momentum of last season's impressive finish but they are value at this mark. Havant & Waterlooville away at Ebbsfleet United (19/5 William Hill) Never mind the fact that I don't like taking teams who I've invested in antepost - this price is way too big. Ebbsfleet are favourites, certainly, but this has all the signs of a close opening-day encounter. I really like the look of the Havant squad who for me have been lining up the ducks for a promotion push - they've a solid back four and an experienced midfield, a ball-playing match winner (and penalty winner) in Christian Nanetti, and some pace in key areas. They're flexible enough to be able to move quickly to sign Dennis Oli as a replacement for Ollie Palmer. There are some signs that Ebbsfleet are hooking it up nicely - they've signed players who know the section and each other pretty well. This means less development time but it also means they have nothing too devillish in their make-up. They'll gather plenty of points but it all looks a touch ordinary. Havant are a sporting play out here.

Re: England > Weekend > Skrill North & South Aug 17 Have also tipped up Havant. Worcester v Altrincham Worcester could be in for a very tough season. There was a time they may not have been even starting the season due to a lack of money and after leaving their ground they now have to play their home games at Kidderminster. They look to be going into the new season with a pretty weak squad and they might well be in for a relegation battle. Altrincham on the other-hand will be hoping they will be involved at the other end of the table and I certainly think they will reach the play-offs with the squad they have. I am surprised Bet 365 and BetVictor have offered even money on an away win as I would personally have it around the 8/11 that Coral have gone.

Re: England > Weekend > Skrill North & South Aug 17

Farnborough v Chelmsford has been called off as Farnborough as the conference still aren't happy with them. Sent from my GT-I8190N using PL Forum
...and it has given PaddyPower precisely what they entered into this charade to gain: yet more publicity. They have issued a statement saying that the Conference fun police have been out in force, but I wouldn't have fancied being in the Conference legal department this week and it must have been so tempting to ensure a deadline was missed.

Re: England > Weekend > Skrill North & South Aug 17 just found them tonight on betway, some excellent prices on the northern league sides, particularly west auckland who were Fa vase finalists a year ago and beat current fa vase holders spennymoor 3-1 on tuesday night they are priced at 3/4 to beat northern league second division side tow law when id say they are a 1/3 shot minimum! Shildon a good price at 13/10 away to Garforth (who i know nothing about, other than they have had a poor start in north east counties) and also Northallerton town priced at 11/13 at home to Whitehaven who got beat 10-0 on wednesday night by north shields who are similarly placed top half side in NL div 2 to north shields.

A lot of work for not much gain I would have thought.

Re: England > Weekend > Skrill North & South Aug 17 also add to that newcastle benfield 7/2 away at penrith, both evenly matched mid table NL div 1 teams, Benfield have the experience of steven bowey and paul brayson (both ex gateshead) and should shade it, 7/2 is too big, they will only take 20quid on that one though!

Re: England > Weekend > Skrill North & South Aug 17 Thats Betway jokers who offer bonuses (happened twice) and then dont tip up but keep ringing you. OFf to Staly tomoz. Seen them pre-season but the squad has changed so much its hard to form an opinion. At the end of last season they were like Barcelona!! Harvey signed six new boys last week.

Re: England > Weekend > Skrill North & South Aug 17 Excellent way to kick off the lower Skrills - Havant did fine at Ebbsfleet but couldn't get a winner, so they were a failure but Staines, Brackley and Boreham Wood came home at chunky enough numbers to put a very decent gloss on the day. Great call by addpea on Alty, and superb shouts by G-Unit on the FA Cup Extra Prelims - West Auckland (5-0 winners) and Shildon (4-1 winners).
