Re: England > Antepost > Ryman Prem 2013/2014 May as well stick the Thurrock stuff in here now. Here is a statement from the league: The Ryman League wish to put the record straight in relation to the matter in issue with Thurrock FC. On 11 July Thurrock FC served the Ryman League and The FA with a Notice of Arbitration pursuant to FA Rule K in relation to the decision of the League to deduct three points from the club’s points total for the 2012-2013 season. Thurrock FC has made an interim application for the decision to be set aside while the process is followed. The Ryman League does not agree to this proposal and will oppose the interim application. Contrary to media reports, the Ryman League has not received any notification of Thurrock FC applying for an injunction and have had it confirmed by club representatives that no such injunction has been issued or applied for. To clarify, the Arbitration process under FA Rule K is final and binding on all parties with no recourse to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. No further comment will be made until the outcome of the arbitration proceedings is known.

Re: England > Antepost > Ryman Prem 2013/2014 And here is Thurrock's statement where it says we won't find out anymore until the result of the appeal is announced, we won't even know when that will be. Everyone connected with Thurrock FC are bitterly disappointed at the decision of the FA not to uphold our appeal against the Ryman League decision to deduct three points from last seasons total and as such confirm our relegation. However, we felt it appropriate to fully update our supporters of the current position and the procedures that will follow. We believe that we should fight this injustice as much and as strongly as we can but it has to be understood that in order to do that we have to follow specific processes and our representatives Football Factors are dealing with this. We can confirm that we have issued a Notice of Arbitration in accordance with FA Rule K to the FA and the Ryman League. Arbitration is a totally independent process and the FA or the League do not have any influence over it. In due course we will attend at an Arbitration Hearing and will argue our case before a totally independent panel. Arbitration Proceedings in football are rare and disputes can only be heard on the basis of specific points as opposed to having a re-hearing of the appeal or disciplinary hearing. This is a different process to taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne and it is the correct route to take in accordance with the FA Rules. The outcome of an Arbitration Hearing is final and binding on all parties. As part of that process we have applied to have the decision to deduct three points from our total set aside. This will be considered in due course by the Arbitration panel before the main hearing. This means that the issuing of next season's fixtures is a matter for the League to decide upon pending the outcome of the arbitration proceedings and we have no control over that. We are hopeful that this matter will be dealt with before the start of the new season but can assure all our supporters that we are fighting this strongly and hope that the panel see merit in our representations and return the points to us to allow us to continue playing at Ryman Premier League level next season. Arbitration Proceedings are confidential and so the Club will not be making any further comment about this matter until the process has been completed.

Re: England > Antepost > Ryman Prem 2013/2014

Sadly for the rest of us Ships bets have meant the prices have been cut already
Apologies for that. But I will say I was nowhere near maxing out - I had kept stakes reserved partly because I didn't want to blow my pot on the first show but also because a cut of prices now signals to other compilers where they should go, ruining any chance of getting higher. I'm annoyed I didn't go higher now.

Re: England > Antepost > Ryman Prem 2013/2014 The Ryman Prem is the hardest of the Step 3 sections to make sense of this season for me, though the books out so far call it fairly cleanly: Lowestoft Town will win it from Maidstone United and Wealdstone. Personally, I’ve significant doubts about last season’s nearly men Wealdstone and Lowestoft Town. Both have decent sides but neither looks any stronger than last season, and Lowestoft particularly look as unappealing a betting prospect as they have since arriving in the Ryman Prem, with Joe Francis departing and the squad – and maybe the management team - in need of a refresh. It’s a risky statement to make, but they could finish closer to the relegation places than the play-offs this season. From my point of view, there are no reliable picks although I can see some surprises and I’ve gone for some bigger prices to play EW. I’ve gone for a particularly surprising winner in Leiston, and a best of 16s with Bet365 is a decent EW shout (I didn’t get to chew on Betway’s initial 33s). They aren’t everyone’s idea of an antepost challenger but they’ve an ambitious manager in Danny Laws and a crop of signings that suggests a change of policy. They’ve picked up Adam Tann and Craig Parker from Bury and Joe Francis and Blake Saker from Lowestoft, and they can rely on the core squad that adjusted to life well at this level after some early struggles last season. They’ll play good football on the front foot and will surprise a lot of teams. Dulwich Hamlet’s youthful brand of attacking football has finally (and pleasingly) reaped its rewards with promotion and I rate their chances significantly higher than the bookies. The conveyor belt of young talent has been added to with some experienced Ryman bodies, and not just the sort of characters who can stand up and be counted – Paul Vines and Dean Lodge are capable of a match-winning flourish. A caveat 12 months ago might have been their physical strength – not now, as they look capable of outplaying the opposition and battling when they have to. The monster initial offerings have gone but 18s is not too shabby EW (Bet365). I’ve picked Kingstonian in third place (available at 20s EW with Bet365). There’s an all-or-nothing feel to this season: Alan Dowson may not countenance another failure. But the signings are decent and I think they’ll go well. Last season they underperformed, although they generally created a stack of chances that they didn’t convert; Bobby Traynor is back in the fold and that should help alleviate that problem. A couple of their current trialists look very useful indeed and if they can find a blend across midfield that balances attack and defence they could be very tricky customers. Maidstone United arrive with momentum, good backing, and a pitch that no one will like playing on. They’ve a very decent squad and with Frannie Collin leading the line they should notch healthily, and they’ve bagged impressive pre-season wins against Tonbridge and Ebbsfleet. On the playing side I wonder if they’ve the pace to match Dulwich, the quality to match Leiston and the devilish attacking play to match Kingstonian. The price – a best of 8s – also puts me off when others similarly matched are much bigger. There are enough questions for me to swerve them for now when there are more attractive propositions, though they are potential challengers (particularly if they can utilise their pitch at Conference level). The final spot for me is between Canvey Island and Wealdstone, and I’ll take Danny Heale’s Canvey to get it. They added well to a talented squad with Ty Smith coming in from Met Police – the kind of reliable, do-it-all midfielder they lacked last season. Spencer Bellotti and Simon Thomas will also beef up the attack. Rob Bartley is another player who offers the kind of leadership on the field that was missing last year. That’s my top 5: Leiston, Dulwich Hamlet, Kingstonian, Maidstone United and Canvey Island, with EW plays on Leiston, Hamlet and Kingstonian.

Re: England > Antepost > Ryman Prem 2013/2014 Lowestoft head this market again, but they have had plenty of chances to get out of this league and they have only hit the play-offs each time. Indeed I don’t think they have ever really looked like winning the league. If I was in charge I would have sacked the manager long ago as he is clearly struggling to get them promoted as they continually fall short. They look favourites to take on. Maidstone are just behind them in betting, but I am not sure why. Yes they have the biggest support in the league, but it is worth bearing in mind that they can’t actually get promoted given they have a 3G pitch which the Conference don’t allow in their league. Now that won’t necessary stop them from winning the league but they look to be priced up short enough, especially when you compare them to the team who beat them to the Ryman Division One South title, Dulwich Hamlet. Dulwich are my local team to where I live and I often go to watch them. Gavin Rose has built a very good side, who like to play passing football which is rare at this level. They are great to watch and for me won the league fair and square from Maidstone. Maidstone are a best price of 8/1 whereas Dulwich are 20/1 with Coral. I would have Dulwich shorter than Maidstone if I was pricing the league up and Dulwich so 20/1 looks a decent bet. Rose has added to the squad well over the summer and with the fans 12th Man Fund providing plenty of extra money for the players budget, they have the potential to strengthen during the season if needed. In a wide open league they look over priced.

Thurrock confirmed as being relegated. Have to say I agree with the decision myself, may seem harsh and I am not saying that the rules don't need looking at, but agreed with the letter in the paper on Sunday. As he pointed out if the loss of 3 points made no difference to their league position they wouldn't even have appealed. Sent from my GT-I8190N using PL Forum

Until the evidence is made public - what form was the player's name given in the ban? What do the respective signatures look like? - I don't think it's possible to say how hard done by they were, and I don't think the letter in the NLP added anything. In the light of the AFC Wimbledon case - a much more bare-faced, stark-stirring palpable balls up by the club than here - it sends out the kind of message that the FA want: Big Club 1, Little Club 0. On the plus side, I won't need to visit the dog-end of Aveley for any Ryman Prem games this season.

Re: England > Antepost > Ryman Prem 2013/2014 Thurrock's chairman has said he has spent £12k on all the appeals. I have to say that money could have been better spent by getting some decent players in and getting promoted. In a funny way if they launch a title bid next season they may well enjoy things more than being in the lower reaches of the Ryman Premier again.
