Flat Racing 12th April (Folkestone, Wolverhampton and Gowran)

Recommended Posts

8.25 Wolverhampton Really bad day for flat fans but this isnt a bad race for the evening AW card under the floodlights. Red Somerset is clearly in good heart with good efforts in sellers and claimers recently but wasnt winning out of turn in those and likely to find this much tougher back in handicap. Whitby Jet is worth a note, proved relatively reliable last year but didnt win much off a race at Brighton when last winning off a mark of 66 runs off 74 today and that looks harsh enough. Satwa Laird is potentially on a good mark and from a yard going well but never convinced he stayed this trip and porbably worth opposing. Honey Of A Kitten had threatened to win a rce for his yard before doing so earlier in the year over slightly further around here. Failed to back it up next time out off same mark, showed nothing over hurdles recently and now 6lb higher and clearly has something to prove again. Odd Ball has gone from strength to strength recently and is becoming hard to weigh up, looked even better over this extended mile trip over CD last time out. Winning streak start in 2 class 7 handicaps and last time out in class 6 so this is clearly a step up and is competitive to boot but he clearly has more to give but how much its hard to say and not one to take at a short price after a 7lb rise in the handicap. At the prices Angelic Upstart offers a little bit of value despite having to carry topweight. Balding yard going well including runners coming back from breaks so should be fit enough to do himself justice. Still lightly raced with just the 8 starts, raced in some hot handicaps at start of last season on turf didnt show true colours. Has a much better record on the AW with 4 runs and 2 wins and 2 3rds so clearly a return to this surface another positive and because of those disappointing efforts on turf has dropped to just 1lb above last winning mark. 1pt e/w Angelic Upstart 10/1 bet365

Re: Flat Racing 12th April (Folkestone, Wolverhampton and Gowran) F.Dettori makes the trip for just the one ride of the day at Folkestone, he's yet to get on the score sheet for the season, his one sole ride could get a race from M.Johnston's sole runner of the day and new comer in VAN ELLIS. Folkestone 3:55 Van Ellis to give Dettori a fright. If Van Ellis does not win today, its only a matter of time, he could be worth sticking with. http://horses.sportinglife.com/Future_Engagements/0,12646,h^585134,00.html

Re: Flat Racing 12th April (Folkestone, Wolverhampton and Gowran) 5.55 wolv: nice little sprint race this over the 6f and this all hinges on the well being of TRENDING for me .he has been running really well of late and has been showing plenty of speed in his races(80+) .has stronger form than maria montez who is shorter priced and the services of raul de silva with his 5lb claim and draw 4 makes this horse look a very nice e.w bet at 8/1 with lads so i'll be having some of that trending 5.55 wolv 2pts e.w 8/1 lads

Re: Flat Racing 12th April (Folkestone, Wolverhampton and Gowran) 535f,HABOOD,comes from the clive brittain stable who seem to be in alright fettle, ran a decent enough race last time out on its first run on the turf pulling a bit too hard early on before settling nicely and staying on nicely at the death, two furlong step up in trip today should suit and imo the best apprentice in the race is on top,i took 9/2 last night but the r4 will kick in,still available @ 7/2 bog which still looks big to me

THe drop in trip will sure suit after a 2m race LTO for 5th of 11 by 6 lengths. Tracked leading pair, went 2nd over 4f out, going strongly over 3f out, lost place over 2f out, faded. He looked good and if the trip then was the same as today it would have been a different official rating for him today.

Re: Flat Racing 12th April (Folkestone, Wolverhampton and Gowran) 5.55 Wolverhampton - 3pts win Trending @ 11/2 (VC) Jeremy Gask's horse has improved the last twice and looks off a very fair mark now with Raul Da Silva taking off a valuable 5lbs to give this one every chance over a c&d he's proven over. This is a weak race but he's caught the eye the last twice with his runs coming from behind. Two starts ago he stayed on well from right out the back to finish just behind the reopposing Bitter Lemon in a race here and last time over 7f Trending travelled well before not finding a huge amount up the straight (having been short of room). A good pace over 6f probably suits him better and hopefully he can get it here. The jockey will need to time it right because he left it late two starts back. However, this is a weak race, he's well drawn, and blinkers replace cheekpieces to hopefully get a bit more out of him. Should run his race so long as the headgear is not detrimental.

You've spent too much time around it's owners on Twitter who are always optimistic :lol

Re: Flat Racing 12th April (Folkestone, Wolverhampton and Gowran) 6.25 Wolverhampton - 3pts win Corvette @ 4/1 (VC) I take on the short-priced favourite here with a horse in form with Jack Duern taking off 7lbs. I'm taking a chance that the favourite did not beat a lot last time out when winning well on reappearance for a new yard and my selection's 4lb rise for a 1l success over c&d last time is cancelled out by the claim of the young rider. He's also better off with Holden Eagle for a narrow defeat two starts ago and another good run looks on the cards.

Re: Flat Racing 12th April (Folkestone, Wolverhampton and Gowran) 8.25 Wolverhampton - 2pts win Legal Legacy @ 12/1 (Boyles) I couldn't be 100% sure that the mile around here is 100% ideal for this horse but he's overpriced here in a race where the favourite steps up in class and a couple of other fancied runners are returning from a break. My selection may well have been flattered last time when not disgraced in a listed race at Doncaster but it was still an encouragement and his form on the all-weather prior to that suggests he can go well again tonight. He was only beaten narrowly here over 7f in February before not getting much luck during the race at Lingfield over a mile when again finishing runner-up next time out. At Kempton subsequently he was drawn wide and was hampered but was still well held in the end. However, the front two were well-handicapped it seems so it probably wasn't as bad a run as made out. He's got form around here, he's not terribly drawn in 7 and the yard's horses aren't running without credit.

Placed second three times and third twice. Made her debut for trainer Pam Ford last month but could only finish 9th of 10 by 8 1/4 lengths. Definitely in need of the runs after being off the track since 2009. A similiar effort can keep her at least competitive to the end here. Last time out she led the way until ridden and headed over 1f out and was eased inside the final furlong. Today is a 5f contest and it will suit her better than the 6f last time out. A couple of things to like about the selection starting with the booking of jockey Tom Queally. Queally for trainer RObert Cowell have just 9 rides the last 5 seasons but had 2 winners for a +43.00pts profit at 1.00pt level stakes. They teamed up for 2 wins from 5 last year for +47.00LSP. The selection is bred by the owner Lord Crawshaw using Diktat and the mare Frascati. Frascati was owned/bred by Lord Crawshaw and was a 7-time winner at 5f. Dikanta raced at 6f LTO and is improving. Two runs ago he was slowly into stride and hampered start, headway over 3f out, ridden halfway, weakened over 1f out. Tha was his first run since 2010 so he looked in good shape. Looked better LTO when leading the way until headed well over 1f out, weakened final furlong. Will be helped by the draw in stall 2 today given that he likes to go quick early.
