  1. Re: BBOTD - Monday 10th June 19.30 Windsor Cactus Valley - 1PT Win 4/1 StanJames Come On Blue Chip is the favourite for this race after his C&D success last month, which he followed up with a close 2nd again over C&D 21 days later. Richard Hughes admitted that he got it wrong that day, and he has to have a massive chance but he has been raised 3lb for that 2nd and I think Cactus Valley could get the better of him. Cactus Valley has run two creditable efforts so far this year, finishing 4th twice, firstly at Newbury and most recently at Newmarket last month. The race at Newmarket was amongst Class 3 company over todays trip where he finished 4th behind Ehtedaam, back in 3rd that day was Nabucco who was just beaten a length behind Niceofyoutotellme at Newmarket last Saturday in a better race than todays. Based on that form, and the handicapper has dropped him 1lb since that Newmarket 4th, I think Cactus Valley has every chance of winnings this and should be there or thereabouts.

  2. Re: Trading I'm not an expert on the subject by any means and only done a little bit of backing and laying, but if you would be doing it while watching ATR i've heard that it can be a dangerous game as there is a slight delay on there pictures.

  3. Re: British Champion Series Racemakers Will do lads, cheers. :ok Must admit, being Ascot and quite a big social occasion, some alcohol fulled toffs could be one of the biggest annoyances of the day I sense! When I was speaking with the lady from The British Champions Series on the phone, she did mention that it was based on the idea that the Olympics had last year with the volunteers, and I do hope if it's being done it's being done properly, as at all these meetings there are a lot of 'clueless' punters who don't know the difference between a win and a place, and with someone on hand to ask it should improve there experience of racing and hopefully make them want to return. Although at the prices for Royal Ascot I don't blame 'em for not going again, but that's a different subject!

  4. Re: BBOTD Sunday 9th June 17.00 Perth Knocklayde Vic - 1PT Win 5/1 Coral Knocklayde Vic made a promising return to racing when finishing 6th of 24 in a handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse back in April over 3m, last time out at Punchestown over 3m again, the horse ran another creditable race, finishing 6th of 22, however the horse never looked like causing any trouble to the eventual placed horses and looked a tired horse as they approached the finish. Today the horse drop back in trip to 2m 4f which should suit the horse and also the quick ground should be perfect conditions.

  5. Apparently there's a jacket that we get to wear, but as its Royal Ascot I have to go suited and booted and have to wear a sash to indicate who we are! Looking forward to it - I believe that after the 4th race your free to do as you wish, so should hopefully get to take in a couple of races as well. Being on the betting side of things though I am expecting questions such as ' What will my return be if I have £5 each way on the favourite? ' !!

  6. Re: BBOTD > Friday 7th June 19.10 Leopardstown Pale Mimosa - 1PT Win 11/8 Coral Pale Mimosa has won twice from only 4 starts, including a listed race at York last August. That race at York was run over 1m 4f but she finished like she would appreciate a step up in trip, she went up to 1m 6f last time out in The Group 2 Qatar Prix Chaudenay at Longchamp, but she didn't seem to appreciate the ground and she didn't run to her true ability, finishing unplaced. She steps back to listed company here and I think she'll take all the beating for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen. Missunited may be the biggest danger to these, but likely to need plenty of improvement to beat Pale Mimosa.

  7. Re: BBOTD > Thursday 6th June 17.10 Ffos Las Ballybough Gorta - 1PT Win 11/2 StanJames Peter Bowen is double handed in this race with Kanturk and my selection Ballybough Gorta. The current market seems to suggest that Kanturk is the more likely winner, however I think Ballybough Gorta will be tough to beat with todays conditions. The horse was gained a lot of experience last season, racing 12 times, with the first 4 being over the hurdles before the horse was sent chasing. The horse won 5 times over the jumps over distances ranging from 2m 1f upto todays trip of 3m on his latest victory. He was last seen in a decent Class 3 race at Haydock over 3m 4f where he weakened back into 9th position, however he drops back in trip and class here today, and also returns to the smaller obstacles. Kanturk is likely to be the biggest danger, however he hasn't shown enough to persuade me to think that he will lose his maiden tag in this race today, and likely to be finishing in a place position again.

  8. Re: McCririck Not a fan of him either, £2000 a day as well for ATR? I'd love the opportunity to work in a similar role and would do it for £20 if I could afford too, one of the best things to happen in racing getting him off Channel 4 in my opinion! As mowgli mentioned above, he used to love a bit of the tic tac in the 'betting jungle', fair enough he's old school and it's how he probably remembers it, but pretty sure half the racegoers nowadays would think it's some old fella whos had one too many drinks the way he would wave his hands about.

  9. Re: Mr Dettori I'd still happily have Fallon riding anything I back, I think his riding over the past year or two has been fantastic and IMO he's the 'McCoy of flat racing' when it comes to getting a horse home, even if the horse is being pushed a mile from the finish with Fallon on board, it would be dangerous to write the horse off.

  10. Re: Best bet of the day 5th June Southwell 15.00 Loma Mor - 1PT Win 3/1 888Sport Loma Mor comes into this race on the back of a decent 3rd at Yarmouth over todays trip of 6F last time out. She was potentially beaten by two horses likely to go onto better things that day, the runner up in that race was Vigor who has an entry in the DBS Premier Yearling Stakes at York in August, and the winner, Lucky Kristale, won comfortably and is now 2 from 2. Loma Mor made her racecourse debut prior to that race at Southwell on the all weather surface over 5F but kept on well enough to think she should have no worries with the 6F here today. The ground may of also been too quick for Loma Mor at Yarmouth, and I think she can record another victory today returning to Southwell.

  11. Re: ATR losing Irish Racing to RUK? I don't mind the Irish stuff too much, granted it's not something I like to get too heavily involved in unless it's one of the bigger meetings, but I still like to follow some of the trainers over there (O'Brien / Weld / Oxx / Mullins ) and also quite keen to follow some of the leading jockeys, especially Ruby Walsh now he's going to be doing a lot more riding over there. This is coming from someone who doesn't subscribe to RUK though so perhaps i'm being slightly bias towards favoring ATR! I do feel that if they were to lose the Irish racing, and as previously mentioned further up, Doncaster which probably won't be too far behind, they really won't be left with too many 'big' meetings except The Winter Derby at Lingfield and The Welsh National at Chepstow, so this could be a big blow for them.

  12. I've seen rumours about that ATR could be set to lose Irish Racing to Racing UK and just wondered what people's thoughts were on this? I know ATR comes in for quite a bit of stick amongst the racing public due to split screen racing and other factors, but I personally enjoy ATR and will be sad to see the Irish racing switch channels if the rumours are true, also can see RUK going further up in price if that's the case.

  13. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread I think Poitin is a massive each way price in the next at Lingfield, wasn't beaten too far by Horsted Keynes last November on the all weather surface at Kempton and then was stepped right up in class to The Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket which was won by Talent who won The Oaks on Friday.

  15. Re: BBOTD > Tuesday 4th June 19.25 Yarmouth Pixilated (Win 10/11 Bet365) Pixilated had his only win over this C&D just under a year ago, following that race he was entered in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot where he was well beaten, finishing 21st of 23, and didn't show much in his following races. He made his return to the track in May after 4 months off, trying 6F for the first time at Yarmouth, the horse eventually finished 3rd despite leading close home, indicating that perhaps 5F was his optimum trip. He returned to that distance last time out at Goodwood, finishing 2nd to Shirley's Pride. I think with his return to the 5F at Yarmouth, he should have the pace to keep his head in front of his rivals today. His main danger looks to be Balatina, who was also beaten on his turf debut by Shirley's Pride finishing 5th, and will need to show similar form to that produced on the all weather to be a danger to the selection.
