Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Feb 25 Once again, I'm time-lite but there are a number of plays that appeal... Canvey Island away at Tooting & Mitcham United (11/10 Corals) Tooting's form has undoubtedly improved under Kenny Brown, and they bagged a fine point at Lowestoft. But it was with a fair degree of luck and they still look to me several players short of a coherent side. Canvey have been much better under Glen Alzapiedi and they look too strong for the home side at this price. Bradford Park Avenue away at Kendal Town (11/8 widespread) With Alex Taylor still sidelined, Kendal are looking a little vulnerable, whereas BPA are coming into this having found a rich vein of form - four wins on the bounce. The price is big about a side that defends better and scores more clinically, although there is a question mark over how creative they can be on a pitch that cuts up. East Thurrock United away at Lewes (6/4 widespread) An interesting drift in the ETU price, though I can't fathom it. It's a transitional Lewes side at the moment, one that hasn't won this year and one that was poor at ETU in the league cup earlier this week. ETU's form has been good home and away, and the price is a sporting one. Margate at home to Bury Town (7/4 Bet365, Ladbrokes, Betfred) Four straight away defeats means Margate are in a poor nick, but they are generally competitive at home and they were lively enough at Kingstonian (a 2-1 loss) on Monday to suggest that they are not far off a result or two. Bury are a very decent side, but do sometimes wobble away from home, where their progressive game can be subject to exploitation - they are big conceders on the road.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Feb 25 Rumour doing rounds on Twitter from @J7Austin, supposedly the commercial manager of Weymouth, that the terras are fielding a weakened team against stourbridge tomorrow. Youth team members in squad and manager on bench. I don't know much about this league but, if true, and Stourbridge are in reasonable nick anyway, worth a punt?

Interesting, BB. There's a bit of a row going on - and when is there not at Weymouth? - between chairman George Rolls and a supporters group, who have held back a fundraising cheque for £1,500 because of the on-going troubles at board level. I think Rolls has suggested this act from the group might mean that some non-contract players (five in all, I believe) won't be available to play tomorrow. Sounds like a bluff to me, but you never know with Weymouth. They have been doing okay at home, but Stourbridge don't seem to be feeling any after-effects of losing Ryan Rowe.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Feb 25

I've just been looking on their forum and nothing on there. From what I can make out they have made they payment the latest payment but its the next one they aren't going to make. Sent from my HTC Desire S using PL Forum
From the Dorset Echo, Friday am: 'Meanwhile, the Weymouth FC Supporters Association and fundraising initiative Wessex Fantasy Football have both stopped cheques to the club in protest of the ongoing controversies. Rolls has intimated that their actions could force manager Brendon King to be without several non-contract players for tomorrow’s home clash against Stourbridge (3pm). He added: “The money raised by the WFF is funds the club has budgeted for and I think Ian White and his committee need to hang their heads in shame for cancelling the latest instalment. “I am also sure those fans that have put their hard-earned money into the initiative will let them know their fervour tomorrow when we have to field a weakened side because of it.” ' As I say, this sounds like a simple case of grandstanding from Rolls. I think the Jamie Austin tweets are real - well, they come from a real person who is connected closely to the goings-on at Weymouth, though it's hard to know how reliable they are.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Feb 25 Based on Stourbridge's form since the departure of Ryan Rowe, a 5-0 home win against Bashley and coming from behind to win 2-1 at in form Oxford City in midweek, this could be well worth an interest. My feeling is that they have turned the corner after a tricky spell and after watching the reverse fixture against Weymouth recently, Stourbridge are more than capable of a result. It was the Weymouth match that manager Gary Hackett counted eight clear cut opportunities missed by Stourbridge.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Feb 25 Decent points, PB. I think you're right to say Stourbridge have turned a corner after a poor run. Weymouth are an enigmatic outfit though, and they don't often get turned over at home, even when the performance is off-key. It would be strange if - after months of the kind of stuff that has been going on at Weymouth - the last week of falling outs impacted on the team's form. Brendan King has done a wonderful job, managing to attract players and turning the squad into something pretty competitive, but even so 6/4 about Stourbridge seems a bit high.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Feb 25 From the Dorset Echo this morning: Due to hostility between the club and the Wessex Fantasy Football initiative, there have been fears that King might be without the services of several non-contract players today. The problem arose on Thursday when the WFF chose to cancel their cheque for the four-week period from March 3 to March 24 inclusive due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of George Rolls. King said: “Some of the non-contract lads have to travel a long way so I am still waiting to hear but hopefully they will all be there.”

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Feb 25

See thats the thing the payments are in place for this month so I dont see why they shouldnt play today given you dont know what will happen between now and March 3rd.
Indeed, but it all comes down to how much of a fuss Rolls wants to kick up. At the moment he's treating it like the worst news he's ever heard and it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that he'll use it as a chance to hurt the team and blame someone else. It's quite hard to read anything like a coherent policy into this actions.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern and Ryman Prem Feb 25

There is still the rumour he is sniffing around Kettering as well' date=' isn't there?[/quote'] Its more than a rumour because he is. Problem is he needs to get rid of Weymouth first before he can take over at Kettering. Its just a bit of a mess really for both clubs. From reading the Weymouth forum last night it seems there is a chance he might just walk away without selling the club so he can take over at Kettering.
